How Bush and the Truth defeat CBS and The Washington Monthly
CBSs Rat has to eat his own tale but Washington Monthlys Joshua cant Marshall the courage to admit defeat.
While the CBS anchorman Dan Rat Rather is forced to say sorry the Washington Monthlys Joshua Marshall just cant bring himself to admit defeat. CBSs attempt to smear the President was scuppered and the Rat publicly admitted that we made a mistake in judgment, and for that Im sorry. So the rat made an ass of himself, well it happens from time to time when your objective is a smear campaign. Another chapter closed.
So what about Joshua being scuppered. Well the story is very simple, Rocco Martino, the guy at the center of the Nigergate scandal spilled the beans. When the Italian judge asked the million dollar question all Martino could do was tell the truth: it was the French all along. Just to clear up any misunderstandings Martino then added that the Italians had NEVER had anything to do in the affair. Sorry Josh but when the truth emerges it emerges and you just cant refute it.
So now that the truth is out what does good old Josh do? The only thing thats left to the by now discredited investigative journalist: he claims, though his comments published on the www.talkingpointsmemo.com site, that the others got it all wrong. In doing so he makes the mistake of insulting Londons Sunday Telegraph and may now face legal action for slander. Josh it looks bad, bad, bad.
If, as Josh maintains, the FBI were interested in Martino why didnt he hand him over on one of the two occasions that, by his own admission, he brought Rocco Martino into the United States in order to be interviewed by CBS? In addition knowing that Martino was wanted by the Italian judges why did Marshal take him to the States to use him against President Bush and Italy? Maybe Josh has some explaining to do.
Just one last comment, if CBS had transmitted the interview with Martino the Italian Judges would have issued a public statement ruining what little credibility CBS has left.
You've completely lost me. What does Rathergate have to do with the other story (which I have never heard anything about) you mention?
?
I'd argue/support this vanity enthusiastically if I had a clue what you were discussing.
Sounds to me like a bad attempt at British tabloid style insider pages...
How about simply telling the story??
"Wounds my heart with a monotonous langour"
Rocco Martino: I am the Source of the False Niger/Iraq Uranium Story
"The Sunday Times on Sunday and the Financial Times on Monday report that an Italian businessman and fraudster named Rocco Martino has said that he was the source of the false stories and documents related to Iraqs alleged attempts to buy uranium from Niger. He explained that in 1999, French intelligence sought information about business dealings in Niger. He has met with French intelligence officials in Brussels ever since 1999 on a regular basis and knew about the situation in Niamey.
"Highly placed European officials admit that Martino provided the French with documents showing that Iraq may have been planning to expand trade with Niger. In fact, the documents did not refer to uranium, and the trade plans were probably the typical sort of relationship Arab oil states had with a whole range of third world countries.
"Martino was surprised when he saw that the French immediately jumped to the wrong conclusion and thought that the documents indicated an Iraqi interest in uranium. (We now know that Iraq had no nuclear program and so it is hard to see what it would have done with the uranium, anyway). ..."
Zapping my beeber is a hugh mistake.
Isnt it possible that the mole, Rocco Martino, led on a line by Joshua Marshall was fed the Nigergate claims, by one account of the FBI? Seems to me this case was a mistake of utilitarian, if not conspiratorial, significance vis-à-vis the original smorgasbord.
Glad it's not just me. Some days, I wonder.......
The chair is against the wall.
???
I'm seriesly stuned.
?
Correct!
