219 GIs Wounded In Past Week
Associated Press ^ | September 15, 2004 | staff

Posted on 09/15/2004 7:08:29 AM PDT by w.freeper

More than 200 U.S. troops were wounded in Iraq in the past week, the Pentagon said Tuesday, and the total since the invasion was launched in March 2003 is now 7,245.

Of the 219 wounded in the past week, 81 were returned to duty; the 138 others were not.

The Pentagon generally reports its wounded totals each week. Fatality totals are updated daily.

The number of Americans killed and wounded has grown rapidly amid an intensifying and increasingly effective insurgency. There were more wounded over the past five months — about 4,000 — than in the first 13 months of the war, when there were about 3,300, according to Pentagon reports.

The number of Americans killed as of Tuesday was 1,018, by the Pentagon's count. That includes three civilian employees of the Department of Defense. It does not include Army Spc. Keith M. Maupin, 20, of Batavia, Ohio, who was captured April 9. His fate has not been officially resolved.

They're (the terrorists in Iraq) desperate to get Bush out and Kerry in!

Odd that we don't hear these wounded numbers much on TV.

That's a shame. My prayers go out to all the soldiers and their families as they go through these struggles.

Did you see this story:

Amputee’s re-enlistment a rarity (due to medical reasons)(Inspiration)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1212774/posts

from the story:

His injury has not cut his enthusiam for the service.

"I'm not bitter at all," he said. "I've been in the military my whole adult life, and I really enjoy it."

I noticed this focus on "the wounded" as opposed to deaths, recently on the news shows too. One has to ask why all of a sudden, "wounded" statistics are more newsworthy than deaths. There can only be one reason--deaths are down so far from last Spring that they will look like progress.

Wounded always are higher and the absolute number ("in the thousands" is more impressive even though many wounds are not lifethreatening or disabling.

These insurgents are emboldened by the divisiveness here at home - every time the leftists say Iraq is a "mess" it gives them new hope that they can put the Baathest back in power and return Iraq to a Saddam type government. I listened to Mary Beth Cahill yesterday say that whereas Kerry wouldn't bash Bush, her operatives in the campaign would continue to hurl disinformation at the Bush Administration.

The Democrats for Kerry are hurting our Troops, their efforts and this country by this. Kerry’s hand is on it and they are playing the same card he played in 1971 –72...Keep the Kerry senate voting record up on the net and condemn this now bashing Iraq every time you can. The stepped up attacks in Iraq are directly connected to our presidential election...help our fighting Men and Women in this.

While I question the motives of the poster, this is a serious concern of mine. Others think we're winning with a brilliant strategery in Iraq but it looks to me like a low-intensity stalemate. We need to crush Fallujah today *without* letting the terrorists melt away in the darkness.

... I keep watch over "how many wounded". My question is this: Clintons have their droids operating within the military. How (well?) is Hillarycare working to take care of these maimed and wounded soldiers? Or is Hillary now going to make some newer assertion besides her "uranium tipped US weaponry" harming our soldiers claim... I understand that parts of the military are "privatizing" in re medical. However, from what I'm hearing -- some of the "privatizing" aspects are putting soldiers on long waits in cases deserving of "immediate care". No, no.. this is not the result of Bush Admin policies. But it sounds SO much like Hillary's "vaunted" vision of "health care". Heads up... I can already hear the newer "hopeful" first lady about to pounce here... pfft... between the lines of this article.

Actually, the number of wounded AND dead are up. I have always supported the war--I'm just concerned that we are losing control of Iraq, piece by piece. The opposition is definitely getting better organized.
