Rather Says Will No Longer Address Charges of 'Professional Rumor Mill'
September 12, 2004, 21:39:50 EDT Dan Rather was quoted in the New Zealand Herald as saying that there was no use debating the authenticity of his documents which he claims are proof that George W. Bush committed any number of unethical acts while in the National Guard. "Until someone shows me definitive proof that they are not [authentic], I don't see any reason to carry on a conversation with the professional rumour mill."

Oh, no, no bias here: This writer claims the "hoax" was FROM the Bush supporters, and Rather was a victim." New talking points from the democrats? I'd put money that this is the direction they will take. It's still sinking in that the argument over authenticity is over, but it will finally register in the next day or two even with the most thick-skulled of them. Then they will need to assign blame.

I think the case is now up to the widow of the commander to take Dan and the CBS crowd into a Texas state court. I think Dan would be rather surpised how real life court works...and how much you can lose besides money.Unfortunately, if Rather and CBS continue to support this farce, that might be the only form of rectitude available. It would take years, though. After hearing Killian's son, though, I am convinced he would be tough enough to press the case.

Wow. I wasn't watching anything on See B.S. before all this started... I guess I will have to kick it up a notch and encourage everyone I know not to watch See B.S.

He's an even bigger idiot than I thought.
Dan, I'll make it simple for you:
If the documents in question are forgeries, then the very questions raised by them are WITHOUT MERIT.

it's not fair to the all the CBS REPORTERS who try to hold onto some semblance of credibility. If I was a reporter at CBS I would be severly PO'ed at Rather right now!Rather has breached just about every known tenent of journalism on this one, and his fellow employees know it.
I'll bet there a lots of PO'd CBS employees dreading the prospect of going to work this morning, and having to share the same office space with Rather.
Wonder how many practice resignations were written this weekend?

I believe the source of the TANG memos is Tom Harkin. He lied about his Viet Nam service and was caught. He knows enough military to have written the memos. He was way too fast and enthusiastic last Thursday morning with his news conference. He has put himself out there calling the President a liar and the Vice President a coward. He has the hatred.. and, he's quite insane.

A hoax by Bush supporters?
The DNC is gasping for air.

"hoax by Bush supporters..."
Those Kiwis are sometimes gullible and/or willing transmitters of leftist trash.
They supposedly have done a remarkable job turning their economy and government around with conservative principles from a fiscal standpoint, though I believe they're still peaceniks. Turning the press around is another matter.
To: litany_of_lies
In fact, the controversy is beside the point. Poll after poll has shown that voters are concerned about terrorism, war in Iraq and the economy, rather than events of 35 years ago. John Kerry's highlighting of his 1969 heroics in Vietnam has, if anything, backfired, provoking a highly effective campaign of TV ads by pro-Bush veterans, accusing him of lying over how he obtained some of his medals.
Since when is it beside the point that a major news engaged in fraud to effect the outcome of a presidential election?
CBS had their chance to set the record straight. The fact they stand by their story in the face of overwhelming evidence that it's a fake makes them an accessory (at least) to an attempt to influence the outcome of a federal election by reporting fake stories. That's the story here.

We are seeing the result of liberal elitism. How dare the common serfs question King Rather! How dare the other networks, journalists take it upon themselves to fact check his story. After all he is the great and wonderful Dan Rather who has made millions of $$$ from a corporation, telling about how corporations and the GOP are making millions of $$$ off of the common serfs.
Dan, for years you have tried to be the John,Pimp, and prostitute to the liberal left- I'd say that the common serfs caught you with your pants down. And those around you are no longer afraid that you will lop off their heads. Time to retire.
