Cozumel in February for scuba diving!

You sir, just convinced me to never visit or spend my money on your island.

Government personnel are liaising with supermarkets.

Furthermore, I'm against helping anyone who takes a French noun,"liaison", drops a few letters adds the English suffix (ing) and uses it as a verb. Way too damn high-falutin' for the likes of me.

1 - Seems to me they need to tax all those tax free corporations headquartered there to pay for the mess.

They don't need a military to control looters.

They just need armed citizens.

I heard it's all about building an oil pipeline across the island.

I was waiting for the Nigerian bank account sharing hoax to be tied into this message.

I was about to say that the wealthy tax evaders on Grand Cayman should take their tax free funds and enjoy the rebuilding effort.

The American tax payer is carrying enough of the load.

Our military is busy enough as it is. Go ask someone else for help. I'm sick and tired of the world criticizing the US but when trouble occurs we're the first ones they run to for help. The 'closed' sign should be hung out for awhile.

Anyone who has been in an area hit by a cat 4 or 5 hurricane understands that civilization basically ends for awhile in the aftermath. That's a tough situation.

If a colony of the UK, our staunchest friend and ally in the WOT, as well as historically, needs temporary help, I'd say we give it instead of selfishly telling them to get screwed (figuratively), as it seem some occupants of this thread are doing.

That said, however, the call for help, if it is to be taken seriesly, needs to come from government authority, either local or from the UK itself.

The USA has the jurisdiction of /1/ proximity, and /2/ citizens in dire straits.

Or do you suggest we kick it to the UN for a few weeks of discussion, while roving gangs of looters and rapists rule the black night?

That's the whole issue about Tim's letter... C&W can't invite the US in Mckeeva Bush and the Caymanian MP's must invite the US in to help... We should go in, but only if invited...

We are needed there... I know... I have close freinds, Caymanians, who are looking to leave the island until basics are restored... Our house was 90% ruined and that is based on people reporting back to us...

Cayman is in trouble... No water, no supplies, mosquitos, looting, etc...

"Go ask someone else for help."

Did you not notice that when we asked England for help in Iraq, they willingly responded?

The Caymans are a British Crown Colony. As such (in theory at least), the citizens have a reasonable expectation that Crown forces will assist the local constabulary in time of either physical disaster or other demonstrated need.

Perhaps I didn't read the article carefully enough, but I apparently missed what sort of law-enforcement aid the author expected and was not forthcoming from the Crown.

"The United States is not the world's policeman."

What will it take for Americans to believe this? Why would we squander the blood of our sons with such abandon?

Nice Maestro... Sit in your chair... Grab another cold drink while people are suffering... just because you didn't see it on FOX news doesn't mean that it didn't happen...

Forget the politics and politicians. An hour by air from Miami, roving gangs are terrorizing a helpless population, in the pitch dark. Women and children. This is cause for rapid brief intervention, because we can do it.

What was the agreement we used in the case of Grenada?

IMHO, one of the OAS nations has to request aid, or be militarily/governmentally incapable of doing so. We had a bunch of US citizens in the medical school there.

The Caymans are one flying hour from Miami, that's why we should intervene.

If a US cruise ship was sinking one hour from England, I would expect the English to send the first responders, and not dither and debate jurisdictions.

This is a matter of urgency, where roving gangs are robbing, raping and terrorizing in the pitch dark. Send help now, debate jurisdicions later. When a ship is sinking is not the time to stand on the shore and debate which lifeboats have duty in that area.
