Just what we don't need. The GOP congress being perceived as being on some partisan witchhunt, and wasting its time on a partisan matter. My congresman blew it with this turkey. Rather is going down very nicely as it is. We don't need some Congress committee's help.

Sorry, it's not time to ring the bell and merely send Rather back to his corner to take some time off before the election. This is the same kind of journalistic malfeasance that's been going on for years - except this time they've been caught & the evidence is so obvious, so overwhelming, it's a slam dunk. When the lane is clear you plow forwards. You don't call time out. Calling time out is exactly the lame kinda thing Pubbies are known for over the years. Expose these RATs for what they are and then move on. Partisan? No, I don't think so, and I think the public has a pretty good idea of what's going on here. This is what old media doesn't understand - so much of the work force today uses Word and can forge these documents themselves - and they know it! they've seen the evidence and know how these scheme worked. Remember we have coordinated DNC attacks and movies being released, after all. The backlash is what is going on in Kerry, McAuliffe & Rather's face!

"Just what we don't need"

No kidding. And please keep Trent Lott out of sight - he always manages to screw things up when we get momentum on outing Dem cheaters.

You are right. Politicians and MSM are exempt from the laws we have to obey. No oversight is necessary for them.

I agree. This will just make us like a-holes and Rather will hide behind the First Amendment. Better to let him fry in the court of public opinion.

Why not? It keeps the subject on the forgery and off Kitty... and her trashy book (they should add her and her non-sources to the investigation)... also keeps it off the economy, jobs, etc., and allows the Swifty's to beat up on sKerry some more (they have a new add coming out). At this point if we really got a bounce out of the convention, getting people riled up over the crooks isn't a bad thing...

CBS enjoys it's license at the pleasure of the FCC.
It isn't like this is a private company, either.
Pumping up stories to drive up advertising rates would be classified as a Sarbanes-Oxley no-no, as well.
How that money was spent to pump up the story could also be interesting.
If collusion exists between DNC/Kerry Campaing/CBS, then let's call it collusion, violatioin of RICO statutes, and break up the monopoly that is known as Viacom.

.....The GOP congress being perceived as being on some partisan witchhunt,.....

Your understanding of the situation is imperfect.

There is a war in progress and enemies must be killed or severely wounded.

Metaphorical Death is a highly underrated motivator.

Torie, you are so correct. This is one more time when the population has done, and is doing, a very nice job. Good points you make.

but it WOULD be nice to find out who's behind it all. Aren't you curious about that?

Just what we don't need.

This is a tactical error -- if this foolish notion gets enough traction to get into the news cycle, the focus of the story will become "Republicans Launch Partisan Investigation" instead of "Bush Smeared With Bogus Documents".

When the opposition is self-destructing, don't interfere.

If the situation was the other way around involving, say, Fox News and forged documents about a Democrat, you can be sure that Hillary would be demanding a Congressional investigation and CBS would be sounding the trumpet all over the place.
