Ave Maria List Ad Goes Up Against Daschle Radio spot highlights dramatic change

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Ave Maria List, the nation's first and only Catholic-based political action committee, launched a statewide radio ad in South Dakota that criticizes Senator Tom Daschle’s abandonment of South Dakota values.

”When South Dakota voters elected Tom Daschle to Congress in 1979, they believed him to be for life, for the traditional family, for the Balanced Budget Amendment, and for the Second Amendment. But his votes and leadership show a dramatic change on these issues that were once important to him,” said Joseph Cella, Executive Director of the Ave Maria List.

Cella stated: “The Nuns who taught Tom Daschle in grade school would be very saddened to see how much Senator Daschle has changed. He first told them that he was ‘opposed to abortion’ and called it an ‘abhorrent practice,’ but has voted repeatedly to allow abortions on military bases overseas and raises money for NARAL, the nation’s biggest pro-abortion lobby.”

“I’m sure the good Sisters also wouldn’t be too pleased that he let his colleagues block confirmation of Judge Bill Pryor because of the judges ‘deeply held’ religious beliefs,” added Cella.

The Ave Maria List was launched in 2002 and supports Senate candidates in key races that meet their pro-life, pro-family and pro-subsidiarity criteria. Last year, The Ave Maria List sponsored a successful round of radio and print ads placed in Rhode Island and Maine, in which they pointed out Democrat attacks on Pryor's religious beliefs.

A transcript and audio file of the ad are available upon request.

That is really funny. I wonder if Cella is a FReeper?

This is an example of a good third-party ad, because it compliments and enhances the theme of the Republican candidate, Thune, who has criticized Daschle's two sides, the one he shows in SoDak and the one in D.C.

It pays off when you hammer home the same theme.

The ad takes the right sort of approach to appeal to those who have voted repeatedly for the once-moderate Daschle and who may have "voter inertia" -- but just haven't really focused on how leftist he's become, how damaging he is to the state's interests. Better to say Daschle once WAS good (but now has become bad), than just to say BAD DASCHLE.

Senator, (hopefully soon to be 'ex') Tom Daschle is in deep trouble with his constituency.

Dug up the text.....

What's happened to Tom Daschle?

He's changed so much.

When Tom Daschle ran for Congress he was for a balanced-budget amendment….but on the brink of passage, he voted no.

In his last campaign, Tom Daschle said he didn't support gun control but now he votes against law-abiding gun owners.

Daschle once called abortion quote "an abhorrent practice"….but now he raises money for the nation's biggest pro-abortion group.

Tom Daschle even let his colleagues block confirmation of a respected judge….. just because of the judge’s “deeply held” religious beliefs.

And just this year Daschle said he "opposed gay marriage," yet he didn't vote for the Federal Marriage Amendment.

Tom Daschle has changed.

He just doesn't represent South Dakota values like he used to.

But John Thune shares our values…he's conservative….independent…and he never forgets where he comes from.

Senator Dashole has been an impediment to the Presidents agenda from the beginning. Mr. Dashole has made America less safe in his zeal to take down Mr. Bush
I can't believe Mr. Dashole has the same shared values of the great people of the Dakotas. The folks from Dakota can't hate america like Dashole. He'd take the country down the river to gain power.
This little man Dashole has a Hitler complex, he wants to be a big cheese and he is little more then a little shrimp.
After he loses just what the heck is he good for? Like Mr. Randy Neumann once wrote, short people got no reason to live.
