My source familiar with discussions within CBS says that the discussions of "Dan falling on his sword" have been "muttered all over the place, but there is nothing solid - so far just "rumor and speculation." However, many staffers has been told to gather around 11 a.m. for an announcement of some sort.

This statement should have been issued a week ago, when it might have sounded plausible and contrite enough to let CBS off the hook and restore its credibility.
It is far too late for Dan Rather to claim that he made "an error of judgment in good faith," because if he had exercised even a modicum of good faith, he would not have spent the last week stonewalling everyone.

"Therefore.... I shall resign the anchorship effective at noon tomorrow. Vice-Anchor Williams will be sworn in as anchor at that hour in this studio."
(Oh, wait.... he didn't say that? Damn.)

Rather still does not admit that the documents are forged.

Rathead, went to Texas to get Burkettes story, came back with it, the Heads of CBS/Viacom, realised they were dealing with a nutter and so the half apology.
To: Rutles4Ever
MSNBC says that Rather will be issuing his own statement sometime today.
