CAMP RUN A MUCK THANKS GREAT BRITAIN!!!

Camp Run-A-Muck Originator - Tomkow6

The United Kingdom, consisting of Great Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland) and Northern Ireland, is twice the size of New York State. England, in the southeast part of the British Isles, is separated from Scotland on the north by the granite Cheviot Hills; from them the Pennine chain of uplands extends south through the center of England, reaching its highest point in the Lake District in the northwest. To the west along the border of Wales—a land of steep hills and valleys—are the Cambrian Mountains, while the Cotswolds, a range of hills in Gloucestershire, extend into the surrounding shires.

About 31,000 British troops have already been sent to the Gulf. These include 26,000 soldiers, drawn from 1 UK Armoured Division, 7 Armoured Brigade (The Desert Rats), 16 Air Assault Brigade, and 102 Logistics Brigade. About 4,000 marines are being sent, from 40 and 42 Commando of 3 Commando Brigade. Prime Minister Tony Blair told MPs on Monday there was no way the US and Britain would back down over Iraq disarming - despite opposition at home and abroad. He said he was prepared to gamble his career on the issue, saying he did not want to be remembered as someone who "did nothing" about terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. Thank you Tony Blair!!

PETER E. DRABIC
Sergeant- United States Army
Captured: September 24, 1968
Released: March 16, 1973

After graduating from Francis Scott Key High School, Eddie became a
maintenance clerk at Mitchell Transfer in Union Bridge, Maryland. In September
1968 at age 20, Eddie became a rifleman with the 4th Infantry Division in
Vietnam. Upon leaving Friendship International Airport his father gave him a
St. Christopher medal and told him that he knew it would bring him back.

Soon after Eddie's arrival in Vietnam, his family received three letters that
he had written the three days that his unit was in the field. The next day,
while his mother and sister were baking cookies, they received a message that
Eddie was missing in action. All that could be told them was that Eddie had
been out on a recon patrol but was pinned down by an ambush of the Viet Cong.
Eddie received a face wound, became separated from his group, and when the
patrol returned to the area, he had been captured by the Viet Cong.

Until his name appeared on the final POW list of those who were coming home,
no one knew whether Eddie was alive or dead. But, the family had never given
up their faith and belief that Eddie was coming home. Two shrines had burned
continuously and the family's reliance upon God helped them all through the
ordeal.

Eddie came home ready to use his car that had been waiting in the garage, to
ski and roller skate, and to romp with his beagle, Snoop, who had so missed
his master. Union Bridge had never known such a day as the day Eddie came
home.

November 1996
Peter Drabic resides in Maryland.

Photograph, Medal of Honor and Flags

HENDRIX, JAMES R.

Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, Company C, 53d Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division.

Place and date: Near Assenois, Belgium, 26 December 1944.

Entered service at: Lepanto, Ark.

Birth: Lepanto, Ark.

G.O. No.: 74, 1 September 1945.

Citation: On the night of 26 December 1944, near Assenois, Belgium, he was with the leading element engaged in the final thrust to break through to the besieged garrison at Bastogne when halted by a fierce combination of artillery and small arms fire. He dismounted from his half-track and advanced against two 88mm. guns, and, by the ferocity of his rifle fire, compelled the guncrews to take cover and then to surrender. Later in the attack he again left his vehicle, voluntarily, to aid 2 wounded soldiers, helpless and exposed to intense machinegun fire. Effectively silencing 2 hostile machineguns, he held off the enemy by his own fire until the wounded men were evacuated. Pvt. Hendrix again distinguished himself when he hastened to the aid of still another soldier who was trapped in a burning half-track. Braving enemy sniper fire and exploding mines and ammunition in the vehicle, he extricated the wounded man and extinguished his flaming clothing, thereby saving the life of his fellow soldier. Pvt. Hendrix, by his superb courage and heroism, exemplified the highest traditions of the military service.

*HENRY, ROBERT T.

Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division.

Place and date: Luchem, Germany, 3 December 1944.

Entered service at: Greenville, Miss.

Birth: Greenville, Miss.

G.O. No.: 45, 12 June 1945.

Citation: Near Luchem, Germany, he volunteered to attempt the destruction of a nest of 5 enemy machineguns located in a bunker 150 yards to the flank which had stopped the advance of his platoon.

Stripping off his pack, overshoes, helmet, and overcoat, he sprinted alone with his rifle and hand grenades across the open terrain toward the enemy emplacement. Before he had gone half the distance he was hit by a burst of machinegun fire. Dropping his rifle, he continued to stagger forward until he fell mortally wounded only 10 yards from the enemy emplacement. His single-handed attack forced the enemy to leave the machineguns. During this break in hostile fire the platoon moved forward and overran the position. Pvt. Henry, by his gallantry and intrepidity and utter disregard for his own life, enabled his company to reach its objective, capturing this key defense and 70 German prisoners.

"If there be any glory in war, let it rest on the shoulders of men like these."   -- Audie Murphy

Thank you to every soldier, sailor, airman, marine and coast guardsman who has ensured that I have the freedoms I have today.  You are my heroes.

You will not be forgotten.

Excerpt from Dubyuh's 23 February 2004 sppech to the Nation's Governors...

"On national security, Americans have the clearest possible choice. Our opponents say they approve of bold action in the world, but only if no other government disagrees. I'm all for united action, and so are the 34 coalition partners we have in Iraq right now. But America must never out-source America's national security decisions to the leaders of other governments. Some of our opponents are skeptical that the war on terror is really a war at all. They view terrorism more as a crime -- a problem to be solved with law enforcement and indictments.

Our nation followed that approach after the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993. The matter was handled in the courts, and thought to be settled. But the terrorists were still training in Afghanistan, plotting in other nations, and drawing up more ambitious plans. After the chaos and carnage of September the 11th, it is not enough to serve our enemies with legal papers. With those attacks, the terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States -- and war is what they got. The men and women who are fighting the war and who have seen the enemy understand the stakes. Last year, in a letter home from the Iraqi theater, a Navy Corpsman named Lonnie Lewis wrote this: "We have to remind ourselves of what this country stands for: life, liberty and justice for all. In order to maintain those rights, we have to stop the threat of terrorism." Corpsman Lewis's letter concludes: "My family is first. My country is where they live. I will defend it."

This is the caliber of the people who are defending America. We are counting on them. The people of Iraq, and people across the Middle East, are depending on them. And I assure you, ladies and gentlemen, the cause of freedom is in good hands. This nation is prosperous and strong, yet we need to remember the sources of America's greatness. We're strong because we love freedom. America has a special charge to keep, because we are freedom's home and defender. We believe that freedom is the deepest need and hope of every human heart. We believe that freedom is the future of every nation, and we know that freedom is not America's gift to the world, it is the Almighty God's gift to every man and woman in this world."
