A senior House Republican has formally requested a congressional investigation into an apparent criminal conspiracy to rig the 2004 presidential election by forging records from President Bush's National Guard service and having them reported by CBS News.
In a letter Tuesday night to Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the Subcommittee of Telecommunications and the Internet, Rep Christopher Cox, R-Calif., called for a probe into what he described as "the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election."

but first ban CBS from moderating the presidential debate on October 13th I disagee with congressional investigations into political speech. If there was a crime committed, get law enforcement involved, but keep congress out of it.
However, I think the Bush camp should say that there are legitimate concerns about Rather's objectivity, now that he is part of the story on the campaign. The Bush folks should require a different moderator for the debate.

Add Sandy Berger to the list. Oil for Food investigation to the list. I know there are more, just to late to think.

CBS enjoys it's license at the pleasure of the FCC.
It isn't like this is a private company, either.
Pumping up stories to drive up advertising rates would be classified as a Sarbanes-Oxley no-no, as well.
How that money was spent to pump up the story could also be interesting.
If collusion exists between DNC/Kerry Campaing/CBS, then let's call it collusion, violatioin of RICO statutes, and break up the monopoly that is known as Viacom.

I'm all for an investigation. It's obvious Rather and C
BS are using their position and power to influence a presidential election.
Rather should resign. It' the right (not leftist) thing to do.

What's all this insane business about "protecting sources" if criminal activity is involved?
Failure to report knowledge of a crime is still a crime, isn't it? Prove the forgeries once and for all. Then CBS has to be forced to name the perps or else some of their pampered, powdered execs go to the Orange Jumpsuit Riviera for an extended stay.
Bring on a congressional investigation.....the more investigation and heat brought to bear the merrier. Chris Cox is a bulldog. Let him sniff out the crooks.

I disagee with congressional investigations into political speech.I agree with you, but forgery and fraud are not politcal speech. They are crimes.

Looks like Cox is on the Right Frequency!
Perhaps he should wait till the damage to the Demoncrats and SeeBS has run its course.
It gives me such thrill to see Rather twisting in the wind, hanging out to dry.
PS - Last night on Fox News, Henry Kissinger stated that we and the world are fighting a war against islamic terrorism, not just terrorist!

There's gotta be some fine oaken stakes to drive through the heart of "Campaign Finance Reform" and so regain free speech.
