Whoa! What's happening?
Why are people turning on us?
We're the Baby Boomers, you know.
The Mighty Boomers.
We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.
Now people are turning on us.
We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.
Ridiculous, isn't it?
People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.
Excuuuuse me.
Who should we think about? Somebody else?
All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.
Sure, they saved the world.
Did they ever throw a party like Woodstock?

OK, so add humor-impaired to the list of shortcomings.
Thanks! The actual year that Roe was decided ranks low on my list of dates to remember. What a despicable court decision!
Far out!
I have an announcement. The Boomers are the LARGEST generation in the WORLD. We vote. When we are seniors, we will STILL vote.
So, guess what?
Politicians pander to people who vote, not to people who don't. People who vote in large blocs tend to get what they want, right or wrong. The federal bureaucracy and liberal establish do not have power in and of themselves, they have the power bestowed by voters who think it's someone else's responsibility to take care of them.
Well, for starters, a lot of baby boomers turned out to be anti-war activists. No wonder the surrounding generations don't like them.
Crap. I fell in anyway...
Yep! Go W!
If you have any kind of useful degree, you can make a whole lot more than 60K a year right out of college or graduate school (especially grad school)
What planet do you live on? I want to move there.
Umm... We aren't conservative because our parents were or taught us to be. We tend to be conservative because we saw first hand how screwed up liberalism was with our parents as star examples and decided not to repeat those mistakes.
So yes, our parents "taught us" to be conservative, but that wasn't the result our parents intended nor did they realize the lesson they were actually teaching.
Wasn't there a post earlier in the thread how us Xers need to be grateful for the education Boomers provided for us? ...something to that effect...
It WON'T go two ways for us. There will be nothing left for us. Our ability to save for our own retirement will be hampered by the Big Boomer Suck that will happening just when we most need to be putting aside for our futures. I have YET to hear from ANY Boomer that they're concerned about the future of their offspring.
HUH? It won't go "two ways" for us either! It will be broke before we get to collect 1% of what we've paid in. And incidentally...we managed to raise you kids and PAY all the bills, too.
I'll join you. I had the same thought the other day.
Wow! What a coincidence, I was just talking about this very subject, except that we were slanting it form the hippys of the 60'2/70's rebelling against the establishement. Now that they are the establishment they absolutely hate it when rebelled against.....
I took care of my "retirement" two years ago, when we welcomed son # 2 into the world. By the time he finishes high school, I'll be pushing 70!
Winning the lottery and working part-time at Luby's are two major planks of my retirement program!!!
One major issue has not been discussed with the pending retirement of boomers: the unemployment rate is going to vanish, and there will be too many jobs to fill.
Winning the lottery and working part-time at Luby's are two major planks of my retirement program!!!
LOL I'll probably end up as a "Greeter" at WalMart. LOL
Tell that to GW Bush. I have read most of this thread and see alot of disagreement between the Gen x, Gen y and boomers. The thing I don't see is any mention of The Totalization Treaty with Mexico.
This treaty was signed by Jo Anne Barnhart on June 29, 2004 and is now before congress. It has 60 working days before it automatically becomes law. Congress doesn't even have to vote on this.
Mexicans will only have to work 6 quarters while Americans have to work 40 quarters to collect SS. Illegals are also covered in this bill so that they can go home to Mexico and will be guaranteed a monthly check from our government. This will also cover the illegals dependants. There is a bill in congress trying to stop this but it is not getting much support as more people are worried about Dan Rather than the country.
Hey, some years back hitlery said that the first six months of life and the last six months were the most strain on our health care system. She went on to say that we had some hard choices to make!
This is the most honest statement yet on this thread.
