Report from Chappaqua: No downside for Hillary if she replaces Kerry on the ticket..
one man's opinion

Posted on 09/13/2004 12:27:52 PM PDT by ken5050

As many of you know, I have over the past four years occasionally chronicled the Clintons, from the perspective of what one hears and observes from Beautiful Downtown Chappaqua. Many Freepers have told me how much they enjoy my commentaries. I've ignored the rumors, the innuendos, the "tin-foil hat" theories. Indeed, there are many more very interesting details that I have deliberately chosen NOT to share with all of you. What I'm going to discuss now is admitted speculation on my part, but based upon a few conversations I've had in the last few days..and you'll have to trust my instincts on my sources..OK..here goes..

The "Hillary 2004" theory is like Jason from "Friday the 13th".

You can burn it, you can shoot it, you can put in a rocket and send it into the heart of the sun, but it will not die.

I fully expect that in 2048, there will be talk about cloning Hillary from her corpse and building a time machine to resurrect the possibility.

John Kerry won't give this up. I'm working on that assumption right now... defeating him.

That said, I live in NJ and experienced the torch up close. I think the way Bush/Cheney is running the campaign, the Clinton's could pull this and it wouldn't matter.

Teresa returned to campaigning almost immediately. I'm not sure what's she'e doing now, but her illness was very temporary.

I have a different opinion concerning Hillary. I do not view her as this messianic candidate that is a guarantee for 2008. Did anyone see her speech at the DNC? ... She was pathetic, uninspiring, incoherent, shill, and generally a liability to that convention. She does not present herself well to a national audience, someone like Obama would run circles around her.

Furthermore, if the Dems loose this election in a big way, I honestly believe that the party will self-reflect and finally figure out once and for all that the Clintons are responsible for its destruction. Only the far left wing supports Hillary ...

Now as to her running THIS year as a replacement for Kerry, I don't think we have anything to fear if that happens. W would trounce her ... her only experience (she has done nothing in NY) was a failed attempt at socializing medicine for the country. That was a disaster in the making ...

Nothing to fear here ... move on ...

3. This would all have to happen within the next two weeks, so that Hillary could participate in the Presidential debates. And wouldn't those get some incredible ratings.

I agree with your analysis, except on this point. She! can wait until October, she! can duck all debates.

There is no downside, that is for sure. She could take either slot on the ticket, Pres or Veep. If any combination would pull more votes than Kerry/Edwards, the DEM party has nothing to lose by making a switch. Kerry's health, or a scandal (memogate) can take him down.

In that light, memogate was engineered, perhaps with Kerry's knowledge. He can go down for a political scandal instead of for poisoning the American public against an entire generation of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen.

Hillary will run in 2008 and win, she will be president for 8 years, after which time you will not recognize this country and it will fall into ruin some 34 years later and cease to exist.

She will never run.

She will be fatter than Elizabeth Edwards in 2008 and look as weather-beaten as Ann Richards.

No way.

There have to be some laws about this. Not that the Dems would follow them.

Seems like the only issue would be ballot deadlines. The parties largely control how their candidates are nominated. And as you said, if there are any laws (they'd be state laws, not federal), the Rats will just befuddle the matter in an enormous legal quagmire. By the time its sorted out the election will be over.

As for the major idea, back when Dean was running this scenario sounded perfect, since it was perfectly obvious that Dean was a nutcase. Who'd have thought the SWIFTvets would have emerged from obscurity to sink Kerry's campaign?

Finally, its silly to believe in conspiracies and I don't think there's one here. But I do agree that the opportunity appears to be arising, and that Hitlery would *never* submit herself to a one-year campaign cycle. So it's possible they'll make a run for it.

Absentee ballots are likely being printed in all 50 states already; distribution begins .... likely by October 4th. Theres a bunch of state laws involving changing the ballots within 30 days of an election -- too complex to make guarantees in all 50 states. The arguments are sound, but I personally believe it's too late in the game for this. A month ago? Yeah, maybe.

I'll throw one more reason to SUPPORT this line of thinking, however: we know that a lengthy campaign would not leave Hill clean -- but an absurdly SHORT campaign, and she has a shot, IM(very afraid)HO.

And there would be a CIVIL WAR if she won.

If she played by the rules and ran for the nomination, by all mens go for it. No one will ever accept her getting th Presidency by this means.

How about ballot issues...I'm not sure at this date they could get her on the ballot? Anybody have any expertise on that?

Interesting scenario. Several problems with it though. First is Mr. Kerry's huge ambitions. I also believe that Nader would not support her, because he is absolutely livid at the way the DNC is treating him right now. Let us not forget that Mr McAuliffe is a Clinton crony. Indeed, her campaign would give Nader a plethora of ammunition that I doubt that he could resist using against her.

But more importantly, the legal issues to switch candidates at this point would probably insurmountable. Remember this is not New Jersey. The Supremes would probably rule against making a switch at this late date. If we are talking of an arkancide issue, that still leaves Mr. Edwards as the heir-apparent.

I also don't see her giving up her senate seat either. Remember that Mr. Clinton broke a pledge to run for the presidency in 1992. Mrs. Clinton's word is just as good as her hubby's.

Frightening!

And increasingly conceivable. For the very reasons you cite.

Indeed, the 2008 nomination of a party that was utterly demolished in 2004 may not be all that attractive as a launching pad. Though it's well to remember that, after Goldwater ostensibly "buried the party" in 1964, Nixon won in '68 (an open seat, during an ongoing war, I might add).

But would Hillary relish taking over a government with dominant GOP majorities in both houses of Congress?

What is becoming increasingly clear is that, the way things are going for Democrats, there is no downside!

Hillary will NEVER be President! She is way too polorizing.

I do think she has her 08 speech ready to give on November 3rd. And I do agree 4 years is a long time and she will become a punching bag of the right.

We will have 3 years to build a case and set out a strategy to ruin her in 07-08.

I think the RNC convention showed we have such a better message and line up of politicians for the futre. Rudy, McCain, Arnie and Condi are part of the POSITIVE future.

The DIM LIGHT is burning out.....Dean, Sharpton, Kerry, Kucinich, Gore, Mcawful etc are history.......

For now barring any huge event KERRY IS TOAST. He really is the worst candidate they could have put up there. In fact he has divided his own party with his flip flopping. A bad first decade of the new millinium for the Dimwits!
