Rep. Cox Requests House Rathergate Probe

A senior House Republican has formally requested a congressional investigation into an apparent criminal conspiracy to rig the 2004 presidential election by forging records from President Bush's National Guard service and having them reported by CBS News.

In a letter Tuesday night to Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the Subcommittee of Telecommunications and the Internet, Rep Christopher Cox, R-Calif., called for a probe into what he described as "the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election."

Cox wrote: "Despite the growing abundance of the evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents. USA Today possesses the same documents, obtained independently from a person representing them to be authentic, and likewise is refusing to disclose his identity."

The letter, first reported by radio host Hugh Hewitt, concluded:

"Given the shortness of time between now and the election which the apparent fraud is meant to influence, and the even shorter time before Congress is scheduled to adjourn, I strongly urge that the Subcommittee move with all deliberate speed to uncover the facts."

This is GREAT news!!!

I really like Cox and hope he runs for higher office. His exposure of how the Clintons sold national security secrets to the Chinese was well done and it's only because sometimes the RNC has no backbone that the report didn't gain traction.

Excellent.

This election scam through criminally forged documents given to the media must be stopped and blown up for everyone to see.

What's that I smell? Oh, it's Dan Rather's burning flesh, as he's being slow-cooked over a fire of his own making.

This is just delightful! A fitting end to a LIAR who has possibly done more to damage the profession of journalism than any other single person.

<<< tossing some more wood on the fire :-)

It's long overdue for government to smarten these biased media clowns up. I for one, am sick and tired of this biased, corrupt media.

Just what we don't need. The GOP congress being perceived as being on some partisan witchhunt, and wasting its time on a partisan matter. My congresman blew it with this turkey. Rather is going down very nicely as it is. We don't need some Congress committee's help.

My favorite words in his statement are "criminal conspiracy" with respect to rig the election.

Love this. Thanks for posting it.

and , while we're at it, can we speed up the Sandy Burglar stolen document situation.

Methinks they are connected.

Oh this is fantastic! I am skeptical that anything will come of it after reading Bob Barr's new book, but at least it will put the kerry troops and seeBS on the hot seat where they belong.

Sorry, it's not time to ring the bell and merely send Rather back to his corner to take some time off before the election. This is the same kind of journalistic malfeasance that's been going on for years - except this time they've been caught & the evidence is so obvious, so overwhelming, it's a slam dunk. When the lane is clear you plow forwards. You don't call time out. Calling time out is exactly the lame kinda thing Pubbies are known for over the years. Expose these RATs for what they are and then move on. Partisan? No, I don't think so, and I think the public has a pretty good idea of what's going on here. This is what old media doesn't understand - so much of the work force today uses Word and can forge these documents themselves - and they know it! they've seen the evidence and know how these scheme worked. Remember we have coordinated DNC attacks and movies being released, after all. The backlash is what is going on in Kerry, McAuliffe & Rather's face!
