Post-ban gun sales on the rise

9/18/2004 6:08 PM By: News 14 Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. – Some gun dealers say they are seeing an increase in business now that the ban on assault weapons has expired. They say more people are coming to the stores curious about what they can now buy.

The 10-year ban prohibited the manufacturing of 19 military-style weapons, including AK-47s and Uzis. Dealers say not much has changed because it was always legal to buy, sell or trade the weapons that were produced before the ban.

The ban mainly stopped customers from buying certain accessories that could be used on the weapons they currently owned.

"Soldiers are wanting to buy M-16 variances with collapsible stick which they weren't able to buy before,” said Martin Mancuso of Guns Plus in Cumberland County. “This is something they use at work and they want to reinforce their training. Because even soldiers don't get enough shooting time. They are trying to prepare for war.”

While business has picked up since the ban expired, workers say this increase is minor compared to the days leading up to the ban in 1994.

I would imagine there will be good buys on the guns that had to be modified for the ban

AK-47's were banned from being made? I guess that'll suprise the SAR-1 owners out there.

Seriously though. Everything was still made. They just couldn't put certain features on it and they had to use American parts.

A person with a legal permit to own a weapon, or at least no legal prohibition against his ownership of of a weapon, no longer has the feeling he is a criminal going out to make a buy on a streetcorner on the seedy side of town.

back when I was a cadet in ROTC, I purchased an AR15 for exactly this reason.

Shucks, I bought some SKS's years ago. 25 round mags, with the evil bayonets attached. Should have bought an AK a couple of years ago.

Think I will buy an M-14 now. A Garand would be nice, but the M-14 is an Awesome weapon.

blessings, Bobo

The lib media is all wound up and ready to go. The first post-ban shooting will be blamed on the sunset, no matter the facts.

Count on it.

Ah, give it a bit more time. They'll come out, business will hopefully rise even more before long.

<< humor alert on >> Yep, got my 'surrender gun' right here in the closet, all legal and everything. The good stuff is in in an oil-filled drum buried out back. ;-)

I'm gonna be checking out a LOT of back yards for oil-filled drums, if things get bad..

Hope I get there before the FEDS do..

I know it was a joke, but if it is time to bury them it is time to use them.

Molon labe.
