Fox News All Stars with Brit Hume Now Treating Docs as Fakes
Hank All-American | Sep 13, 2004 | Hank All-American

Posted on 09/13/2004 3:57:28 PM PDT by Hank All-American

I just finished watching the all-star round table discussion with Brit Hume, Fred Barnes, Mort Kondracke, and Mara Liasson on Fox. No longer are they giving serious consideration to the possibility the Bush ANG documents are not fakes. Even Liasson more or less admitted there was no chance they were real. She also admitted the burden of proof was on the people making the allegation, and that this had "blown-up" in the face of the Bush-haters.

This segment was notable in that this is the first time I've seen the issue treated without the seemingly-obligatory agnosticism we've been seeing. They said they were fake and took CBS to task. Kudos to Brit Hume for pointing out this had virtually nothing to do with Bush showing up in Alabama, but contained new allegations about favorable treatment and pressure from higher-ups that have no substantiation if the documents are fake. Liasson grudgingly agreed.

In fact, to paraphrase a former Texas governor, she looked like she realized there was nothing she could do about it, so ... you know the rest.

I watched all of Brit's show this evening and thought they did a pretty good job examining the evidence pointing to forgery...but I was disappointed that no one tackled the obvious questions of who produced the documents and what role the DNC and the Kerry campaign had in either producing them or forwarding them to CBS.

I wonder if the strategy now isn't to talk the question of fake or genuine to death so that people want to "move on" without inquiring where the documents originated.

Rather reminds me of Nixon in the summer of 1974.

Now all we need is for Registered to put Rather's face on Nixon's body a la, ["I am not a crook"].

IBM has nothing to do with this mess. It is CBS that must be held accountable, not IBM. Why are you spamming so many threads with your "suggestion"?

O'Reilly is full of bombast. I have never really had a high opinion of him, or enjoyed his show. He lacks the intellectual clarity to fend off mindless Lefty diatribes.

I agree with the goddess.

Since they only have 10-15 minutes each day to discuss, perhaps the strategy is to put the issue of authenticity to rest so that they can move onto the next question of who passed them?

I agree! I've got no use for liberalism, but their are a few "good" liberals. Genuinely misguided people who still seek the good of mankind. I believe Mara is one of these. There may be a few more, but they are rare.

I don't believe that Mara is misguided. She's been in this game too long and she's too smart to always have to be bending over backward to make sense out of liberal logic.

Declaring that "I am not a crook," President Nixon Mr. Rather vigorously defended his record in the Watergate Blathergate case tonight and said he had never profited from his public service.

"I have earned every cent. And in all of my years of public life I have never obstructed justice," Mr. NixonRather said.

"People have got to know whether or not their PresidentNewsreader is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook. I've earned everything I've got."

Most liberals like Eleanor Clift, Malveaux, or Estrich just make me sick to my stomach. But I've listened to Mara on NPR for years on my way home from work (radio only gets a few stations!) and I don't find her revolting. Yes, a consistent liberal slant but not repulsive!

IBM by it's silence gives tacit approval to them. not only that, if they can clean up this mess it's their Civic DUTY to do so!!! either they are real or they aren't and IBM seems to be the easiest one to prove the point one way or the other. i'm hitting all the CBS threads to get some action... why else do you think i'm doing it??? RATher will go down dragging cbs with him before he confesses, i want this cleared up once and for all.

Only See-BS is still claiming the papers are true.

Not True - Read Joe Kline in Time. All You Have to Do Is Believe(can't believe we are losing to Bush!)

Read Democratic National Commitee Website.

Democrats Still Say Bush Dishonored Guard

The truth doesn't matter and they have no shame.

I am outraged!!!!

I'm sorry I missed this as well. How stupid does Dan Rather think we all are? Shows how dumb he sure that's for sure.

Re: Mara trying to bring conversation back to the CONTENT of the documents"

That's the Democratic mantra: Forget they are forgeries, let's discuss the content. But the only reason someone would forge them is to put FALSE content into play.

Juan Williams tried the same thing on Sunday and they let him slide on it.

Dan was not had and he is not in denial. He is more than old enough to remember what old typewriter print looks like and he was in an ideal profession to be exposed to PLENTY of it.

There's NO WAY he could have looked at these memos and not had his suspicion aroused. He is just flat-out lying and has been from the beginning.

That's exactly my take on it. There's no way that CBS News was duped.

Scarborough Country is also giving a good treatment to the story, They have Heavy hitters from the MSM basically conceding that Dan is blowing it and that the documents are basically fake. Howard Fineman said that what's at stake here is the credibility of the MSM, that the danger is that CBS looks like Democrat Partisan.

I cannot believe he is still standing behind those docs!

Yeah, and they won't release them because they know they will not stand up to scrutiny.

Real ethical journalism there, Dan. Because you want it to be true you manufacture second class forgeries and pawn them off in prime time.

Well, CBS and their "big star" Dan Rather may as well have made the Docs themselves since they will not budge to any type of independent authentication or sourcing.

But anyone with any true insight has little doubt where these forgeries came from, and it's absolutely poisoned the well for democrats.

Go Dan Go! Keep right on denying. We're loving it.
