Top Democrats slapped back Sunday at a remark by House Speaker Dennis Hastert that al Qaeda leaders want Sen. John Kerry to beat President Bush in November. At a campaign rally Saturday in his Illinois district with Vice President Dick Cheney, Hastert said al Qaeda "would like to influence this election" with an attack similar to the train bombings in Madrid days before the Spanish national election in March. When a reporter asked Hastert if he thought al Qaeda would operate with more comfort if Kerry were elected, the speaker said, "That's my opinion, yes."

Dennis Hastert is correct. Why else would Americans give the President a 30-point advantage in the polls when it comes to fighting terrorism?

These Democrat Party operatives had better wake up and smell the friggin' coffee: their party is in the crapper when it comes to foreign policy. Bowing the knee to the U.N., France and Germany just isn't going to play in Peoria.

After years of letting the RATS say and do as they please without lifting a finger in response, Hastert finally speaks....will he show back bone after the election?

Further down:

"And I remind you that, you know, we could have done a lot better," McAuliffe said on CNN's "Late Edition."

"The president of the United States, on August 6th of 2001, was told in his briefing that America was going to be attacked by al Qaeda and they may use airplanes," McAuliffe said, referring to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

"He didn't call the FAA. He didn't leave his monthlong vacation. He sat down there."

I cannot believe they are still pursuing this line of sludge.

I hope he sticks to his guns on this. He spoke his mind and it is the truth.

That's the one thing the dems can't stand......TRUTH!

Good question, r!

Talk is cheap; action is rare. I'll be anxious to see if he stands his ground, or falters and retreats.

No problem with what he said, BBG; I echo it and applaud. Let's hope he doesn't retreat and equivocate, as he has in the past.

After the election FRs need to apply pressure on the Republicans to heave the RINOs and counter the RATS at every turn.

"Let me just say this in the simplest possible terms," Edwards said at a rally in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania."When John Kerry is president of the United States, we will find al Qaeda where they are and crush them before they can do damage to the American people."

...except Iraq...of course.

If the 'Rats are right about this, why aren't they selling bumper stickers that ask who Osama would vote for?

Hastert must stick to his comment.

I'm so tired of political figures backing off what they say and what's obviously true.

What he said reflects one of the fundamental truths of this election. Shying away from these fundamental truths only helps Kerry.

The guy who sold us out in Vietnam is now supposed to stand tough against terrorists?

Kerry-Edwards wouldn't know a terrorist, or where to look for them, if their freaking lives depended upon it. I'm in Penna, and few people here believe their line of steaming BS. Except the lib-dem filth in Philly and Pitt.

What Edwards meant was IF they attack us again we will track down the perps like any other crime.
We will not take any OFFENSIVE action against those nations supporting or harboring the terrorists
That might offend the UN
