My reply to the following (from a Liberal) around the time the Abu G scandal first hit and accusations of “illegal invasion of Iraq“ reached a crescendo:

i AM outraged and disgusted in the acts of violence carried out by our governments in OUR names for OUR interests. are you not?
And in whose name, might I ask, and in whose interests, should we carry out acts of necessary violence? Antarctica? France?

Before I woke up to reality, there was a time when I would have echoed your sentiments because.... well, we were supposed to be ‘better‘. We knew better. We enjoyed superior standards of life. We were educated. We walked a higher moral ground. We held ourselves to higher standards. We were obligated to feed the hungry in the world because that's what good people do. We were obligated to protect the weak; take the hits for them, because that's what good people do. We were to use our extraordinary power (that we made for ourselves) for good. We should share the fruits of our labor because we are good. We wanted to keep the strong, strong so they could help bear the burden and 'pay it forward'. (Yeah, like that ever happened.)

We would show by example how prosperous and safe they could be if they'd just stop tearing each other to bits and use that energy to plant a field of corn. Build, instead of bomb, a factory. Use the Rule of Law instead of the guillotine.

We did everything in our power to make every corner of the world safe without the necessity for violence, war or the use of our truly frightening military machine; using diplomacy, using espionage, secret treaties, giving concessions that were harmful to us, propping up the economies of entire countries - several at once, mind you; supporting regimes and rulers that weren't so hot but damn, the other guy was 10 times worse, and this guy might just be willing to change his ways; paying terrible rulers to go away, sit down, shut up, don't kill, don’t hurt your people, please don't hurt us, we're only trying to help. You say you want our help? Here are our scientists, our engineers, our Peace Corps, our Red Cross, the UN, our schools, our money, our doctors, our nation; come learn, come see, we'll show you how, we'll help, find out how good life can be....

All done in the name of world peace. Trying to get everyone going already, without having to just walk in and take over the whole dang world and calling it Planet America, instead of Planet Earth, because nobody could get it right, for God's sake, and they still can't, or won't. Because then they might have to let their women keep their clitoris, or feel sun on their face; or that the other guy might get a square foot of dirt, too; or the Europeans are terrified Americans have bigger cojones and feel the need to start swinging their own around, to no discernible positive effect.

And the world clamored for our help, cursed us if it didn't arrive fast enough, or in quantities big enough or it had to come with our soldiers to guard it in their savage war-torn lands and how dare those that bring me the food and guard the food and die for the food so my child can eat wear his nation's flag that is so offensive on his sleeve. How many Americans, literally, have died over the years trying to get food to a hungry child? And when they got what they wanted, they squandered it and then cursed us again when they starved again and their babies' hair fell out and their bellies ballooned and they froze in the sub-zero winters and the warlords and the thugs took power again. And when the rains didn't fall, they cursed us twenty times over because we had food and they didn't. So we brought them more food, and they killed us for it. And we've emptied torture chambers and prisons all over the world and those we have freed cursed us for their freedom and tried to kill us because we are different. And even so, American soldiers still believe in risking their lives to feed and care for and bring freedom to the starving and oppressed wherever they can.

We send doctors and nurses and professionals all over the world. We spend billions for medicines for AIDS running rampant in Africa because monogamy is mostly unheard of and men won't use the condoms we send over free of charge by the container load because evil Americans put germs in the condoms that will make their penises rot off. But they scream at us for food and money and protection and hospitals and cures while their wives and children laying dying of a disease they gave them, the same man who beats his wife, to the approval of all others, when she asks him to wear a condom so she doesn't die.

We held back the tide of communism all over the world at the cost of blood, lives and money. Most of the world is not under communist rule because of us. And they spit on us and call us Satan, and abusers and committers of atrocities. And claim we take advantage of them.

How many countries in the world has graves of our soldiers who died protecting that country? America doesn't colonize. Look to Europe, Asia, and to Islam for the history of forced colonization. As Colin Powell said in response to accusations of American Imperialism: "the only land we ever asked for was enough ground in which to bury the men who died saving you."

And all over the world they drag the bodies of Americans through the very streets that American liberated. The very streets they begged Americans to come liberate, and cursed us when we didn't liberate them fast enough, or because we, their liberators, were of a different religion, or culture. And Europeans, who were made free and kept free by the blood of Americans, revile us and demonstrate against us and vow to take revenge upon us. They betray us without a second thought, while we still hold the wolf from their door. For 40 years we held Communism and that nutjob back from S Korea. And then they tell us go home. Demonstrate in the streets how bad and evil we are. Go home, evil imperialists! Huh? Till Rummy mentioned we might just do that, of course, and then they were begging us to please stay, please die for us…

Canada tells us to pretty much go eff ourselves while they have a standing army of what, 13? Why is that? Apparently 'cause we, who should eff ourselves, should also die for the privilege of protecting them. Mexico.... need I expound? bleh. South America, same thing.

All over the world men running around with handkerchiefs over their faces, bags over their heads (The Unknown Terrorist. He'll be here all week, folks.) shooting guns into the air, into the bushes, into each other, into women, into children, destroying their own neighborhoods, their own countries.... all the while calling out the name of the religion du jour or Doctrine of Communism, Marxism, Socialism... Julio, Mohammed, Pierre.... for revenge, vengeance, their ancestors' hatred of fish... against whatever, whoever. None of them can tie their own shoes.

And ever since the 60’s the Liberal Left has done their best to turn America into a shadow of herself, fit only for invasion and looting by others; mocking her, reviling her, accusing her, condemning this great nation at every turn, holding up her mistakes to the world for ridicule and condemnation. And even with that ball and chain weighing her down, with only half of her citizens supporting her, and many of the half who don’t support her working actively against her, America is still great enough to free 50 million people in 2 years and protect hundreds of millions from terrorism by our actions. And those same America-haters try to convince us and the world that Iraqis didn’t greet our soldiers with flowers and kisses. No, we shouldn't believe our own eyes and ears. In the modern history of the world, who’s military has consistently been greeted with cries of welcome and joy and relief shouted out by populations of innocents who know what the face of liberation looks like?

The face of liberation is an American one, unique in the world because he looks like all the rest of the world. America isn’t dark-skinned, or light-skinned, or yellow-skinned. We are every color. We are every man. It is the light in our eyes and in our hearts that make us American. We are not a nation because we share the same histories, the same faiths, the same traditions, the same race, the same territories. We are a nation because we share the same ideas; love of freedom and opportunity and goodwill toward our fellow man.

For sixty years we've taken it up the wazoo in one way or another. Sixty years. So, to answer the original question: Frankly, no. Hell, no.

"BTTT" stands for "BUMP TO THE TOP" (sometimes "BUMP" is used.) New replies "bump" the thread to the top of the list, keeping it active so that more people see it.

Well, thank you for your response, and Libertarian for the bump! I strongly feel that it's high time we begin to actively and vocierously remember all the GOOD of America. Enough with the America bashing! Silent no more.
