XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX MON SEPT 20, 2004 20:02:09 ET XXXXX
BUSH OFFICIALS WANT CBSNEWS MODERATOR OFF DEBATE Just hours after CBSNEWS admitted it cannot prove the authenticity of documents used in a 60 MINUTES story about President Bush's National Guard service, top Bush advisers are recommending a CBS reporter be removed as moderator of a planned presidential debate, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
At question is the approved Oct. 13 debate at Arizona State University in Tempe with Bob Schieffer, chief Washington correspondent for CBSNEWS, moderating.
"Considering the circumstances, we should definitely ask that Schieffer be replaced," a top Bush adviser told the president on Monday, according to a well-placed source.
The well-placed source continued: "Who can trust these CBS people to play it straight [during the debate]? I suspect they will be out for revenge."
The president is said to have not made any decision whether to seek a removal of the planned CBSNEWS moderator.
Developing...
If SeeBS has any interest in damage control, they won't dare try any ambush-style questions in the debate, at least not directed at Bush.
Grrr. ;-)
Thank goodness for that!
And golf. They do golf better than anyone else. But otherwise I agree with you :)
Fantastic!
Perhaps you have noticed that the Commission on Presidential Debates hasn't the guts to allow any feedback from the sheeple. They won't even publish a snail-mail address. No email address, nothing.
I'm writing my Congressman and complaining. Let him find a way to contact the commission.
DUMP BOB SCHIEFFER!
ping
I know the town hall style is the Dems favorite since Clinton was so successful with them. I am sure they will have some hippie throw backs in the audience with pre-approved questions.
I posted something similar (to make a point) on an earlier thread but it got pulled. I guess they (mods) found it unsuitable, vulgar and smutty. (It was.) So I suspect yours will be too.
Keep trying!
The Bush campaign better be careful what you wish for. Dump Schieffer for what another whiney lefty reporter? At least Schieffer will feel pressure to be not as obviously rooting for Kerry with the debacle over his head. What is the saying...keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
It is a nice double bind for Walter! The old--most-trusted-man-in-America winner. He must have some cognative dissonance to wrestle with.
Still, I expect he'll rationalize and still sleep nights, somehow.
Sigh. Soooooo many Commies, too little will to deal with them, too few bullets.

"Maybe they can get Britt Hume."
Yessss, the best interviewer in the business today, bar none. Fair, balanced and unafraid.
**Maybe they can get Britt Hume.**
Sounds good to me. If I remember correctly all the rest were dimocrats.
Looks like the White House is listening -- see thread "BOB SHEIFFER - you're fired" here in FR from days ago....demanding an impartial (non CBS) moderator would be most appropriate at this point. Granted they would never pick someone from Fox -- so who else? Larry King or Baba WaWa? Get real -- Brit Hume would be the best - but as much as he aggrevates me I'd love to see O'Reilly get the nod as he would ask tough questions all around, and I'm not worried about GW's ability to handle this, Kerry would trip all over himself trying to straddle both sides of any issue.
When you have your enemy down, you keep kicking them. Make no mistake CBS is just as much the enemy as Kerry. Bush team beating on CBS like a drum.
I only hope the debates can get past Kerry's smokescreen - I want to know just how far left he plans to take the country.
How dare the Bush Administration impugn the integrity of CBS News! I am outraged!
Like any of the rest of the moderators are any better.
