'Don't get played,' Democrats tell blacks
MSNBC ^ | September 13, 2004 | Associated Press

A group of Democratic insiders that has spent some $40 million on advertising against President Bush is rolling out new campaign commercials telling urban blacks “don’t keep getting played” and accusing Bush of turning his back on them.

“Bush has a plan for America. But you’re not part of it,” says one television ad being released Monday. Another claims: “Bush said prosperity was right around the corner, but he wasn’t talking about the corners in your neighborhood.”

The Media Fund plans to spend a relatively large amount for minority media — about $5 million between now and Nov. 2 — on television, radio and print ads, mostly in presidential battlegrounds of Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Steve Schmidt, a Bush campaign spokesman, called the ads “divisive and baseless,” and said they are “produced from a position of weakness.”

****........It was Kerry's style that bothered people the most, suggesting that the senator may be saddled with a negative public image similar to the one that plagued Gore in 2000, when many voters saw the vice president as boring and stiff.

Those interviewed last week said Kerry came across as rich and affected, and seemed to say merely what he thought people wanted to hear.

Stopped in a parking lot in Herculaneum, Mo., a half-hour south of St. Louis, Tom Nations and his wife explained why they supported Clinton twice and would back his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, if she ever ran for president, but won't vote for Kerry.

"I don't want the nation put in the hands of Kerry," said Nations, 50, a manager for a car dent-removal company. Pressed for why, he paused before adding: "Kerry is just a speechmaking type. He just stands there and is like, 'Four score ... ,' you know? I don't think he's prepared for what the country is going through."

His wife, Karen, a hairdresser, agreed. "I just want to feel safe and protected," she said. "Kerry, it's like he's rehearsed in his speeches and guarded with what he says."

Several people said they would vote for the president as "the lesser of two evils."

"I like [Bush] less than I did then," said E. Keith Dean, 78, a Bush supporter in 2000, as he paid his lunch tab at Jim's Steak and Spaghetti House in Huntington, W.Va.

But the president's criticism of Kerry as an untrustworthy politician seems to have stuck with Dean, a retired architect: "I do think there's some validity to this, 'You can't trust what he says.' [Kerry] just changes from one time to another. I don't have any confidence in him."

In the wooded hills of Braxton County, W.Va., where small farms dot the landscape along the Elk River, many said they considered voting Democratic this time but lack faith in Kerry's ability to handle the country's problems. Gore defeated Bush by just 190 votes here..........****

Conservative 527 Organizes Despite Looming FEC Crackdown***"I think we can make a dent," Kellman said. "I think there [are] a lot of folks out there with money who want to hear the message, but as far as catching up with the Democrats, we'll have to wait and see."

Liberal groups such as America Coming Together and the MoveOn.org Voter Fund, both of which are partially funded by billionaire financier George Soros, dominate the current 527 playing field, their power having surged since the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, signed by President Bush, eliminated the soft-money raising and spending abilities of national political committees.

According to its mission statement, "MoveOn is a catalyst for a new kind of grassroots involvement, supporting busy but concerned citizens in finding their political voice.

"Our nationwide network of more than 2,000,000 online activists is one of the most effective and responsive outlets for democratic participation available today," the group's website claims.

The National Faith Based Initiative Coalition, with a name similar to one of President Bush's favorite federal programs, the Faith-Based and Community Initiative, will join other prominent conservative 527 groups like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and the Club for Growth in supporting Bush's views or criticizing those of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

The political organizations are known as 527s after the section of the Internal Revenue Service tax code that regulates them.

"If we're really going to have political empowerment, we need to go ahead and not blindly give our votes to a party that doesn't care anything about us and has all but abandoned the African-American community and just utilizes them when it comes to getting out the vote," said Kellman.

He said that times have changed, and African-Americans no longer need the government to constantly intervene on their behalf.

"The majority of African-Americans believe in economic opportunity and not handouts ... It's a new world, and with that comes new political affiliations," Kellman said. ***

“don’t keep getting played”

Nice to see the collapse of the feudal order as individuals break away from servitude to the Democrats.

Exactly. Unfortunately, too many African Americans get sucked into the web of lies woven by the left.

Fortunately, many African Americans are waking up and seeing the lefties for what they are - liars and deceivers.

The dems know blacks are less enthusiastic about Kerry than they were for Gore, and are likely to stay home or vote for Bush out of resentment.

The democrats are the last people who should address 'playin'. They play upon many black Americans' fears (esp those that live in the cities) of a return to institutionalized white racism of Jim Crow and segregation. The democrats know this isn't true, and they also know that FEAR is a very powerful and potent emotion. Since human beings have a tendency to avoid fearful situations and the unknown, they can play this card very safely until they meet up with black conservatives who expose their job saving tactics of holding the threat of jim crow segregation over their heads. When in fact, the democrats not conservatives are the ones practicing jim segregation because it saves their jobs and power.

Ask yourself if Blacks are going to be energized to even bother to vote for a man who windsurfs off the beach of his multi-million dollar Nantucket mansion.

Black turnout will be very low.

Too late!
The Dems have been playing them like a fiddle since the 60s.

They can't see the plantation for the goodies.
