I have solid evidence that the source of Dan Rather's documents was actually a mysterious red-headed woman by the name of LUCY RICARDO.
She apparently has suspicious ties to a pre-Castro Cuban band leader.
Will post more as it becomes available.

Last summer Ricardo was seen in the den of Agent Mertz, stuffing his pants and socks with confidential documents. Although Mertz noted this we didn't prosecute Ricardo. We waited to see where the documents would lead. Our suspicions were confirmed last week when Ricardo was spotted handing off the documents to Rather at a "golden age of television" retrospective banquet.

I loved that one, lucy kept taking Souvenir boulders
and putting them in the trailers cupboards, no wonder it wouldn't stop. Although when she was working on the chocolate factory line had to be the funniest, it kept speeding up and she started eating them and stuffing them in her blouse! Bwhhahaha.
