I'm not supporting the idea that Islam = terrorism. I'm just saying that it's not about a religion evolving. The understanding of that religion changes over the centuries, true. But the texts have not evolved, and Christianity and Judaism are still based upon those texts.

This is a good point, one of which I consistently remind people. For every "See?! Islam is peaceful!" quote from the Qur'an, there are 5 "Kill the Infidel!" quotes.
In all seriousness I have a way for small a group of Muslims to get some headlines for their cause.
Have all Muslim New York Taxi drivers pull over and stop for 1 minute and stand next to their cabs protesting terrorism. They would get so much press it wouldn't be funny.
Don't be deceived. Christianity has not EVOLVED into peaceful nothingness. While Jesus showed the world the depth of God's love and forgiveness, the grace period to take advantage of that is not eternal.

And then I REALLY started doing some reading and decided against THAT and gave up Christianity for Lent.
If I was GOING to choose a main-stream religion, I'd be a Jew, but a bunch of that would be out of sympathy and solidarity for Israel, so i do not. .

We don't have Crusades being launched with the Pope's blessing in order to glom onto land and resources, old ladies aren't being burned at the stake, Jews aren't being forced to live in ghettos and children on Indian reservations aren't having their names changed and being forced to convert to Christianity or forbidden to speak their native languages.
My point, if you haven't guessed yet, is that Islam is perhaps THE MOST MISUNDERSTOOD religion in the West. The Communists and their allies on the political Left are working overtime to place the blame for global terrorism on Islam. And they have succeeded in this goal if the above posts are any indication of the mindset of your average conservative. As I have said over and over on the WE ARE THE NEXT TARGET and TERRORISTS IN MUSLIM DISGUISE threads, the US is being taken for a ride by Communists/Marxists posing as Muslims.

Think about it: Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, Shintoists, ..... according to mainstream Christianity those are all going You Know Where. the Hindus and Buddhists are the most populous and make up most of the world...What sort of God damns that many of the people he supposedly created right out of the gate?

The aggressors can commit such violence only with the intention of attacking religion itself.
It may well be that those who carried out this violence did so to present religion as evil in the eyes of people, to divorce people from religion and to generate hatred towards those who are religiously inclined. Consequently, every attack on American citizens or other innocent people having a religious facade is actually an attack made against religion.
Oh, BTW, I agree. Christianity is ANYTHING but peaceful!

There was never a Biblical, "from God", order to "Convert or Kill" everyone on the planet. "The Mark" was never unrestricted.
And, of course, none of the Biblical orders to war are Christian....and even then, most of warfare is from the Torah.
The quran, on the other hand, requires muslims to practice unrestricted warfare on anyone who is not a muslim.
That is the singular most outrageous difference between islam and the worlds living religions.

The truth about this is easy to find. Simply ask yourself what type of person would you be if you lived your life trying to be like Buddha, Jesus, Krishna, or Zoroaster? I am thinking St. Francis, Mother Theresa, Ghandi.
Then ask yourself what kind of person you would be if you tried to be like Muhammad? I am thinking Osama Bin Laden, Muhammad Atta, Ayatollah Khomeini, John Muhammad, Lee Malvo...
This ain't rocket science, but it is hard to get people to see it.

I DO know, that in the Koran proper, (NOT one of the commentaries that gets attached to modern korans) there are several exortations to protect and not hassle the "Peoples of the Book", that is , Jews and Christians.

At least a couple of you are starting to see that the West (including conservatives) has been completely duped by the far Left. They tried to do the same thing in support of the Sandanistas (Nicaraguan Communists) and the ANC (South African Communists) by getting Marxist-Atheists to pose as priests and advocate on behalf of Communist revolution...it was known as "Liberation Theology." However, this wasn't nearly as effective because Christians and Catholics know their own religion!!! But when it comes to the Communists propoganda campaign against Islam, conservatives fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Cool...check it out, but it's not my site. I just recommend it every chance I get.
I also like to suggest to some of our Arab friends to lurk on FR to see just how much debate it takes to keep a free republic working. We're all kings and mullahs here!
