My new column responds to New Yorker editor David Remnick's recent contribution to the growing pile of MSM alarm-sounding in the aftermath of the public's massive rejection of the New York Times/Los Angeles Times decisions to publish stories that help terrorists elude capture.

Powerline's Scott Johnson has more.

And John Podhoretz adds his analysis of Remnick's piece here.

Remnick,  a very accomplished author and serious journalist, may be feeling a little bit of buyer's remorse at taking the New York Times' line that "no harm was done by the June 23 banking story" as details of Eric Lichtblau's past stories begin to emerge.

As John Hinderaker --working from a number of other contributions from bloggers-- has revealed, Eric Lichtblau had not uncovered the Swift program after extensive reporting on the subject as recently as November, 2005.

I am willing to bet that there are tens of thousands of terrorists and terrorists sympathizers who are not as skilled as Mr. Lichtblau in uncovering hidden things, and who also can't read English or have access to high level sources within the American intelligence community.

As has been noted in many places, the master terrorist Hambali was brought down by Swift because he and/or his associates either did not understand how it operated or were unaware of its reach.

Mr. Lichtblau went hunting for details of the Bush Adminstration terror financing program and could not find them eight months ago, concluding that "experts in the field say the results have been spotty, with few clear dents in Al Qaeda's ability to move money and finance terrorist attacks."

It must be increasingly obvious even to New York Times' reporters that the article of June 23 did enormous damage to the United States' ability to "follow the money," a damage that may become complete as countries such as Belgium and Canada review their support for the use of the program data by the CIA.

Lichtblau's, Risen's and Keller's place in journalism history is secure.  Even loyal friends and allies should at this point fall silent.  There is no defense to be made and no counterattack to mount.  They hurt the United States, innocent future victims of terrorists, and media's reputation by telegraphing to terrorists everywhere crucial information on how to dodge the watchers, information that even the New York Times had been unable to detect late last year.

NEWSFLASH: I DIDN'T KILL DENICE DENTON

The blog of the libertarian magazine "Reason" is titled "Hit and Run."

They can run, but they cannot hide. And I'm not going to let them get away with their latest hit.

Last night, Glenn Reynolds linked to this Hit and Run post by David Weigel, who crassly attempts to connect my criticism of UC Santa Cruz's anti-military thugs with the recent suicide of the school's deeply troubled president, Denice Denton.

Weigel accuses me of "smearing" Denton because I simply asked people to take a stand and quoted from a San Francisco Chronicle article reporting that the capitulationist administration knew about the anti-military activists' plans weeks in advance and had hoped that they would be rained out.

Weigel accuses me of throwing around charges of "treason" and "traitors," neither of which I used in any of my blog posts on the anti-recruiting brigade at Santa Cruz. "Seditious," yes. Treasonous, no. Not that it seems to make a difference to Weigel in his quest to label me a reckless labeler. Treason. Sedition. Whatever. Right, Weigel?

And take a look at that shameless last paragraph:

"While no one is suggesting that her readers pushed Denton over the edge..."

Of course, that is exactly what is being suggested:

"...Malkin has said nothing about the chancellor since her suicide. It might become her to apologize for smearing an academic, and directing people to direct their outrage to her office, in what were the final troubled months of her life."

Weigel attacks me for not saying anything about Denton's suicide. Crikey. If I had said anything, his ilk would have jumped all over me for not having the compassion to keep quiet about her various scandals and corruptocrat ways and let her loved ones mourn in peace.

Finally, Weigel wants me to "apologize" for supplying readers with the public office phone number and contact info of a prominent and outspoken public official.

So much for free markets, free minds, and free speech. Are we to withhold criticism now of all public figures because they might be going through "troubled" times and any call for accountability might send them over the edge?

What's so libertarian about that?

***

Here's a passage from the Mercury News' spotlight of Denton's troubled tenure:

I rarely comment- usually just cut & paste a quote describing what I think are the salient points of a link's contents.

Sometimes I quote something I find that reflects my opinions fairly well.

I'm posting this, as a standalone, to illustrate an example of disturbed, nay, malicious and deranged, behaviour by "DrDeb."

I'd call it threatening, stalking and downright sick.

Read all of it, especially the comments, where "DrDeb," posting as southwestpaw, just can't stop spewing nastiness.:

More from the tolerant left

Fresh off this bit from John Wesley Hardin (aka “Lo Ping Wong,” aka “shaved chubby"), I’ve been treated to yet another heaping helping of that famed progressive compassion, this time from someone purporting to be Dr. Debbie Frisch, adjunct instructor of psychology at University of Arizona (formerly of the U or Oregon; all info is taken from her comments, or from the biographical info appended to essays she’s pointed us toward)

I’d like to hear more about your “tyke” by the way. Girl? Boy? Toddler? Teen?  Are you still married to the woman you ephed to give birth to the tyke?

Tell all, bro!

And

[...] as I said elsewhere, if I woke up tomorrow and learned that someone else had shot you and your “tyke” it wouldn’t slow me down one iota.  You aren’t “human” to me.

JEEZ: "Hamsher replied to Althouse's post about civility in public discourse by calling her an idiot and portraying her as a baboon."  Because of this position, Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake, a blogger prominent at the recent YearlyKos meeting, started calling Sen. Lieberman Rape Gurney Joe. Here is a humorous take on the leftist mind. Quite weird, when you really deconstruct it.

It's like seventh grade, in some parts of the blogosphere. Related item here.

