Suddenly, everyone's turning against us Baby Boomers
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 9/14/04 | RAY MCALLISTER

Whoa! What's happening?

Why are people turning on us?

We're the Baby Boomers, you know.

The Mighty Boomers.

We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.

Now people are turning on us.

We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.

Excuuuuse me.

Who should we think about? Somebody else?

All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.

Sure, they saved the world.

Did they ever throw a party like Woodstock?

The reason you are hated is because you are going to break the SS system. You need to work until you die.

OK, cue that cute little number from Les Mis....

Howzat go?

Look down, look down......

You'll slave until you die!

Something like that!

Another of those rockin' doo-wop ditties the X'ers came up with, for us to go out on.

I was there from '69 - '72, and damned proud of it.

I wasn't "there", but I did serve stateside in the US Army from 1968 through 1972 and I'm damned proud of it too. I'm also proud of my generation and especially proud of those who fought and died.

People who identify themselves based on a generational stereotype are losers.

"Does that include FReepers who provided for their retirement, never stole anything, and paid all their taxes?"

Apparently so. ~sarcasm off~

Whose us, Kemosabe

We're not that hard to pick out; we're the ones who can spell.

If selfish old people continue to demand to be 'taken care of' by the government, my children and grandchildren's generations are going to be paying the bills.

Ahhhhhhhhh...my heart bleeds for you. You are the selfish ones. We've paid since we were 16 and supported our parents and Grandparents. We also gave the government trillions of dollars so we could pay our own way..they ripped us off. It shouldn't have cost you spoiled brats a thin dime.

You want to get mad, get mad at the politicians who couldn't keep their hands off our cash. And by the way...have you paid back that student loan us selfish Boomers floated for you?

I must say something about the "greatest" generation before us. They are the ones who truly benefited from Social Security, the good economy etc. and I find them to be the last to worry about all of you or the boomers.

You mean the ones that were able to payoff their homes, had good paying manufacturing jobs, and spend their retirement riding around in their 100 thousand dollar mobile homes whining about the cost of perscription drugs, and voting against school bond measures. The parents of the boombers?

Let's just say their expectation to be kept alive forever through advances in medical science has bankrupted the countries health care system.

It seems to me the only spoiled, shallow generation is the one that now doesn't want to do for us what we've always done for the rest....and we did it without whining.

Yeah!!!! Thanks from the rest of us old geezers!

This just irks me. There I was enjoying an innocent "Theresa calls Bush inflexible" thread and ran across this. Sheesh. Enough hatred in the world already without "let's get the generation before us/after us" crap.

There are enough divisions. Egads, let's have some respect for one another. Not you, Lent. Just generally speaking.

Dear boomers,
Retirement and healthcare aren't entitlements.
Learn it. Live it.

Cool. There's still time for me to cut of your grandpappy:)

Why aren't you children at work?

Who's paying your way to be able to sit here and post on the net in the middle of a work day?????

Of course not. I culled his nightmare from Transcript of ABC's "This Week" for February 4, 2007, a satirical essay I wrote 5 years ago in which Hillary becomes president.

I was wide of the mark on 90% of it, but some parts of it are too good not to use again.

Boomers only wanted 1/2 a kid so they could spend all of their time and money on themselves, that's why they made birth control and abortion the law of the land. Now there aren't enough people to take care of them. Boo hoo.

Boomers didn't do that, Boomer broads did.

I built a career, bought a house, all ready to go......and only gold-diggers showed up. Well. What's a boy to think?

I think I'll be comfortably retired, sitting on my porch 15 years from now, watching those former "Sisterhood is powerful" feminists who were too good for guys, pushing their grocery carts down the street.

So don't look at me, I did my part .... it's the Silent Generation malcontents, Friedan and Steinem, that started the crap. And Hef -- Hef played an underappreciated role in family decline, with his sportive, fundamentally irresponsible ways that women abreacted to very badly.

Future sociologists are going to be super-tough on feminism. Just watch. The Boomers may not live long enough to see it (particularly if Gen X sticks us in a wood chipper), but Gen Z certainly will. I think I'll live long enough to see Gen Z sprout a little iron on their temples, and by then maybe the jury will be back on feminism. If people are still writing in English.
