Rep. Cox Requests House Rathergate Probe

A senior House Republican has formally requested a congressional investigation into an apparent criminal conspiracy to rig the 2004 presidential election by forging records from President Bush's National Guard service and having them reported by CBS News.

In a letter Tuesday night to Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the Subcommittee of Telecommunications and the Internet, Rep Christopher Cox, R-Calif., called for a probe into what he described as "the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election."

"It isn't the crime it's the cover-up" That is what Rather said about Nixon. Nixon must be smiling.

It's Dan Rather sending all of CBS out on one last kamikaze "banzai charge" for the cause.

This is just delightful! A fitting end to a LIAR who has possibly done more to damage the profession of journalism than any other single person.

I just noticed that if you spell D.Rather backwards, you end up with...

REHTARD.

CBS won't have to reveal who provided the documents, and nobody will be able to prove DNC and/or Kerry Campaign involvment, unless it is forced to do so. Others in the MSM cadre will be satisfied as long as CBS makes an attempt, however lame, to acknowledge a *journalistic error*. Then, the pressure is off completely - unless Congress intervenes. Only then will the public know the chain of custody back to the person who claims he/she pulled the docs from Killian's "personal file", and where the blame ultimately must fall.

If all Congress is going to accomplish is an admission of an "jounalistic error" on the part of CBS, then why bother with hearings. I hope the REAL story comes out in these hearings. If CBS used forged documents in an attempt to influence the outcome of a US Presidential election, I want the world to know!

I don't think the revolutionary forces, the new media, are strong enough yet to confront the authoritarian media in a Congressional investigation

It's not a question of strength.

If a Congressional committee gets involved, do you think for a minute that the members will allow the 'new media' to confront Old Media?

A Congressional committee is designed to deal only with Old Media.

Hitching the 'new media' and a Congressional committee together is a strategic mistake. It's like following up an air attack with a cavalry charge.

I'd like to say that this was a good thing, but I have lost all faith in these types of investigations. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt that anything substantial will come of this.

The only thing that will be the catalyst forcing revelations about who created the forgeries and their chain of custody will be subpoenas.

I don't care where they come from, but subpoenas have to be issued. If people are paying attention, they realize the MSM and cable news aren't going after CBS for their sources and chain of custody information. They are going after its journalistic integrity. There is no way the DNC and the Kerry Campaign will be directly implicated until people *in the know* are faced with telling the truth or sacrificing their own careers.

One thing I hate about these type of hearings is the fact that it gives air time to the lies and word games the liberals like to display. In truth, I think they ought to send them all home and make them stay in the closet for at least 6 months.

You are right. Politicians and MSM are exempt from the laws we have to obey. No oversight is necessary for them.