UPDATE: The BullMoose observes: "Over and over again, the lefty bloggers contend that their major objective is not an ideological one but rather a partisan one. They claim that they want to win. Badly. The Moose begs to differ. It is not the goal of the left to prevail, but rather to purify." By defeating Joe, they hope to intimidate the '08 wannabees into becoming compliant doves.

Beating up children  ( Dr. Pilon is a retired major with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps, and he is the one who took the famous photographs of drunken young men desecrating the National War Memorial on Canada Day )

Turns out two of three suspects wanted with regards to the desecration of the National War Memorial are juveniles:

Ottawa police say they've identified all three young men who urinated on the National War Memorial during Canada Day celebrations, after photographs of the incident sparked outrage across the country.

Two of the young men are from Ottawa.

"Both are juveniles so they're not releasing their names, and no word yet on whether there will be charges," CTV's Rosemary Thompson told Newsnet Wednesday.

Apparently that makes me someone who promotes the beating of children.

Seriously. Apparently I've am subject of a "gotcha".

That is to laugh.

A 17-year-old is technically a "young offender", not a child. And in any case, when my 5-year-old daughter saw pictures of what they had done, she was horrified. She knew it was wrong. Somehow I think I can hold a 17-year-old to a higher standard than a 5-year-old.

But to cut the desecrators some slack, my daughter had not purchased a fake ID and gotten smashed at a bar.

You know, the kinds of pranks "children" are likely to do.

JEFF GOLDSTEIN ENCOUNTERS the tolerant left. (Note, however, that the identity of the perpetrator is still unconfirmed.) Also, Goldstein was subject to a DOS attack earlier today. In case Glenn Greenwald remains confused, let me be clear that I regard this behavior as not merely a breach of manners, but as actually thuggish. The Internet Jihad

Jeff Goldstein is back and he’s proud, after a pair of DoS attacks took his site offline earlier: protein wisdom.   link: 75 comments

We all know that lefty trolls can be a real inconvenience at times, but a very special troll named Deborah Frisch has taken trolling down a very dark road.  Jeff Goldstein is the very insightful conservative blogger who writes at Protein Wisdom and Dr. Frisch (did I mention she's a psych[o] professor at the University of Arizona?) has repeatedly and quite disturbing levied DEATH THREATS against Jeff's 2 year old child.  Much like Robert Fisk of "fisking" fame, Frisch ought to become her own unique internet verb for a deranged troll/cyber stalker.

Comment below written by: Michael Andreyakovich

Just submitted this to Urban Dictionary:

"FRISCH: To invalidate your position in an online debate by making thinly veiled threats against the life or sexual dignity of your opponent, their spouse or their child."

Posted by: Michael Andreyakovich | Jul 8, 2006 3:23:21 AM

UPDATE: I just spoke with Jeff by phone and he informed me his site is currently under two (2) Denial of Service attacks at this time.  Apparently, some elements of the psychotic left are closing ranks around Dr. Frisch and seemingly approve of her tactics of threatening children with death and sexual abuse.  Nice going.

UPDATE 2: I just spoke to a representative of the U of AZ Psychology Department and confirmed that Dr. Frisch is a faculty member at the school.  I asked to file a formal complaint and gave my contact info and am awaiting a call from the Department Head, Al Kazniak. If you would like to do the same here is the contact information:

Deb seems to want us to believe that her rhetoric in this instance was an oh-so-ironic way of criticizing her treatment.

Too bad she's got a blog. After reading through a few posts, it's clear her comments to Jeff Goldstein are not an anomaly at all. Here's what she had to say after the London subway bombings

"Islamofascists. I like it. Kissing cousins of christofascists like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and DeLay and judeofascists like Zackheim and Sharon.

I am not happy that more widows, widowers and amputees were created yesterday. I don't think the people riding the London subway yesterday morning deserved to be blown up because of the war crimes committed by George Bush and condoned by Tony Blair.

But I am glad that someone said phuque you to bush, blair and the other hombres who represent (sic) the G-8 nations."

Invective is her style, not her response to criticism.

Blogger Threatens Jeff Goldstein’s Two-Year-Old Son

Filed under: General, Scum — Patterico @ 12:00 am

Dear God.

Some blogger — a psychology professor, no less — has made threatening comments about Jeff Goldstein’s son. Just to take one example:

[…] as I said elsewhere, if I woke up tomorrow and learned that someone else had shot you and your tyke it wouldnt slow me down one iota. You arent human to me.

[…]

So if you could just tell me the AGE and SEX of your tyke, Id be stoked!

Thanx!

Lord.

This woman has problems. How would you like to be one of her students?

Jeff has much, much more.

Unfortunately.

P.S. My friend Roberta says I don’t blog about my kids enough. My wife says I blog about them, and our personal life, altogether too much. This is a good example of why my wife says this — and why she may be right.

UPDATE: Jeff’s site has been under a DoS attack (two, actually) for much of the day.

How curious.

The reason JeffG didn’t ban her is because she was begging for it. So, we started ignoring her taunts and she ramped it up all out of control.

That’s when I went a googling and found out this is a pattern. She stalked my Cotillion sister, Cassandra for weeks, alternately begging Cass to ban her and saying things like Cass’ husband was a babykiller, or being rational.

