WASHINGTON - Bowing to political realities, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) has canceled plans to begin broadcasting television commercials in Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana and the perennial battleground of Missouri.
The decision to shrink his political playing field reduces Kerry's strategic options at least for now in the homestretch of the campaign. George W. Bush won all four states in 2000, and Kerry can't win the White House without taking one or two of them away from the Republican incumbent.
The ads were scheduled to begin airing Oct. 5 as part of a $5 million investment through Nov. 2, but campaign advisers concluded Kerry isn't doing well enough in the states to justify the cost.

If we were talking about Clinton, "pull out" would mean something else *entirely*! ;)
and I live in CENTRAL Illinois, a fact lost on many Chicago area residents who consider any place south of Chicago as "down state".
I got my first taste of what Chicago is all about in the early 70s when I got my first parking ticket from there. They mailed it to me.
Problem was I had never been to Chicago in my life.
Then I read about it in the paper. Chicago was mailing tickets at random throughout the state in hopes that some of us rubes would just pay them.
They did it again in the early 80s.
This is the best news I've heard all day.
He damn sure isnt gonna win Louisiana
This fits in rather (sorry) well with what Henchster has been saying about a Hillary coup d'etat.
Wish it were true. But its not. Kerry can win the white house by holding his serve and winning Ohio or Florida.
I think the author is referring to the fact that Kerry must take at least 1 large state or a couple of small state from Bush in order to win - whereas Bush can win just by holding all the states he had last time. As it stands now, Bush is set to take Wisconsin, Iowa, and possibly Minnesota - if he takes those three and loses Florida, he still wins by 10 EV.
"W's gonna win FL by 3 points this time."
Is that before the recount?
I'm still treating this election as if GWB is 10 points behind.
I'm checking with neighbors to see if they are registered and need a ride to vote on Nov. 2.
And I got a big bunch of Bush/Cheney2004 stickers from my local GOP office and the Internet, and am sticking them everywhere I can get away with.
And I'm giving about $25 a week to whichever national GOP organization I think needs it most.
My worst nightmare is that we all become overconfident, sort of like what almost occurred in 2000 when Zogby (I hate to say) predicted the race better than all other pollsters.
sw
Yahoo, we Missourians don't have to listen to his drivel!!!!!
Tinfoil
I guess the ARGH Poll must not match Kerry's internal polls.
i hope you are right! Florida and Colorado have been making me nervous
Yup! Weighed in the balances...and found wanting!
Dining on longhorn?
Can you add and subtract and project.....hell he may only win the folks who only understand sucking on the government mammary.....DC
How about it, Teresa?
