Suddenly, everyone's turning against us Baby Boomers
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 9/14/04 | RAY MCALLISTER

Whoa! What's happening?

Why are people turning on us?

We're the Baby Boomers, you know.

The Mighty Boomers.

We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.

Now people are turning on us.

We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.

Excuuuuse me.

Who should we think about? Somebody else?

All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.

Sure, they saved the world.

Did they ever throw a party like Woodstock?

I think it's more good-natured ribbing than serious hatred.

at least, I *HOPE* so!

I tell my my mother, as much as I love her, Greatest Generation , that she is part of the problem. She could move in with me tomorrow and I would love it. She drank the Rat koolaide many years ago, but she is lively and articulate and the Grandkids love her, even though they think Rats are evil.

Grandparents are family history.

Bluntly, I think it was a desire to get laid. I think that most men would put up with almost anything in the pursuit of sex. But I'm a pessimist.

Well that's what I figured it was. The countries future sold down the river for a piece of ass. Western Europe here we come.

"Generations X and Y can't wait to put us in a home."

That would be a lot more charitable than gen x and y got from the Boomers. Why wouldn't a generations that grew up being taught that abortion for reasons of convienience and expense is perfectly fine apply the same standard to the other life at the other end??

Ditch 'em. It's simply a matter of "Choice".

Problem is america's golden age is over.

Um no. The problem is the Boombers fostered abortion and birth control so they could live selfishly and now there is not enough people left to take care of them. End of discussion.

Let's just say their expectation to be kept alive forever through advances in medical science has bankrupted the countries health care system.

Q. How can a industry be "bankrupted" by having too many customers?

A. When it is a socialist system.

It seems to me the only spoiled, shallow generation is the one that now doesn't want to do for us what we've always done for the rest....and we did it without whining.

Gen X isn't mad at the Boomer generation for getting old. Gen X is mad at the Boomer generation for what they DIDN'T do for their children.

We were the first generation to be aborted. We were the first generation that people took pills to prevent (on a mass scale). We were the largest generation to be without stay-at-home mothers and we had more fatherless folks in our generation than any before. We were latch-key kids. Our mothers told us that we weren't as important as themselves. (Many, MANY Gen Xer's have heard their mom's say, "I'm not just a mother. I'm a person, too. I have needs. You're not the center of the Universe" as they watch their mom's walk out the door.) Our education was slip-shod and designed to set us up for failure. The Boomers cut our population on a massive scale, cut our labor force, then expect us to care for them with our reduced numbers. While we're in our most productive years our ability to set aside for our own retirement will be reduced due to the money being pumped into the SS sewer. Ans we *know* that we seriously need to save that money for ourselves because we've been told our entire lives that SS won't be there for us. Now the burden for OUR care will be on our children, but not on a group, on our individual families.

If the Boomers really wanted to help their children and grandchildren out they would stop calling SS a "right" and volunteer to help the situation. Any Boomer who has enough retirement to get by without SS needs to let it go. If a Boomer has a family member who is willing to take them in, they need to shift the burden as much to the family and off the system as they can. If a Boomer has the ability, mental acuity and strength to keep working, they should. They should raise the retirement age to 70 and only disabled should be able to collect SS before then. (There should be NO outrage on that last line as that is what us Xers have to do.)

I should add that boomers are not responsible for FDR who pushed socialism to the top of the cliff and LBJ who put it on his back and climbed the highest Mt.

Don't count on an inheritance either cause we're gonna spend it ALL!

Don't worry old-timers. We're gonna let enough illegals into to take care of you in the nursing homes. What with the rise in Alzheimer's you won't even know the difference. ;-)

Future sociologists are going to be super-tough on feminism. Just watch. The Boomers may not live long enough to see it (particularly if Gen X sticks us in a wood chipper), but Gen Z certainly will.

Don't worry! *You* won't be going in the wood chipper! lol! (That's the best post so far today!)

And yes, feminazi's suck. (Put simply, as only a Gen Xer can...)

Exactimundo, Cricket. I was born in '54 as well and have, as I've gotten older, bemoaned the awful legacy our self-absorbed, narcissitic, unborn children-killing generation has left behind. When you put us side by side in comparison to our fathers' and mothers' generation, we come off about as badly as one could get. Historians of the future WILL NOT BE KIND TO US.

Clinton and Kerry are unfortuately poster children for the failings of the Boomer generation. Spoiled, entitled, lazy, irresponsible, and arrogant are just a few of the characteristics we'll be justifiably painted with. And the fact that the preceding generation sacrificed so much to provide our generation with an unparalleled level of affluence and opportunity only to see many of us turn out to be terrible stewards of our country.

Those of us who have matured and learned over time and realized our generation's failings can only try to do as much as we can to correct the wrongs and maybe, just maybe at least rehabilitate some of our legacy.

Bingo. And it bears repeating. The boomers whiped my generation out by the MILLIONS and now that there aren't enough people to take care of them, they whine that they are going to have to work longer? Cry that the children are ungrateful? Pul-lease.

"Those of us from the depression era and earlier have known and said the baby boomers were wortless, they are just now getting the message."

But who is responsible for creating that "worthless" generation??

The first generation to have the "American Dream" handed to them on a platter had no idea what to do with it, and like the impudent spoiled brats we were, took it all for granted and came to expect our demands to be catered to in every way.

The modern Democratic Party is the embodiment of the Baby Boomer generation...led by king of "if anything is wrong it's someone else's fault" himself, Bill Clinton.

You get an F in logic.

The very reason Xers are alive to complain is because their parents valued life.

We're not that hard to pick out; we're the ones who can spell.

And add more than two single digit numbers in our heads.