Sometimes It’s Just Too Damn Hard To Practice The Tolerance They Preach

Case Study: Deb Frisch, Professor of Psychology at the University of Arizona, who wishes death upon Jeff Goldstein’s kid. Strangely I can’t find anything at the U of Arizona website about her, which means they’ve probably already shipped her crazy ass off to a remote 2-year community college, where she’ll still be underqualified.

Some of her uber-tolerant comments towards Goldstein:

Yep, the left is all about love, peace and tolerance. Until they take their masks off. And this twat is teaching some form of “psychology” to impressionable little college babes. The hate of the intellectual lefty elite knows no bounds, once you strip away the cheap aluminum siding. It’s even worse when they’re routinely evicerated by Jeff, who often proves to be their intellectual superior - this sends them into a blazing apoplexy from which most of them never recover.

Protein Wisdom appears to be down at present, but when it’s back up, read more here.

(h/t Ace)

Froggy (now at BlackFive) has a whole lot more - apparently the piece of shit loves the publicity. Hopefully she’ll love her visits with law enforcement as well.

Also note that Beth has opened up a can of whoop-ass--- here’s your new reason to add to the list: Psychotic professors. Or should I say, one more psychotic professor (or, failed professor, and I can see why) to add to that list. Unbelievably, this vile, dangerous (child predator), pathetic waste of oxygen has all her professional information made freely available all over the internets, including her blog–which displays her psychosis for all to see. (UPDATE: Since (as of the moment) you can’t get to Protein Wisdom to see it, Froggy at Blackfive has her vile shit posted.) Sadly, I’m also going to be contributing to her sudden spike in traffic, but her blog is so hilariously bad that you have to see it. --- on this jackball, and Ace is having a Deb Frisch poetry slam.

UPDATE:

Smantix provides the following excellent observations in the comments (so good I had to drag them up here):

That would be adjunct faculty.

Wow. Just a google search of her name turns up a sick bitch whose blazed a trail of hate going back years.

Here’s an on-campus number for an Edward G. Frisch at AU’s Office of Academic Affairs.
520-621-7766

Related? Who knows?

Unless her extension has changed - she may be found @ 541 520 2929.

She’s a “skeptic” who doesn’t believe in God but that if she did, he’d be a woman. Typical gyno offshoot of cuntcentric theory.

Enjoy!

Here she is in Counterpunch on the brave 9/11 terrorists, how right Ward Churchill is and how we’re all little Eichmanns. Why isn’t Pat Buchanan writing for these guys yet?

So there is nothing absurd or outrageous about using the term “Eichmann” to refer to the stockbrokers who died that day. It’s a little strange to completely ignore the firefighters, secretaries and building maintenance workers who died that day. And singling out the stockbrokers and ignoring the firefighters dehumanizes them the same way Nazis dehumanized Jews.

I agree with Churchill that America was not an “innocent victim” on 911. I’m tempted to agree that “titans” of finance are more guilty than the rest of us. But even though they’re better compensated than the rest of us, they’re no more guilty, really. We’re all little Eichmanns. Only the far left is willing to admit it.

This is the thought process of a Doctor of anything?

Looks like someone’s already been there, done that.

You think anybody with a penis that wasn’t attached as part of gender reassignment surgery gets a fair break in a class “taught” by this bitch?

You’ll be joining Ward “Dishonest Injun” Churchill in the unemployment line soon enough you looney twat.

Interestingly, Deb Frisch seems to be a real pro at making threats:

"I used to work in the psychology department at the University of Oregon. When the quacks (=ducks+psychologists) denied me tenure, the only way I could fight it was to allege discrimination on the basis of sex and/or sexual orientation. Although my main nemesis frequently made inappropriate comments regarding these two topics, at the time, I wasn't sure I’d been discriminated against."

"The majority of people who are denied tenure either fight or leave. Although I didn’t want to fight, I also didn’t want to leave. So I finegeled a demotion. One of the quacks was famous and had a lot of clout with the administration. I told him that if he could arrange for me to continue teaching for a few years, I wouldn’t sue and embarrass his crony. "

(Via Violet, who also links a post from Professor Bainbridge documenting other ad hominem invective from Frisch.)

It just won't stop:

http://www.professorbainbridge.com/2005/02/ucla_faculty_di.html

Update: Deborah Frisch continues stalking my site, sending trackbacks to multiple posts to link to ad hominem attacks. While I appreciate the boost to my TTLB Ecosystem link score, I'm not giving the [rhymes with witch] access to my site. Hence, she is the first and only person whose trackbacks I am routinely deleting from my site. (After her offensive emails, I've also added her to my email filter blocks.)

.

Update: One more email from a reader to share:

I realize that you are finished taking notice of Deb Frisch's "mistakes and misrepresentations" - and with good reason - but I happened to read your first post about her yesterday and after looking around her website was truly appalled by this post that appears to now be removed from the main page and archives of her website but which I have the archived link to because I forwarded it to my girlfriend (we were both in your Business Associations class while at UCLA). I have no idea if you've seen this diatribe. [Prof B: Yep. I saw it.]

At first I thought it was simply an example of the how, while the internet has provided an invaluable resource for gathering information outside of the mainstream media, it also encourages those who are so inclined to be wildly uncivil.  After doing a little poking around though, and discovering that this lady is a professor in the psychology department at the University of Arizona, I was genuinely disturbed.  First, the childish nature of her insults directed at you are really striking coming from an educator.  Second, she proudly belittles the idea that you would expect accuracy from her (i.e., not claiming that you had taken a position on the Summers brouhaha that you hadn't).  Does the UofA really want professors to whom accuracy is to be mocked?  Third, as if to prove how unconcerned she is with accuracy, she attributes to you a quote from a Charles Krauthammer column that you (admittedly approvingly) had partially reproduced on your site without acknowledging that's what she had done.  Fourth, and far and away the worst, she mocks the idea of Christianity without any humor whatsoever, and proudly puts forth the idea that one cannot be a decent professor if one believes in God, Jesus or presumably any other deity.

