CBS is in a box here. I mean normally if their source gave them forged documents, which is exactly what happened, then CBS has a duty and an obligation to say who gave them these documents. I think CBS CAN'T say who gave them the documents because to do so would expose either the DNC, the Kerry campaign or BOTH! So... Rather and his network has to stick to this preposterous story that the documents are real. Rarher should, at the very least, find himself before a Congressional committee to explain why he won't reveal his source for these bogus documents.

What a snakepit CHS must be, as coups and counter-putsches are plotted, and Young Turks and Old Guard Junta's jockey for power positions, post Rather!

Thanks for ping.

I'm not gonna get all excited, though: Clinton: blue dress; Loral; John Huang; FBI papers, etc.

I hope this will be the pressure needed to out the source and we don't actually get Congress involved. Getting Congress into this could backfire unless spearheaded by Democrats.

I have to agree with you. Getting Congress into this is too unpredictable.

CBS won't have to reveal who provided the documents, and nobody will be able to prove DNC and/or Kerry Campaign involvment, unless it is forced to do so. Others in the MSM cadre will be satisfied as long as CBS makes an attempt, however lame, to acknowledge a *journalistic error*. Then, the pressure is off completely - unless Congress intervenes. Only then will the public know the chain of custody back to the person who claims he/she pulled the docs from Killian's "personal file", and where the blame ultimately must fall.

I don't think the revolutionary forces, the new media, are strong enough yet to confront the authoritarian media in a Congressional investigation, but the new media are obvously on the rise while the centralized authoritarian media, a product of the 1960s, are in rapid decline.

Three years ago, I predicted that the War on Terror would see the end of the centralized authoritarian media as a significant factor in American life.
I based this on two assumptions:

1. Big media would undermine the war in an effort to repeat its success in Vietnam, and their hubris and arrogance would be so great that they would completely ignore the rise of an opposing force.

2. That opposing force, New media (including the internet) would expose this duplicity, document and examine it continuously in real time, and the audience would revolt.

This has come to pass. It is not just the alphabet networks that are at stake here, it is the entire elitist cultural structure of the past 40 years.
This is why leftists, including the rank and file as well as the leadership, are in such desperate denial over this affair.
Power to the people!

I doubt much will come of this. Certainly not in time for the elections. However, maybe the investigation alone will give enough of a negative to the dems it's worth the effort.

Texas Eagle makes a great point. Shhhhhh, let's get re-elected first.

"Forgive my reticence but I would hate to see a situation where President Bush pulls the rug out from under Congressman Cox's feet. You know how he is about that whole "New Tone In Washington" thing."

When Bush gets re-elected, we have already heard of some of the things he wants to do. Listen to the debates, they will tell more.

But for now he has to stay the course of being re-elected. Not pleasant, but necessaru/
