An Interview with Sue Niederer Her Son Was Told by the Recruiter He Wouldn't See Combat; Now He's Dead
By ELIZABETH WEILL-GREENBERG
Seth, 24, was in debt after he graduated from Rutgers University in 2002. He joined the army for money and skills that, he was told, would help land him a job with the CIA or FBI -- his dream jobs. "Not for patriotism," said his mother, Sue Niederer, who is now an anti-war activist. She advised her son to get the recruiter's promises in writing. When Seth asked, the recruiter told him, "Your mother wears your pants for you?"
Seth, who had no training with explosives, was assigned to find enemy remote-controlled bombs. He would then call in experts to deactivate them.
He was killed by a bomb in February 2004, after five months in Iraq. Below is a conversation with Seth's mother, Sue Niederer:...
>He was apparently not willing to get a job to pay for it >either.
Does noone actually read the posts around here? Third post saying the same thing. The poster was talking about this boy's PARENTS!!! Father! The woman's husband. Not the boy.
I get the impression that her son's widow is the polar opposite of Ms. Niederer. Otherwise we'd hearing from both of them, and we aren't.
I'm willing to give this woman a bit of a pass for being outspoken against the war (losing a son is difficult, especially if you were against his going in the first place), but not for interrupting, indirectly threatening, and wishing harm to The President. My investigation of her indicates that she probably hasn't been an active radical in the past, but more likely got "radicalized" by her son's death and the International ANSWER/Not in Our Name vultures who are probably going after every military family that loses a loved one in Iraq.
One can only hope that 5, 10 or so years from now when we're still free, the Mideast is more peaceful, and terrorists have been marginalized that she might see things differently.
No It doesnt. I imagine the secret service decides whats best in cases like this. I will not second guess their judgment. There is consequence for her words. The presidency is not just a man, it is an office that represents all of us. The death is fresh in her mind, its no excuse of course. Lets hope someday she understands.
Dan Rather has a big thing about interviewing erratic anti-Bush people doesn't he?
Tell that to the last occupants of the World Trade Center.
Even though they are opposed to the war, the Dvorin family sounds all right to me. (Father Richard, Sister Rebekah, Wife Kelly, that is. Mother Sue Niederer is another matter. And it appears Seth spent his last leave with the Dvorins not the Neiderers)
And what's this "didn't join out of patriotism" Sue? Not what his sister says.
Family grieves loss of soldier in Iraq Seth Dvorin, 24,
Rebekah said the family believes Seth was planning to spend his career with the military he graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga., received his commission in January 2003, and also graduated Airborne and Air Defense Artillery schools though Richard said his son realized the dangers of serving.
When asked to relate a story about Seth, Richard wished instead to make some comments about his sons character.
"Seth was the type of boy that any parent hopes to have," he said. "He was kind and courteous, and thoughtful and respectful. He had the ability to adapt to any situation he was in, and saw the best in everyone."
"What a pathetic lot of Americans we have raised up now, spanning decades...more good than bad, but only by a very fine hair..."
It looks like your fine hair is about a 2% difference between the good and the bad, as the last Zogby poll was Bush 46% - Kerry 44%.
Jeez, that isn't grief, that is unstable.
And I credit that slim margin to the act of butchery that RATS insist on perpetrating on the unborn individuals in our society...
Unfortunately some kids believe the Guard is there to subsidize their education and are finding out the hard way that isn't true. Both my kids have heard kids complaining that their units have been called up and it is not fair. Some of these same kids were bragging earlier that they wouldn't owe a dime when they got out of college. Their only reason for joining the Guard was a free education -- know several myself.
Unfortunately in order to read the whole article, I had to go to the original web site. What a putrid place! Sure hope no traces contaminate our computer.
Would not pay for the last two years of their son's education...I have to wonder why??
He wanted to work for FBI or CIA; she was anti-war for years. Any connection to the above?
He joined up..."not for patriotism," ...any connection to above?
She and hubby have established a scholarship account in his name. Guilt for the above?
The entire "interview" came off as typical Liberal hypocrisy, including her "useless" prayers.
"Send soup (sic) deoderant..." etc. to the troops to keep up their morale????
If it wouldn't make her a martyr, I would advocate for her being in a locked mental facility.
And just who would even suggest that a VOLUNTEER would never see combat? Even Kerry did his damnedest not to, and failed. Saw some, anyway; doesn't mean he was in any, any longer than it took to high-tail it back out of.
>>>He was apparently not willing to get a job to pay for it either.
Ummm, is that what he did by joining the Army???
In WWII, they'd never let that get published.
Like you -- it makes no sense to me and probably never will. You join the military and there is absolutely "zero" guarantee that you won't be sent into combat!
So if he didn't want to be in debt, why didn't he choose a community college where he could afford the tuition? And why didn't his mom lend him the money or pay his tuition?
One suspects he joined it the service out of patriotism, but his mom still feels guilty about it, figuring if she hadn't been such a penny pinching cheapskate, he wouldn't have "had" to join the army.
Ergo, she blames Bush. In psychiatry, this is called projection: You can't blame yourself, so you blame someone else.
Seems so PERPETUALLY HONORING THE NAME OF A NEW JERSEY SOLDIER KILLED IN IRAQ
And not just the wife. The rest of the Dvorin family is also rational too Honor the fallen: Army 2nd Lt. Seth J. Dvorin
It's one nutso diovorced mother.
I'm sorry her son was killed. I'm sorry for all the families of dead solders. I am also very sympathetic for the families of the innocent 9-11 victims who never signed up to put their lives on the line, as her son did. The military offers some good benefits for people who are financially challenged, but with that does come a chance you could lose your life; which is why we have a voluntary military.
