BANGOR, Maine, Sept. 23 -- It had been a pretty glum day for Spec. Brian Parker, who along with the other members of his National Guard unit said goodbye to their families and departed on a charter flight for a long-term stint in Iraq. But then, on a refueling stop here, a familiar figure boarded the plane.
"We were down when we left our families," Parker said, giving a thumbs down. "But then we heard Air Force One was here. It's a good morale boost."
President Bush, after a campaign appearance in Bangor, held his plane on the tarmac when he heard an MD-11 carrying 292 Army reservists and National Guard members were about to refuel here. For the troops, grimly heading toward an 18-to-24-month assignment in Iraq, it was a welcome lift. For Bush, who has been accusing his Democratic presidential opponent, Sen. John F. Kerry, of demoralizing the troops in Iraq by criticizing the war effort, it was a chance to demonstrate his devotion to the troops. "May God bless you all," the commander in chief said over the plane's public address system. "May God keep you safe."
LOL They'd throw him off the plane. Wonder if Kerry is brave (or stupid) enough to tell any one of these troops that President Bush is lying to them?
I do not believe any man could maintain the tenderness, humbleness, intense steadyness and firmness as he fights not only a deadly enemy without, but an insidious enemy within (the leftist cabal in the press in conjunction with opponents UNWORTHY in ideology and patriotism to run against him), without the hand of God leading him in a very loving and direct way.
It is our President's love of a higher authority that impacts his every decision and action.
He has mastered himself, through his total faith in our Father. He knows who he is, and he knows where he wants to take his nation.
Because gore, kerry and clinton NEVER figured out who they were, and never will, probably, they will always miss greatness, because that never happens without understanding where real authority is found.
Turns out that the contact was between molars....
AMD sure does have a pink head today. I had a couple of extra bumper stickers to hold up to the protesters on the way out of there. Did you see that guy who parked his car in the middle of the exit to try to block people from leaving? There were some teens putting Bush stickers over his own bumper stickers while he was busy yelling at folks who were leaving. The police were right there but I guess they were turning a blind eye due to the fact that they guy had parked his car in an area that was blocked off to no parking.
I agree100%.... I thought as I saw the photos - these brave soldiers will spend the next 40 days (and beyond) serving our country in Iraq.... What can I do in here to guarantee their Commander-in-Chief gets re-elected.... Since I'm in a "safe" Bush state - we are even considering going to Fla. to work the last week....
When I flew to S.A. for the first event in the sand, we carried our weapons (fully operational) with us - security of said weapons was left to us, but we didn't get any ammo until we were on terra firma in the desert.
Cat Stevens is in the cargo hold, in a Pet cadge under sedation.
Ouch!
I love this man too! I wonder if he did this to boost morale, after Kerry did everything to lower it? Maybe Bush felt these troops needed the extra encouragement since the traitor made sure his remarks of doom and gloom would be heard?
What a guy!
What a Man!
What a President!
safely stored in the overhead compartment.
That is excellent!
Yes, that says it all!
I am now officially jealous of Laura Bush!
No dustbin--there is no legacy!!
