Joining in the IBM Selectric Nostalgia Club:

I ALSO remember the IBM Selectric. What a great machine it was for typists! You could really go at speed on the keys, it was study and easy to maintain, the "balls" that would let you change typefaces, nice hard keystrokes that created so-fine clear carbons. And hitting that carriage return gave a RUSH of power! (LOL...I sound like classic car collector drooling over a fine vintage vehicle.)

It really was a beauty, compared to manual machines and the other electric models out then.

I'm pretty sure it was the Selectric II that had the eraser tape feature. I remember encountering it first in the late 70's (and was seriously impressed!)...but it might have been around before then.

*Sigh* Word Processing is so much more efficient, I know, but this wimpy little "clickty-click" just doesn't compare to the THUNDER of a Selectric under the fingers of a pro....:-)

Carol - if you're from Texas, did you know that the woman who invented White-out was from Texas? She was a legal secretary whose hobby was painting. She brought her white tempera paint and a paint brush to work to correct her errors. Soon all the other typists wanted to use her correcting fluid. She patented the stuff, made millions, and lived happily ever after. Her son became one of the Monkees.

Do you think someone should send Ida Rather Not Tell the Truth (Dan Rather) a gift certificate for Kool-Aid?

Of course the gift certificat must contain the disclaimer:

*Cyanide sold seperately.

Actually, I'm thinking of showing up outside the TODAY show tomorrow with a placard saying
THIS SIGN IS A FORGERY
and see if I get on!

Agreed but how do we prove it when these clowns have a bunch of obvious agenda driven clowns throwing themselves on their swords.

If it's shown that Democrats or the Kerry campaign are the source — as suggested by comments to the American Spectator by an unnamed Kerry staffer — CBS better say so.

If the documents prove to be forgeries, resignations from Rather and CBS News President Andrew Heyward would be in order — along with a sweeping review of ethical practices at a once-proud news organization.

THIS IS AMAZING...from Investors Business Daily!

And what is this about a person in the Kerry campaign talking to the American Spectator? Hmmmmmmmm.

CBS' bias made it vulnerable to a hoax that fit nicely with the network's left-leaning culture.

In a time when enemies seek to destroy us all, including CBS, such bias only enables political deception which is directly related to security breakdowns.

Newspapers (with the exception of the Old Grey Lady and the Boston Globe Retractor) and news magazines are going to town on this one! Some enterprising reporter might be thinking "Woodward and Bernstein" and really do some investigating. Wouldn't that just be a kick in the pants to the MSM of the electronic sort that has considered themselves the tops in news reporting and opinion making ever since Vietnam?

Rather won't have time to cover his tracks.
Jeff from Talon News is going to expose where he got the documents and the whole sordid trail tomorrow.

What makes them think any other leftist hack in "journalism" would be an improvement?

*Sigh*

An IBM Selectric!

Add me to the club; I've never been so shocked in my life when I got my first electronic typewriter and finished the first line, picked up my hands and the damn thing kept typing AFTER I was done!

Plus, you could kill somebody with that thing!

Dan Rather is following the lead of the man he worships most—William Jefferson Clinton. It was only a few months ago when Rather told Bill O'Reilly that Clinton was an honest man.

Like Clinton, Liar Dan will not change his story until some court decision determines he lied, at which time most of the outrage will be diminished and he then may humbly apologize and claim he caused no harm. It worked for Clinton—why not Rather?
**

Rather's response Fri P.M. is very similar to Clinton's finger-pointing denial. Clinton's ploy would have got him thru the Lewinsky mess as a he said/she said stalemate. Except WJBC never figured there would be something as irrefutable as DNA evidence to prove him a liar.

Rather is attempting the same ploy. It remains to be seen if there will be some DNA-like stain in this story to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that CBS & Rather are liars. But the story is still young. I am TOTALLY SPECULATING here, but as an example, maybe a DNC laptop will turn up with emails or Word files showing the earlier versions of the forged documents...

Excellent! It'd be nice to see the WSJ come out with a story. Nothing like agitating the stockholders to get Sumner Redstone's attention. I wonder how Rather is enjoying his weekend? I imagine he'd rather be death row a few hours before the big show.

I'm rereading Peggy Noonan's old book What I Saw at the Revolution and got to the part where she starting working at CBS. Those old legends were in their twilight years when she got there and they are all probably turning in their graves.
