The House of Representatives is expected to take action on the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) possibly this week. Today, September 20 has been dubbed "Congressional Call-in Day" to encourage people to contact their congressman politely persuading them to stand for marriage and vote in favor of the FMA.
The legislation, H.J.Res. 56 was introduced by Rep. Musgrave (R-CO) and requires a 2/3 majority to pass the House. As you recall, in July the FMA failed to receive even the required votes to end debate in the Senate and was never brought up for a vote on the merits. However, since the House operates under different rules than the Senate, this vote will be on the merits of the bill and a representative will not be able to hide behind some "procedural" vote!
To find out who your Congressman is, please visit the House web site at http://www.house.gov/ . Their contact information, including phone number and email address, is available on their Congressional web site. Also, below are listed the Congressmen who are currently cosponsors of H.J.Res. 56. Currently that list is 130 Congressmen, but 288 are needed for this to pass. If one of these is your representative, please thank them for taking a stand for marriage. However, if your representative is not on this list, then they are either undecided or in opposition to the Federal Marriage Amendment.
Please also remember that every House member is up for election every two years - that means in November's election, all 435 members of the House of Representatives will be on that ballot in their home state.

Two of four in my state: Ryun and Tiahrt. I love those guys.
We met Jim and his family years ago. They're great people.
'SAME SEX MARRIAGE HITS HOUSE FLOOR'
**THAT**
is an unfortunate headline...
They don't need to pass it. It already is federal law.
TITLE 1 > CHAPTER 1 > Sec. 7. United States Code
Sec. 7. - Definition of ''marriage'' and ''spouse''
In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word ''marriage'' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ''spouse'' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife

Oak Hay... now let's pile lots 'n lots of huge stones upon it so it stays there... permanently !!!

FMA
One for the Ping list. Call your Congresscritters and let them know we want this Amendment passed!
And for every RINO that votes against it:
ACTIVELY CAMPAIGN FOR THEIR DEFEAT NEXT TIME AROUND no matter WHO they are running against. It is the only way to stop these POS.
Homosexual Agenda Ping - Musgrove is great. I wish I could vote for her; I get her email newsletter.
Funny how every time actual people get to vote on same sex "marriage", it goes down in flames?
Let me and Scripter know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.
So much for the homosexual "tolerance" propaganda, aye? Civil unions die the same quick death.
It looks like lj beat me to it!
We cannot allow that to happen. Ever.
BTTT
Of COURSE they need to pass it.
This is the ONLY way to keep the courts out of this.
Otherwise Mass. Law becomes the law of the land.
Every single legal scholar agrees the DMA would fail a full faith and credit challenge.
Can't they find a bed?