I enjoy reading your blog, but I am not religious and am a political moderate.  However, I don't see how anyone could fail to be worried about the fact that this woman is influencing students at a large university (in the Pac-10 no less!).

Unfortunately, being shrill, careless, and intellectually dishonest appears to be no barrier to academic success. Equally unfortunately, they're also qualities that will appeal to a certain segment of the blogosphere. In any case, what we have here is what Jonah Goldberg referred to the other day as "one of those fun Internet fights between two people who do not like or respect each other." As I noted above, however, life's too short to waste on such people.

He--and his toddler son--have been the subject of abuse and harassment from a nutball leftist troll, who appears to hold a prominent teaching position at the University of Arizona and seems to have a history of abusing and stalking blogs. Some of the messages she left for Jeff: ( XXXX -- you have seen it enough... )

Sick. Just sick.

After Jeff blew the whistle on the troll's messages, his site crashed as a result of two DDOS attacks. The site remains down as of this morning. Jeff has been the target of unique unhingedness from the Left. His bold eloquence, sharp wit, and willingness to engage the other side have gotten under their skin. Drop him a note of support if you have a spare moment: jeff-at-proteinwisdom.com.

Update 11:49 Eastern....I'm going to try and confirm this, but here is a post on the blog of University of Arizona professor Deb Frisch (hat tip: Greg at OTB)

white flag

I wrote some inflammatory comments at a blog by a guy named Jeff Goldstein called protein wisdom that infuriated many bloggers and commenters. Many of these bloggers emailed my boss at the University of Arizona to tell on me.

In hindsight, the things I wrote were over the line of nastiness. I apologize to Mr. Goldstein.

I have resigned from the University of Arizona so there is no need for other enraged people to write to administrators there.

In true moonbat-style, she goes on to portray herself as the victim.

UPDATE: Well, this was quick -- apparently the University of Arizona doesn't mess around. The administrators started getting e-mails from Jeff's readers, and now Frisch admits to the threats and has resigned, according to her blog. In her post, titled "white flag", she blames Jeff for her woes:
UPDATE II: The Instapundit cautions us not to assume it's Frisch, even with the blog post on her site, noting that people can still spoof identities easily enough on line. In this case, it seems like a long shot; Frisch has archives going back as long as mine. It is possible that someone hacked her site and posted this under her name, but that seems pretty farfetched. It's not impossible, however.

Attacking Bloggers' Children? Despicable (Updated)

Jeff Goldstein, who has always been a friend to CQ from its earliest days, has found himself and his family the target of some despicable threats, apparently from an academic at the University of Arizona. This series of e-mails allegedly came from Deb Frisch, a professor of psychology at Arizona with some history of on-line histrionics:

Comments (10)  "I just love the Net and how it adds volume to the freaks, who think "if only they could be heard by more people."
Hey, we hear them now."

JEFF GOLDSTEIN'S SITE is still under DOS attack. Background is here.

I encourage people not to be too positive about the perpetrator's identity until there's some sort of outside confirmation.

UPDATE: Here's a blog post with an apology. The domain shows as registered to the right person, in Tucson Arizona. Nonetheless, on the Internet you can't be entirely sure about identities, something that's worth remembering.

ANOTHER UPDATE: But apparently she's got some blog-stalking history with Bainbridge.

"FRISCHED:" UNHINGED ACADEMIC OF THE YEAR

Just received from the University of Arizona regarding Jeff Goldstein's blog stalker, Deborah Frisch:

Michelle,

I have word from the head of Human Resources here that Deborah Frisch has tendered her resignation.

Jeff Harrison
University Communications
The University of Arizona

I haven't been able to get through yet, but Protein Wisdom is reportedly back online.

Frisch says she is headed to Eugene, Oregon--where she has apparently taught in the past. Schools up there might want to know why she's leaving Arizona.

***

Froggy at Blackfive says a new Internet verb is born:

To Frisch: Writing something on the internet so creepy and offensive that you are forced to quit your job before getting canned. Ex. Deb really frisched herself when she threatened that blogger's 2 year old child with death and sexual molestation.

Blackfive adds:

If you would like to donate to help Protein Wisdom move to a new server and hosting site, you can visit PayPal and use proteinwisdom-at-celluloid-wisdom.com as the Recipient's Email Address.

***

Take a look at some of Frisch's other rantings online:

- Defending Ward Churchill. She thinks he's "brilliant."

- Happy about the 7/7 bombings:

I don't think the people riding the London subway yesterday morning deserved to be blown up because of the war crimes committed by George Bush and condoned by Tony Blair.

But I am glad that someone said phuque you to bush, blair and the other hombres who represent (sic) the G-8 nations.

- And one big question of the day: Why is the FBI listening to this woman? Dan Riehl points to Frisch's participation in an FBI counterterrorism conference. Ace responds appropriately. Jeremy B. has the creeps. Check out her 9/11 conspiracy theorizing.

