Abilene is home to several Television stations including KRBC (NBC Channel 9), KTXS (ABC Channel 12), KXVA (Fox Channel 15), KTAB (CBS Channel 32), and KIDZ (UPN/PAX Channel 54).

Let's think about this. CBS sends its producer, Mary Mapes to Texas to visit with Burkett in Baird. I'm willing to guess she flew into Abilene, home of the soon to be famous Kinko's. Surely she might of had a flew hours to kill at Kinko's. I bet there's even a Starbuck's next door to keep her supplied with caffeine.

I think the document laundering is a real possibility. I would love to know if the copies that USA Today received came from that location as well. And the date.
I suppose it is also possible that these were just additional copies faxed around within the CBS structure and weren't the original copies attained. I think the only reason this kinko's came up is because someone noticed the header on the copies. There could be scores of these copies around.

I think they are setting Burkett up as the scapegoat.

My thoughts as well. But you know the thing with goats is sometimes they squeal when they get stuck......

This story is just getting warmed up folks. Gonna be a fun 7 weeks..... ;-)

Many of those of us in the military signed up years ago...and I have now logged on in more than a dozen countries, on four continents, and on more than a dozen deployments! It's addictive.

This could very well be the death-knell for the Kerry Campaign. A September Surprise!

A CBS producer (Mapes) could have gone to Burkett, picked up the docs, faxed to NY. Are you suggesting that Burkett did not use the KInkos to produce or fax the docs?

Agree as to your first scenario. Still, absence of home-office suits in the affiliate is smart, if rumors are to be kept down. Mapes is a producer. "What could the 60 Minutes story be?" goes the office.

My take is that whoever the "trusted source" of the documents was, they are in that part of the world. That's all. It isn't Marty Hecht (or whatever) in Iowa. Who knows what sort of dance whent on to give Mapes a sense that the documents were authentic. Doesn't really matter much.

Burket and Mapes could have been together at Kinkos, just for faxing would be my guess. The forgeries would be produced from a briefcase, file folder, notebook, or similar, and handed over for a look see, brief discussion, then send to home (NYC) office.

I don't think CBS authored the forgeries. If so, why bother traveling to Texas?

I think Dan will eventually ( ego crushing as it will be )admit he was scammed and apologize for his "jumping the gun " on this matter. He'll try to gain some sympathy and avoid the bigger implications that ,in fact ,the DEMS had something to do with this whole mess. It's probably his best bet. Rather say I was fooled then admit I was involved in trying to bring down a wartime president through fraud.

We need a "beep" feature, so that users can go to sleep near their computers but if something hot happens the story (decided by the webmaster) would generate a beep on your computer.

Oh geez, my family would love that!

They're always in their pajamas, too, but it's not because they're on FR...it's because the laundry is piling up and they have nothing to wear!

Ronnie Earl is DEMON SPAWN! Just ask Kay Bailey Hutchison about his political endeavors from the D.A.'s office. And several more locally focused cases in Austin. Nothing is beneath him.

Pretty women alway's live in someone elses town. Once you move there they all seem to vanish from view within six months. Odd phenomenon I must admit.

Could be bad breath. I'd have it checked ;-) ;-) ;-)

"How do people come here all the time for years and still manage to stay quiet?"

I lurked on Free Republic for hours and hours, almost every day, from late 1997-early 1998 till 2002. Amazing isn't it? :)
