A senior House Republican has formally requested a congressional investigation into an apparent criminal conspiracy to rig the 2004 presidential election by forging records from President Bush's National Guard service and having them reported by CBS News.
In a letter Tuesday night to Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the Subcommittee of Telecommunications and the Internet, Rep Christopher Cox, R-Calif., called for a probe into what he described as "the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election."

What are the odds of lowbridge scamming Rather with those documents... just a thought.

I've always been a huge Chris Cox fan. He'd make an excellent Senator?

Subpoena Burkett to testify before the committee as to whether he typed the memos or gave them to CBS?DNC>
If he refuses to testify his military retirement and medical benefits can be taken away.

We The People got this one, Congressman Cox.
You just sit back, relax and think up ways to spend our money. We'll take care of Dan Rather and SeeBS.

I would not be so fast to jump on this bandwagon. Consider:
Kerry seems to be going down faster then Monica in the oval office.
If Cox is portrayed as being out to "get CBS" the rest of the media could just decide to rally around them (defending one of their own).
How can we benefit from this now, as opposed to delaying this until after the election?
Let CBS twist in the wind, they are a whipped pup right now, but back them into the wall and they could bite.
OK, flame away, but I see more potential downside then upside (at least until Nov. 3)

Sure did. It is a fascinating thread!

I don't like this idea at all. As I said earlier, it will be a bunch of bloviating narcissists giving Dan Rather a forum and publicity. $10,000,000 later there will be zip to show for it, except to politicize a criminal act. What are we hoping to do - impeach Rather?

Rather will be gone by the end of the month. He's toast. The CBS honchos will NOT take a chance on public disgrace in front of a Senate committee.
This would be so humiliating, with ten foot tall blowups of the forged memos on easels etc. The most incredible beyond-dipute experts calling them 100% fake, and CBS unable to produce anybody but some old IBM typewriter repairman. Total career-ending humiliation for all of CBS News.
That's why they're going to jab a needle in Rather's neck tomorrow in his dressing room, and drag him out on a stretcher, catatonic. "Stress. Overwork."
Rather is toast.

Bad move. While this ratchets up the heat a little, this changes the focus. The other media's been drawing the noose tighter and tighter around DNC-BS's neck.
Anyone with a brain knows that no Congressional committee is going to hold hearings between now and November.
If your enemy is digging a hole, you don't give him a ladder.
Whoever is chairman of the committee ought to just back off this.
This whole story's been developing fine without the politicians in DC getting involved.
Why do you think the RNC and the WH have kept (pretty much) quiet about this? Aside from Laura Bush's remarks, and a statement by some press secretary today, they're playing the story like pros.