***
Previous today: A blogger under siege

***

More: Jim Hoft - Threatening children nothing new for the unhinged Left

Dan Riehl has some wise words for the unhinged Left, not that they'll listen:

No public servant, military man or woman, public school teacher, or even corporate employee would be able to make such remarks without some serious consequences. At the very least, they would likely be mandated to attend some form of counseling, or possible psychiatric evaluation - and it is, first and foremost, the Left which fosters the kind of thought policing today which makes that so.

Deborah Frisch is not a victim in this. She is a well-educated, experienced, professional adult. Over time she has apparently displayed a consistent irresponsible, if not genuinely disturbed, pattern of behavior in and around political discourse while on line.

She resigned either out of instability, or a desire to not face the consequences for her actions in this latest incident.

Juliette at Baldilocks wants answers about the DDOS attacks.

More: The rationalizations continue--and Frisch is enjoying the attention. Guess it's therapeutic.

Pajamas Media bids happy trails to the "The Tonya Harding of the Blogosphere."

Bill at Pundit Guy wants to close the book on this Frisch matter, but I don't see why anyone should rush to get this over with when there are many unresolved issues at hand--not least of all, the identity of the DDOS attackers who tried to shut jeff up and whether a crime/crimes were committed.

Patterico notes that Frisch's gums are still flapping.

UPDATE 2 - Protein Wisdom is back.

Here, she readily admits to extorting employment via threats of a sexual discrimination suit against U of Oregon, and of smearing the dept head:

June 20, 2005
psychologist, analyze thyself
In the winter of 1988, I was 26 and finishing up my Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania. I interviewed for a job in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon. I met with the department head, a well-known social psychologist whose specialty was stereotypes. We were having a free-ranging, pleasant conversation in his third floor office when he said "Why do lesbians try to make themselves unattractive to men?"

This would turn out to be the first of many encounters with Myron "Mick" Rothbart that left me flabbergasted and irritated. But I hid my disgust (how pathetically egocentric to think that lesbians would waste energy UNattracting men, instead of focusing on attracting women!) and responded, "Maybe there's a different standard of what counts as attractive."

You might find it queer that a psychologist who studies stereotypes would have such strange stereotypes. But there's more than a grain of truth in the stereotype that psychologists study things that are problematic for them. For example, I study decision making and have a lot of trouble making decisions. I feel ambivalent about most decisions. And most people I know (including me) would say I have a tendency to make bad decisions.

One bad decision I made was not suing the quacks when they denied me tenure. The only way to sue was to accuse them of discrimination on the basis of sex and/or sexual orientation. I had a good case - Mick had lobbied effectively against me, in spite of the fact that my committee (headed by Paul Slovic, a leader in decision psychology) and Mike Posner (a leader in psychology) had supported me. (Mick was a VERY effective lobbier, as I would see ten years later when he (unbelievably) got the department to elect an unqualified male over an extremely qualified female candidate for department head.)

One day, I went to Mike Posner and said I was thinking of suing the department and alleging discrimination. I pointed out that this would entail going into detail about all of the sexually inappropriate things Mick had said over the years. I told Mike that if he would arrange for me to have two years of adjunct teaching (in addition to the seventh year people denied tenure automatically got), I wouldn't sue. Mike had ENORMOUS clout with the administration and with his help, I finegled a demotion. ...

UPDATE III: Jeff's site is back on the air, so to speak, so we can all enjoy Protein Wisdom yet again. In reading through the comments, I notice that we are quick to blame liberals (and for some strange reason, lesbians) for this kind of behavior. Let me state once more that this has nothing to do with political points of view and everything to do with a seriously damaged sense of judgment and perhaps some emotional problems. Most liberals (and lesbians) I know are decent, well-mannered people who do not deserve to get lumped in with the Deb Frisches of the world. I give you Jeralynn Merritt for a case in point (via Allahpundit at Hot Air).

Let's remember that before we start painting with wide brushes here -- and let's refrain from attempting to guess someone's sexual preferences, especially when it has no relation to the topic.

UPDATE IV: Let's not get wild on this idea of requiring a response from everyone in the blogosphere on this story. Deb Frisch is responsible for her actions -- not Mahablog, nor any other left-wing blogger who never linked or blogrolled Frisch in the first place. The "crickets chirping" on the Left just means that they probably don't read Jeff or Deb Frisch. Posted by Captain Ed at 10:43 AM | Comments (29)

I wish I moved in your circles. Most liberals I know are hateful intolerant bigots who respond to logic & reason with emotional temper tantrums. The Protein Wisdom saga continues.  Jeff Goldstein's site has been down for a bit due to hackers, and believe me I know the feeling.  You will recall that I was hacked and shut down for approx 6 hours after my extensive CIA Mole post.  While that was upsetting, apparently Jeff's hacker is a stalker also.  She has even gone so far to threaten his child: (via Michele Malkin)

Blackfive has even more examples of her comments:

She supposedly lost her job (not verified yet) and in true psycho fashion painted herself as the victim :

How many times have I pointed out in previous posts how unhinged these people are, the post I wrote last night highlights jsut such an example from a "professional" writer.

Check out her post after the London Subway bombing:

Yesterday she commented at Blackfive, once again painting herself as the victim;

Quite a fantasy world, anyone who visits Jeff's blog knows the behavior she is alleging is just not true.  Kind of hard to prove it when the site is down, how convenient.  Jeff responds:

You can check out her first appearance at Protein Wisdom via google cache here.  Quite amusing, and scary to think this person teaches our youth.

