"RATHER BIASED?"--Investors Bus. Daily editorial
Investors Business Daily ^ | Mon. 9/13/04 | Editorial

Posted on 09/12/2004 7:08:12 AM PDT by Timeout

I'm just going to post the last 2 paragraphs. Read the whole thing:

If it's shown that Democrats or the Kerry campaign are the source — as suggested by comments to the American Spectator by an unnamed Kerry staffer — CBS better say so.

If the documents prove to be forgeries, resignations from Rather and CBS News President Andrew Heyward would be in order — along with a sweeping review of ethical practices at a once-proud news organization.

These guys have not been paying attention. CBS's ethics are long gone. This is just one more in a series of major ethical lapses.

Bump. Keep pressure on.

Seeing Rath in this position has made this a stellar month. Not only am I old enough to remember the IBM Selectric, but am old enough to remember the rage and frustration of the control the three-way Network had over the politicl process.

What Rathe did is every bit as bad as what he sniffily and self-righteously accused Nixon of doing.

Team Bush needs to insist that CBS not be allowed to "moderate" the AZ debate. Give it to Brit Hume.

nice post -IBD is a good source for the free market.

next question - What did CBS know and when did they know it. Memogate is beginning to look like a cover-up!!

This whole controversey needs to be dubbed "Typogate".

CBS needs to be slimed for creating news "rather" than reporting.

Team Bush is doing fine by letting others do the work. They are capable of handling a hostile media. Contrast that with Kerry, who can't handle a friendly media!

Better yet, the FCC should look at CBS's suitability to hold a broadcasting license. There are strict rules that broadcasters must follow, in terms of NOT TRANSMITTING MISLEADING OR KNOWN FALSE INFORMATION ..... I am really suprised that we have not heard any cries about this major issue. Powell's son had better start doing his job, as head of the FCC. Breaking FCC rules and regulations is a federal crime.

Viacom should be forced to keep Dan Rather and make him their most visable and important person on the team. He should be required to put his name on every newscast CBS has for 5 years and they should pay him 50 million dollars a year in salary plus overtime. That would be a suitable punishment for CBS. Putting him out to pasture would let CBS off the hook too easily. CBS needs to pay for having ever hired that lefty liar in the first place, They have to take responsibility.

I second that, mamzelle. Somewhere Nixon is having a nice posthumous chuckle. It took 30 years, but Rather finally stepped in it big time. The Lord works in mysterious ways. I can hardly remember a story I have enjoyed as much as this one. Whether Rather is able to hold on or not, he has been exposed, and even CBS knows it.

Have you noticed that posters on Free Republic and other conservative sites are held to higher standards than the major media? That when we make mistakes, we 'fess up to them asap? That we are called on our mistakes and chastised for not researching or confirming our sources adequately?

Sometimes, I think our self-imposed criticism or ourselves and others' faux pas is a tad harsh at times, but it is better than no criticism. CBS should take lessons from Internet forums.

Yeah, you're a probably right. I am sick of the deference that is given to so-called journalists like Rather, though. I am surprised that some of the legacy media is actually going after the story of the forged memos.

Wow. Once the "engine that makes this country go" is convinced (i.e., Viacom and advertisers' investors), it's over for Rather.
