Oklahoma SENATE RACE- UPDATE!! -TIE GAME-
doverspa.com ^ | 9/24/04 | Doverspa.com

Posted on 09/24/2004 8:47:30 PM PDT by DixieOklahoma

(SUSA) Bush 64
Kerry 33

Coburn 45
Carson 45
Bilyeu 6

Several interesting numbers in the internals. First, the African-American vote which seems to be going for the President in KWTV polls was firmly behind the Massachusetts sentaor. Nevertheless, the 61%-28% tilt towards Kerry is still a significant improvement for the Presdient amongst African-Americans.

Second, pro-choice Brad Carson is picking up 32% of the pro-life vote while Coburn takes 61%. In a race this close, the Coburn campaign needs to publicize the fact that there is a clear choice based on abortion in this race. As an avid follower of this race, I only realized that Carson describes himself as pro-choice yesterday. His campaign is doing a good job of hiding the fact. You can find other positions of Carson that his campaign is hiding here.

Carson is trying to get away with lieing to people, alot of people think he is pro life! he is staunchly in favor of abortion.

I cannot stress how important your support for Coburn at this point in time is. CARSON signs outnumber Coburn!

Coburn is low, LOW on funds and carson has raised a record amount. BUT the good news is Cheney was in town today and raised thousands of dollars for Coburn, and I am FINALLY seeing advertisments from Coburn.

*If you want to contribute to Coburn's senate campaign go to http://www.coburnforsenate.com/volunteer.shtml

I had feared that after ten years of having two Republican senators, OK was eager to return to its traditional Democrat moorings. I am afraid this may yet happen -- that Carson will win because he is the more aggressive candidate. Coburn has the appropriate attitude for the office --- elect me or defeat me -- but that stance does not usually win. OK already has a "Governor Brad," and now they may want a "Senator Brad" too. Are the coaches coming out for Carson? If so, that could explain his rise in fortunes because OK people will do whatever those coaches say.

I'm certain that he will. Never count Coburn out. He is a great campaigner.

Brad Carson is picking up 32% of the pro-life vote while Coburn takes 61%

Obviously, this 32% must be the "Oh, I'm pro-life, BUT who am I to tell a woman...." type.

I'm still very, very concerned about this race. I've been a big proponent of pouring money into SD to help Thune, but I've now switched priorities. Thune has plenty of money to do what he needs to do. What he needs to close the deal is a smoothly run campaign in SD. I think he's going to do it, and a million or two really isn't going to turn that race anymore at this point.

Coburn, on the other hand, is in serious trouble in OK, and he desperately needs money. With it, he can counter the slime machine and still definitely win this race. Without it, we're going to have a liberal Dem from Oklahoma to take retiring conservative Senator Nickles' seat. We can't let this happen.

Coburn is a great candidate, and will make an exceptional Senator. He would be the most conservative Senator in Washington, and would shake things up in his inimical way. Everyone needs to do what they can to help him.

I really think Coburn is damaged goods. If there was more time, we would have replaced him. He should have told the GOP Senate Committee that he had sterilzed "lots of undergae girls", then we could have fielded a candidate with less BAGGAGE.

Don't get me wrong, I still hope he wins. But his past is a real tough thing to overcome.

The Dems have poured a lot of national money into this race. It needs to be countered. It's not just the seat they want -- it is also that Tom Coburn is a liberal Democrat's worst nightmare.

I hope the national party comes in and plays hardball with some serious money there. Glad to see Cheney was there. Bush needs to make a visit, too.

I heard tonight on tv that he admitted on talk radio that he had sterilized s"lots of underage girls." That doesn't play well. it's not warm and fuzzy-- we desperately need that seat.

As a fellow Oklahoman, I have some observations.

1. How is Coburn tied with Carson when President Bush has such a commanding lead over Kerry within the state? I think something isn't quite right here. I do not acceopt Coburn and Carson are tied.

2. Coburn is right when he says Carson has alot of out of state people working the campaign because I drive by the Carson for Senate HQ and there are a lot of cars in the parking lot with out of state tags.

3. Hopefully with Cheney having dropped into Tulsa to raise money for Coburn, that will help. I hope that near election eve that Bush has such a commanding lead for electoral votes that he can afford to drop in on Oklahoma and help Coburn win. It is critical that the GOP increase it's majority in the Senate, I do not want to lose a GOP Senate seat in Oklahoma to a liberal democrat like Carson.