But we can do more then just highlight their psychotic behavior.  As Blackfive notes:

UPDATE III 07/08/06 1630hrs PST

Guess who is now trying to rewrite history while at the same time claiming she was the victim in all this?

Check out this whole series of comments here where she posts as Lefty.  It all began because she called Prof. Bainbridge a closet homosexual:

UPDATE V 07/08/06 1750hrs PST

Michelle Malkin has received a e-mail from the University of Arizona that Deb Frisch has indeed resigned:

UPDATE VI 07/08/06 2335hrs PST

She's not done yet.  Here she updates us with the old, tired and idiotic excuse "what I said was bad, but hey, Bush is evil so I am not so bad……mmmmmkay"

Oh, btw….here is a picture of Ms. Fitsch taken from the Arizona Daily Star:

The caption reads:

Cecile McKee, left, a UA faculty member, has started looking for work where she can get benefits for partner Deborah Frisch.

Yup, that's a child in the background.  I honestly fear for that child's safety.

Jeff's site is back up since this afternoon and he has posted his thoughts:

The Blogosphere vs. Deb Frisch
Saturday July 08th 2006 | Filed under: Politics, Personal

I don’t blog Internet drama. I know people love it but I don’t. But this is a good one. Michelle Malkin writes:

A sample comment from this woman:

Ooh. Two year old boy. Sounds hot. You live in Colorado, I see. Hope no one Jon-Benets your baby.

Are you still married to the woman you humped to produce the toddler?

It gets worse. David Horowitz would have a field day with this case.

LOUDER PLEASE…THE CRICKETS ARE CHIRPING
CATEGORY: Politics, Ethics

By now, you’ve probably been made aware of the despicable attack on Jeff Goldstein’s family from a University of Arizona professor of psychology named Deb Frisch. If you’ve been out of circulation lately, you can get the story from Blackfive here.

After picking my jaw up off the floor, I decided to see if any liberals were taking her to task in the comments to the post. Here’s one:

You really succeeded in making liberals look like psychopaths. Can you do the rest of us a favor, and either stop posting entirely, of join the Republican Party?

Well…it’s a start. Kit, one of the hosts of Wideawakes Radio (WAR Radio) which is set to re-launch tomorrow morning summed it up nicely in her comments:

You post a large number of comments on a conservative blogger’s site that not only make references to killing, but also sexually abusing his 2-year-old child. (And that’s not counting the insults to his wife.)

When confronted by a number of readers and bloggers from both sides of the aisle, you post this drivel that portrays you as a sad, penitent victim, violated by the teeming masses of rabid conservatives who like nothing better than roasted moonbat. You forgot one thing.

You started all of this.

As I mention in the post, this story was out there for 48 hours (6th story from the bottom of Memorandum on early Friday morning) and nary a peep of condemnation was heard from anyone on the left until Confederate Yankee’s post about the silence of the left on this issue was disseminated. Then, there were mostly mild rebukes of Frisch made in passing with the real thrust of most lefty writings being that they shouldn’t have to “apologize” for Frisch and that conservatives do it too, or do it worse.

Deb Frisch Participated In FBI Counterterrorism Conference?

– Ace

Huh? Wha? Fut the wuck?

What did she contribute, exactly? Her theories that 9/11 was an inside job? If so, why tell the FBI? Presumably they were in on it.

She links this conspiracy film about the Pentagon strike as well.

Hokay... I hope that is my very last Frisch post, and the last time I'll even have to write that name.

But I suspect it won't be.

I Already Lied: Sorry. Talk Left condemns She Who Won't Be Named, but that's easy-peasey, as apparently she considers Goldstein a friend.

Many of her readers, however, are not about to stop defending the indefensible. After all, they've had so much practice getting good at it.

It's what they do. It's all they do.

On one hand, what she wrote was wrong. But, on the other hand, it was only word. How many dead Iraqi mothers,American and Iraqi fathers, and Iraqi children are conservatives responsible for?

Ah. The Iraq War justifies pretty much anything. Children are just ammo in the war for America's soul. Or something.

This is what happens when you visit these sites and try to take them on in a debate. The discussion rapidly deteriorates. This person screwed the pooch big time. She let them get to her. For the background on this story, see yesterday's post here

Jeff at Protein Wisdom is now under another DoS attack, with his new hosting company.  It appears Deb Frisch, who earlier yesterday put up a white flag and admitted she screwed up, is now claiming the opposite as you can see in the updated sections of my earlier post here.  Today she's upset that a commentor to Jeff's site had the gall, the unmitigated gall, to suggest that Jeff should defend his family against an attack.  In her words:

For some added comedy check out this lefty blog where the writer say's, get this, that while Frisch's behavior is bad Michelle Malkin deserves even more scorn because she may or may not have contributed to the death of Denice Denton.

Get that?

Me neither:

UPDATE 07/09/06 2040hrs PST

Big hat tip to Chad at Independent Sources who found the true context of the comment Deb Frisch points to in her post as a threat to her:

And the Frisching Goes On

by Emperor Darth Misha I

Yes, yes, I know. I really should quit rubbernecking at that trainwreck, but it’s just too damn fascinating.

When last we left the Poster Child for Post-Partum Abortion, it had just been confirmed that she had, indeed, tendered her resignation.

