No Charges Against NJ Woman Who Heckled Mrs. Bush

(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) Police have dropped charges against a Hopewell woman who was arrested when she interrupted a campaign speech by first lady Laura Bush to ask why her son was killed in Iraq.

Sue Sapir-Niederer had refused to leave the Thursday rally at a Hamilton fire house and was eventually escorted from the site. Sapir-Niederer wore a T-shirt that bore the words ``President Bush You Killed My Son'' and a picture of her son, Army 1st Lt. Seth Dvorin.

While he defended police for doing the right thing, Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph L. Bocchini Jr. issued a statement Friday that said police would dismiss the trespass charge.

``It is our determination that the police officers had more than enough probable cause to arrest Ms. Sapir-Niederer and were justified in the their actions,'' said Bocchini. ``Taking all factors into consideration, including the recent loss of her son while serving in the armed forces in Iraq, I believe that the continued prosecution of the this matter would serve no useful purpose.''

Dvorin was killed in February while trying to disarm a bomb in Iraq. The 24-year-old had just returned to Iraq after spending two weeks with his family.

At the campaign rally, the first lady continued speaking after the arrest, touting her husband's record on the economy, health care and the war on terror.

On Friday, New Jersey Democrats criticized Assemblyman Bill Baroni, R-Mercer, for statements he made to The Times of Trenton that Sapir-Niederer ought to ``find something better to do with her time.''

Baroni said Friday that he felt sorry for what Sapir-Niederer had experienced.

``I feel profoundly sorry for Mrs. Niederer and her son is an American hero,'' said Baroni. ``None of us can truly understand what she is going through, and she and her family are in our prayers.''

I'm glad they let her go. The Dems are making too much out of this and now they can shut up about it!

All of the parties involved or their immediate family--including the fallen hero--had raised their hands and sworn to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

I believe that includes the First Amendment.

I would suppose the death of her son has unbalanced this woman.

Her son made his decision to join the military if her son had been a Firefighter who got killed would she blame the Fire Chief. If he had been a Truckdriver would she blame the teamsters?

I kinda think this woman was a rabid Dimowit before her son was killed and she is now using his death for her own purposes.

Very true. Anger is a normal part of the grieving process and can occur at many times and places. DA made the right call to drop charges on a gold star mother.

No, the Bush campaign has used the law of inverse proportionality to their benefit very nicely:)

She was probably a democrat before her son signed up and this sent her over the edge. They did the right thing.

Heckling a speaker is not a 1st Amendment right, though.

I hope and pray that in the end she doesn't come to the conclusion that her son died for "nothing". Obviously her son felt differently and paid the ultimate sacrifice for my family and all of our safety. God Bless him... and may God allow this poor woman to find peace in her heart to honor the memory of her son's sacrifice. We all owe her a debt of gratitude for giving us this fine young soldier and brave honorable man.

If you "google" her she actually stated that she would "shoot W. in the groin over and over"... I believe that it is a crime to threaten the President of the United States. She is on thin ice and has been given a "pass" because of her loss.

I'm sure that she is grieving and angry.

I can empathize (not sympathize) because I would feel very angry at whomever I thought was the cause of my son's death. If she was a lib or a democrat then she doesn't blame the islamofascist terrorists, she would blame our country and its leader.

I honestly wouldn't know what I'd do if my son died... unless you've suffered that loss it's real hard to tell.

I doubt that I'd be as "public" as some of these family members are.... but that's just me.

Let us not blame God or others when we suffer in the loss of a loved one. Grief is something we go through, not hold on to. 'But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethen, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope'. (1Thess 4:13)

I swear the Democrats have been working on these mothers since the first soldier died. They are using the mother's grief. They did that with the 9/11 widows and now these. They are disgusting to do that.

Didn't realize she had crossed the line by making threats. There is absolutely no right to do so and she should be subject to a thorough investigation.

Sally Regnerhard, one of the 9/11 professional widows, accused Rudy Giuliani of killing her son, who was a firefighter. She sounds like a kindred spirit to this woman.

DOVER, Del. - Sue Niederer sought her son's permission before taking part in a protest against the war in Iraq.

Her son, Seth Dvorin, was an Army soldier killed last month about 30 miles south of Baghdad. But Niederer can't quite believe that her 24-year-old boy is gone. She still talks to him.

"I asked his permission to do this," said Niederer, a Pennington, N.J., resident, as she stood outside Dover Air Force Base clutching a poster-sized picture of her son in his dress uniform.

"I said 'If you don't want me to do this, flatten my tires.'" [She told her dead son] "He wants me to do this." [Her dead son did not flatten her tires so he gave her defacto permission?]

Niederer was one of about 600 demonstrators Sunday who marched to the gates of the base to protest the war and complain about restricted access to installations, like Dover, where the bodies of those killed in Iraq are returned.

Sue Niederer in another loss of control:

"I wanted to rip the president's head off. Curse him, yell at him, call him a self-righteous bastard (and a lot of other words). I think if I had him in front of me, I would shoot him in the groined area. Let him suffer. And just continue shooting him there. Put him through misery, like he's doing to everyone else. He doesn't deserve any better." -

I feel sorry for her; she needs to mourn properly. We should pray for her.

Obviously the woman has psychiatric problems and has had them even when her son was alive.
