Bush ahead in swing states, will defeat Kerry: Karl Rove
Thu Sep 23, 1:03 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush will defeat his Democratic rival, John Kerry, in the November 2 election because he is leading in the polls in the key US swing states, the president's top political adviser said in an interview.

Karl Rove, who has a Machiavellian reputation as a political mastermind, said in an interview with The Washington Times that many states "that were expected to be in close contention are floating out of contention" and into Bush's camp.

With the US electorate highly polarized and largely decided, there are only some 16 "battleground" states stretching from Oregon to Florida that are considered still up for grabs.

It takes 270 electoral votes of the 538 apportioned among the states and awarded in separate winner-take-all contests to win the election.

Rove told the newspaper that the swing states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia are already in the Bush camp. The Republicans must now hang on to Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire and Ohio, four key states that he won in 2000.

Nationally, Bush leads Kerry by five or six points, Rove said, citing internal campaign polls.

However, he warned about the debates the candidates have scheduled.

Kerry "will be the best debater the president's ever faced," Rove told the Times. "We underestimate Kerry at our peril. He is very good at this; he's an aggressor. He goes in there flailing."

But Rove believes that the biggest problem the Democrats have "is not getting Kerry's people to dislike Bush; it's getting (them) to like Kerry."

"Hatred is a powerful emotion, but it is not a very durable emotion. You cannot maintain hatred in your heart for another person and keep it for a long period of time," Rove said.

The November election is shaping up to be just as close as the 2000 cliffhanger in which outgoing vice president Al Gore won the popular tally but lost to Bush by five electoral votes.

Very deft criticism within a supposed compliment.

The SwiftVets helped, no doubt.

But they did not craft the Convention, or the themes, or the on-the-ground efforts of the RNC, or the rapid response team.

Rove is the campaign manager, and is guiding the Bush campaign. He deserves the credit for Bush's win. The Swiftvets are owed a huge debt of gratitude.

I'd like a piece of that action! We can be confident that no election will ever be that close again.

Rove has been bashed here during this Spring & Summer. I will admit to uneasyness myself, however, the guys that make the final table in Texas hold'em seem to have an uncanny ability to measure the opposition and go to the throat at the appropriate time.

Carl Rove is, without doubt, decapitating Kerry right in front of our eyes.

I say, "raise his pay" and let him have this weekend off.

The leftists fear Karl Rove as if he's a master Shao-Lin assassin that can pass through walls, fly over houses, and can walk silently across a carpet made of fragile dragonfly wings leaving no trace.

Terry McAuliffe, on the other hand, is a goggle-eyed boob prone to childish outbursts and only knows what side of his face looks best facing the cameras -- breathlessly awaiting the next rare moment he actually gets to appear on TV.

The leftists wish they had their own Karl Rove. Their hatred for him is really all admiration because they know he's superior and unbeatable -- just like the way the San Francisco Forty-Niners hate the Green Bay Packers.

I don't know if it's all true or not, but I like knowing that they believe it and fear him.

The swiftvets deserve some credit, not all.

The Bush campaign had stopped the bleeding and edged back to competitive when the Vets appeared. The Swiftvets softened Kerry's one stated reason to be Prez, this sent Bush's numbers climbing and he started to pull a slight lead right before the convention. The RNC convention took that momentum and roared forward. Since then we've had 9-11 remembrance, and forgeries take place. I certainly am willing to give credit to the Swiftees, but it isn't accurate to say they are solely responsible for the lead.

The media still has all this time to chip away at Bush

Chip? They've been using a sledge hammer for the past 4 years+!

The only option they have left is nucular, and I do believe they done "shot their wad"!

He deserves the credit for Bush's win.

He deserves credit, yes; however, BUSH deserves credit for his win even more than Rove.

Rove also predicted a big victory the night before the 2000 election. I hope Rove has his finger on the pulse of the Democrat Vote Fraud Machine because it will be in full effect.

So how come they agreed to THREE debates

Because it was a ploy that played into Bush's hands. The original plan had 4 debates, and one of those debates was the stupid town hall thingy that featured questions from sheeple audience members ("What will the gov't do for health care waaaa...")

So the Bush team modified the debates. The first debate is on foreign policy and defense.

I don't think that's right. The original plan was for three Presidential debates, including the townhall format, and one vice-presidential debate.

That's what was eventually accepted. Whether some details of the debates were modified in order to get Bush to agree to three debates hasn't been fully disclosed, or at least I haven't seen them.

the best thing Rove could do is shutup and get back to work - we need an ad showing all of Kerry's positions on the iraq war, in his own words, position after position after position.

this race is far from over.

NOT ALL of the states electoral votes are allocated in a "winner-take-all" fashion. There ARE states that allocate electoral votes according to other criteria...

Two states I know of that do that are Nebraska and Maine. I think Bush got one electoral vote in Maine last time, but I might be mistaken. If it turns out to be another cliff-hanger (which I doubt) ONE electoral vote could make the difference however, and these are strange times we're living in.