After her “un-apology” where she wrapped herself up in victimhood and her subsequent “I really meant to resign anyway” clarification post, she then went on to trolling LC & IB Ace’s site, asking him to pretty please with sugar on top get in touch with the meanies at Blackfive for her so that her public information could be removed from the site. After having been petted, cuddled and encouraged in the comments to this post, voice #2,225 in her head took over again and she went right back to being as unapologetic as she could, gushing with joy and anticipation of maybe appearing in a phone interview on FOX.

Some are now starting to come around to defending the unhinged Deb Frisch.

Update: Goldstein’s site isn’t loading for me now. Another DOS?

Update: Yep. JG just e-mailed.

Update: Jeff sends along a pair of comments that didn’t make it to the front page before the site went down.

Get over it Jeff. Stop making a big deal over this petty issue. You’re the one showing your hairy ass.

Fuck you Jeff. The day I wave the U.S. flag with pride is when the Democrats win the White House and Congress. Until then, I raise it upside down in distress.

I agree with everything Dr. Frisch said about you. I hope the next plane you fly on crashes.

Better still:

Like you facist hypocrites never send threats to liberals. Jeff, you got everything you deserved. At least Dr. Frisch didn’t go around pushing the UC-Santa Cruz chancellor to suicide like your chipmunk-faced chink bitch friend Michelle Malkin.

Only conservative fags like to play the victim. You have a small dick.

I guess we’ll never know if these are genuine, now that “the raw data” has been “hidden” again.

Update: Quoth Bill: “Achieving Malkinesque levels of hate mail is a noteworthy event; achieving Malkinesque levels of hate mail that actually reference Malkin, racism and chimpmunks has got to be some sort of milestone in the annals of online animus.”

In case you all missed this -

To frisch. Yes, she is now a verb.

Drain Bamage.--Let me repeat that last part in case you thought I was kidding.

An adjunct professor of psychology, Deb Frisch, proceeded to make repeated death threats against Jeff's two year old son.

Frisch's name has already been established as a verb - never a good sign for the named individual.

Many of the leading sites are silent on the matter, and some have actually taken to blaming Jeff for the situation - even to the point of claiming that Jeff was making things up or taking email out of context. Confederate Yankee has the details in a pretty thorough posting on the matter. Welcome to 21st Century USA, where every day is Halloween...the horror, the horror of Deb's blog--It's Jeff's fault! It's Count Chocula's fault! It's the fault of intolerant rightwingers, who don't appreciate Deb's zippy sense of humor, and, anyway, Michelle Malkin, that evil (fill your own racial epithet) person says bad things too, and why is everybody, including Fox News, picking on poor Deb?

The Drudge Report just posted this story. It's big now.

At Inside Higher Ed, an article about the psychotic psychology teacher Deborah Frisch ridiculously understates Frisch’s despicable comments and threats against Jeff Goldstein’s child: Crossing a Line.

Frisch is now fully in “I’m a victim, look at me!” mode.

"Frisch is relying on sites like this one to suggest that she is a victim. Don’t let her get away with it. Frisch’s apology was immediately followed by a walking back of that apology...

Inside Higher Ed has a article on the brouhaha involving noted lunatic Deb Frisch. Very fair and balanced. Out of an approximately 700 word article, here is how Goldstein's side of the story is described:

Goldstein could not be reached for comment. But he posted details of Frisch’s comments and his reaction to them on his Web site.

About 3% of the story, but I guess it's quality, not quantity. Jeff has a response up at Protein Wisdom. I am taking the liberty of reproducing it below in case the link doesn't work due to the DoS attacks. (Before I do, I want to note two things. First, the Inside Higher Ed story states "...Frisch is known for going on conservative sites she abhors and engaging in debate." This is laughable if you are at all familiar with her comments. Besides the comments at the post that started it all, there are comments she's left at other sites that run the gamut from infantile through moronic all the way to bug-eyed screaming. The second thing I'd like to note is that I think that Gail Hapke's description of DoS attacks as "Denial of Speech" attacks is quite apt. The DoS attacks are shameful in their own right, though that aspect is overshadowed by Frisch's

Frisch removes offensive image, continues commenting

Former UA psychology professor Deborah Frisch has updated her blog with a link here per my request. I figure the readers who see her response to me ought to be able to see my response back. Moreover, the post containing the image of "Count Cockula" is gone as I and others suggested, and Frisch continues to blog about the Goldstein affair, breaking her original promise not to comment on it for a month.

Perhaps "Walking in Memphis" might be an appropriate post if (and only if) she is truly sorry, but then she talks about forming a "discussion group" formed of those "fascinated by the workings of the mind of the count." Somehow, it seems Dr. Frisch still thinks she's blameless enough in all this to justify forming a discussion group of "moonbats" (Frisch's words) to figure out exactly why Jeff Goldstein isn't happy about how she has treated him and his family before and after the newsbreak. Clearly, the apology to Mr. Goldstein still isn't very sincere, and I am personally questioning the true sincerity of her apology to the university community as well.

Frisch responds to my criticism

Former UA psychology professor Deborah Frisch has responded to a critical comment I made on one of her posts.

Update 2: The Arizona Daily Star has picked up on the story. This story thankfully looks more objective than the Inside Higher Ed article, which received much criticism from the right, including from Goldstein himself (see previous posts).

INSIDE HIGHER ED has a story on the Frisch/Goldstein affair that seems to me to understate Frisch's conduct somewhat. Jeff Goldstein -- whose site still seems to be down -- has posted a response in the comments. It's a long way down, so I'm reproducing it here. Click "read more" to read it.

