 The Dawn of New Media

 A New Era of Credibility

A revolution in news

 Bloggers knew!

Blogs: Halting the march of the mainstream media  What is happening is that for the first time in decades, if not ever, the power of the mainstream media (MSM) in the United States is being seriously challenged by a mostly ragtag army of outsiders armed with little more than the internet. The age of the blogger is upon us.
I think of it as a gestalt- the sum of the whole, together, is greater than the parts added separately.

You can't say 'well, the sentiments were correct.'
That's like saying to the bank, 'Well, he owed me money' after forging a check.

The collapse of America's media elite. What qualifications exactly, to be a journalist? -- even non-lawyer bloggers with superior research skills – think Captain Ed, Tom McGuire and Polipundit – are going to run rings around "pros" who aren't in a hurry to bring down their favored candidate.

Big media's fall began with the Clinton Regime. Here was the most corrupt liar ever to occupy the office and the Redstream media attacked the truth tellers instead of the crooks. After watching the nightly news most of my life I stopped watching soon after Clinton was elected.

The Legacy Media Is Mad As Hell and They're Not Going to Take It Anymore -- Michelle Malkin reports that Bertrand Pecquerie (who?!? exactly) says that bloggers are "the sons of McCarthy." And he doesn't mean Charlie. Meanwhile, this just pisses me off. The Tulsa World has sent letters threatening dubious legal action against Oklahoma bloggers for printing excerpts of their stories.
I started to post a lengthy comment here, but I ended up posting it all on my own site: Blogging principles to cover your ass and make sure that what you're excerpting falls under the fair use provision of copyright law. Without knowing more about the specific articles the Tulsa World found to be infringing -- and they don't seem to say -- it looks like they're probably overreaching and trying to cow this blogger into submission.

If I were to follow a particular stream of thought in the blogosphere, I'd call the 'MSM' the 'LM' - the 'Legacy Media', an old dinosaur being beaten into extinction by the nimble feet and jaws of the new wave of news, the bloggers.

Welcome to the age of transparency.

Milbank, Dowd Weigh In on Gannon/Guckert (FR Mentioned) -- " With an estimated 8 million blogs in the US last year and 32 million readers "
Added to the members and lurkers of conservative forums like FR and the millions of listeners to talk radio, there are an enormous amount of people who get their news from the ascendant media .
But, are not allowed any representation at WH briefings and Presidential press conferences.

Bloggers Will Rescue the Right (I think this Brit is overly optimistic about a Brit blogosphere)

American media vs the blogs -- Suddenly, the tools of mass media are in the hands of the public --
Those of the internet FORUMS and blogs are EQUAL to any credentials that the MSM mediots may profess.

I believe our credentials are far above those of journalists.

Let me explain.
(1) We state our opinions. They hide theirs.
(2) We have actual experts on any subject known to man here at FR or at any large blog. Don't believe me? Try making a stupid statement about the mating habits of fruit flies and see how long before a poster who works in the field shows you the error of your ways.:-) The media relies on a limited number of official sources that are usually "politically correct" since they are part of large organizations. Our "experts" are often the worker bees that have the facts uncensored by the PR flacs in their organization.
(3) We get immediate feedback if we say something incorrect.
(4) We love the give and take of debate and disagreement. They hate it. There was a recent show on CSPAN where a group of New York Times reporters stated that they all hated their jobs, hated criticism, hated the blogs, hated the emails. We love FR. What you love you will always do better than someone who hates the task.
(5) We have a better medium with the opportunity to link to other threads, articles, web pages of all kinds. Therefore our communication is more in-depth, more precise, more thoughtful. They are stuck on a piece of paper that links to nowhere.
Now you know why they are very very afraid.

Al Franken Meltdown -- I worked my way through the links and watched the video. While it won't go down in the annals of greatest clips of all times, I do think it's significant in one way. Once again, it shows the incredible power of the blogosphere, alternative media, etc.
