I don't think he was defrocked. Rather, the pope issued a rule that priests should not be involved in electoral politics and Drinan had to leave his Congressional post. The man has wrought pure evil and provided the initial "theoretical" underpinnings for the "I'm personally opposed to abortion but" pro-abort politicians from Ferraro to Kennedy to Kerry.