UPDATE: More background regarding threats on campus.

Hi Jeff.

You allowed someone to post a picture of me at home. Given the many, many threats I have received from your fans, this is not acceptable.  I perceive it as a physical threat.

Please delete the link to the picture.

Thanks,

Deb

Oh, btw….here is a picture of Ms. Fitsch taken from the Arizona Daily Star:

More Lefty love & tolerance

A small handful of people, not at all representative of the so-called “mainstream”? As Allah says, it’d be nice to think so, but…I don’t. And neither does the Commissar.

--Any questions, people? For this depraved woman and others like her, politics justifies all — because for them, as I keep saying, politics IS all. It’s their religion, the source of their identity, the core of their self-image, and the practical basis for how they deal with the rest of the world.

Update! The origins of a pathology.

Updated update! In the usual inimitable AoSHQ fashion, Ace has…oh, just go read it yourself, already.

The Straw? --I thought the storm would have abated by now, but it hasn’t.  Jeff’s site is still down with another attack, and people are still defending the original commenter with the wildly relevant and appropriate statements that “Michelle Malkin said…” and “Rush Limbaugh…”, etc., etc.

There is the old saying about the straw that broke the camel’s back.  As a kid I had often wondered how a simple straw could do that.  As an adult I can see the metaphor better.  There are events that happen that, small though they may be, let loose bigger events.  This may be one of those.  The Blogosphere came of age after the 2000 elections and more so after the 9/11 attacks. All this hullabaloo because someone didn’t like what the father of a two-year-old posted on his own site.  Unbeleivable.  A toddler turned out to be the proverbial straw.

Two liberals respond -- one smart and one useful idiot

Compare and contrast.

Oh, and one of the two respondents is Professor Deb Frisch herself.

What we ought to be hearing from bona fide liberals:

I'm late coming to the story of the psychology professor and Jeff Goldstein of Protein Wisdom, but here's my view: What Deborah Frisch wrote is inexcusable behavior for a blogger of any kind, liberal or conservative. Her comments about Jeff Goldstein's son and wife are indeed unhinged. I cannot imagine any provocation that could justify them.

If you don't like Jeff's writings, don't read them. Or read them and disagree with his arguments.

I have never heard of Deborah Fisch before today, or her blog. Whether she is a liberal blogger or not, she is not a member of any group I am aware of or want to be associated with. She speaks for herself and very poorly.

Talkleft is as liberal as they get. The Iraq war is illegal, Camp X should be taken down, Karl Rove is a danger to democracy, and so on and so forth.

Fair enough.

But to disagree with criminal defense attorney Jeralyn Merritt is not to invite death threats against your family. Even though he's a lawyer with strong views on freedom of speech (he supports the decision of the New York Times to reveal details of the Operation Swift anti-terrorist program, for example), he has no problem characterizing Deb Frisch as "unhinged" and her comments "inexcusable".

Got that? No excuses. No mealy mouthed references to what someone else might have said to justify Frisch's comments, or at least to distract criticism. No flaccid attempts to minimize the gravity of what she had done by measuring it against the perceived short attention span of her critics.

And he points out that her behaviour is wrong for both liberals and conservatives. Merritt believes, quite rightly, that there are things that are universally wrong. Frisch should not get a free pass because she took aim at a "paste eating" right winger.

Merritt has his head screwed on right. It might be filled with some silly ideas, but at least I know that in his world, the sky is blue, children are precious, and people who are wrong need to be confronted.

There are other liberals, however, who aren't as centred as Merritt. One example is Deb Frisch herself, who quite shockingly, has posted to my blog. I'll never stop being amazed at who reads my stuff:

What I said was: I wouldn't care if someone Ramseyed your kid.

Is that really the most tasteless, vulgar, rude, nasty joke ever to be posted in the bowels (i.e., comments section) of the blogosphere?

Probably not. But then I haven't ventured through the archives of your friend Robert McClelland's blog, so who knows what vile little nuggets are tucked away in there.

What you said is that the murder of the child of someone you disagreed with would not bother you:

Ooh. Two year old boy. Sounds hot. You live in Colorado, I see. Hope no one Jon-Benets your baby.

Maybe it isn't the most tasteless, vulgar, rude, nasty joke ever posted, but then this isn't a contest. You don't win a reprieve because you came in second in a race to spew bile. To give you the benefit of the doubt, though, I don't know what circles you run in. Perhaps the people you used to hang out with in the University of Arizona staff lounge routinely exchanged jokes like this one. Or maybe your friends and members of your family would think that was a particularly clever jest.

If not, though, you should consider the embarrassing effect your words have had on your former co-workers and on your family and friends. Clearly you still don't care about the effect it has had on Jeff Goldstein, or on people who happen to count themselves as Goldstein's political allies, since in your comment to me, you didn't actually apologize to him or to them.

My advice? Don't take solace in what support you are getting from the likes of Robert McClelland. You've become their useful idiot, goaded into taking this untenable stand instead of doing the right thing and offering an unreserved apology. Don't let yourself be a shield behind which they hide. Take back what you said, and force them to either retreat or stand on their own hind legs and claim you were right to say what you said, your apology notwithstanding.

That's my advice, for what it's worth. Good luck, Professor Frisch. I really hope you find your back from whatever dark place you find yourself right now.

Frisch was hoping that the two-year-old son of a conservative blogger would be murdered or sexually abused, posting her comments at Protein Wisdom under the handle "Southwestpaw".
