For a father to be able but unwilling to pay for his son's education is a believable thing. However for a father to consider (or not) getting a job to pay for his son's college education is not quite so plausible, since the purpose of obtaining such education is so that one can get a job. Not to mention that, if the father refuses to pay for the college in the first place, he is certainly not going to get a job to help pay for the loans. That is likely why so many posters on the thread, myself included, are reading the original comment as stating that the son was unwilling to get a job.

If you are able to point me to the incorrect nature of my earlier assumption, minus your air of condescension, I will happily correct myself.

Lets hope someday she understands.

I hope so, too. Going through life filled with hate is a horrible way to live. I hope she finds some peace.

I bet, though, if she was a man the Secret Service would be all over her.

would help land him a job with the CIA or FBI -- his dream jobs. "Not for patriotism," said his mother, Sue Niederer

Do we really want "not patriots" working at the CIA or FBI? Seems that causes a lot of trouble.

What kind of man joins the military during wartime with the goal of eventually becoming an FBI or CIA agent without having a sense of patriotism?

I don't think Seth's patriotism should be questioned. He was 24 years old. I'm sure that he knew the risks involved before he signed up. His mother is transferring her own feelings onto her dead son which is a shame.

I suppose it's easier for her to blame President Bush for her son's death than it is to blame her son for the choice that he made. Grief-stricken or not, nothing excuses her comments regarding her desire to kill the President.

Last I checked, serving in the military qualified as gainful employment.

RIght on.

And, if he want the money without combat, I believe there are still provisions in student loans about year-for-year forgiveness for taking various jobs...like teaching?

I know there were in mine, but that has been donkey's years.

Actually Freedom of speech does not extend to threating anybody. Elected offical or not.

Try saying this about your boss in this kind of public manner and you will get a visit from the boys in blue.

These stories really make me sick. I feel for the mother, but this young man was a college grad and was going in after 9/11. Does anyone who joins now honestly think they will not be involved in the war on terrorism. I don't care if the Pope told him he would be stateside, we are at war, use some common sense.

That said, God rest his soul and my hat goes off his family(no matter what his pinko mom says).

But, he wanted the military skills for his resume for a job in the CIA or FBI.

"no training"

That's got to be a lie. The mom is looking for someone to blame.

>>>Was she an anti-war activist BEFORE her son joined?

Yes she was. I don't remember seeing that in this above article; but it was on our local radio talk show (I am in NJ, 20 minutes form where she lives).

Where's the father in all this? Slamming them down at the local watering hole? Hiding under the couch? Anaesthetized in front of the TV?

Seth Dvorin's father is a retired detective out of the New Brunswick police department, and he is very, very proud of his son.

Seth's father is extremely embarassed about his ex-wife and everything she has said about Seth. (The couple got divorced more than 15 years ago, if my memory is correct.

There was an article in The Trentonian with the father's point of view, but for some reason it is not in the archives.

Also, the thing about the father not paying for college is baloney.

How do I know. I spoke with him several times after a previous newspaper story in which Niederer said some outrageous and hurtful things about the son and the family.

Believe me when I say that this woman has such hatred in her heart for President Bush than she does respect for the memory of her own son, Seth Dvorin. How pathetic is that???

Lastly, the thing about the military recruiter breaking a promise is bogus to the max. Seth joined the military after 9/11 because he wanted to serve his country, not to get $$$.

Are you suggesting that the recruiter told the boy that he would never see combat?

There is no such suggestion in this article.

Seems a certain poster is the LIAR.

I thought everyone understood that the military puts you where they need you. You may get a guaranteed training in a particular field, but after that, you serve where they want you, doing WHAT they want you to do.

How much combat is the Navy and Air Force seeing right now? If the Son supposedly wanted to "avoid combat" why didn't he joing them?

Does noone actually read the posts around here? Third post saying the same thing. The poster was talking about this boy's PARENTS!!! Father! The woman's husband. Not the boy.

From post #41, by the same poster who gave us #14:

I meant a civilian job.

Turns out he was referring to the son, but inadvertently left out the crucial piece of information to show that he was referring to a civilian job, which led so many to believe that he was demeaning the military. However, he was referring to the son.

It seems that you're the one who doesn't read the posts around here. Next time, be a little more careful before you start shouting at people.
