These guys have not been paying attention. CBS's ethics are long gone. This is just one more in a series of major ethical lapses.
Seeing Rath in this position has made this a stellar month. Not only am I old enough to remember the IBM Selectric, but am old enough to remember the rage and frustration of the control the three-way Network had over the politicl process.
What Rathe did is every bit as bad as what he sniffily and self-righteously accused Nixon of doing.

CBS needs to be slimed for creating news "rather" than reporting.
Better yet, the FCC should look at CBS's suitability to hold a broadcasting license. There are strict rules that broadcasters must follow, in terms of NOT TRANSMITTING MISLEADING OR KNOWN FALSE INFORMATION ..... I am really suprised that we have not heard any cries about this major issue. Powell's son had better start doing his job, as head of the FCC. Breaking FCC rules and regulations is a federal crime.
CBS bias has been there for years... The problem this time is they got caught big time..keep the pressure up on sponsors.
Have you noticed that posters on Free Republic and other conservative sites are held to higher standards than the major media? That when we make mistakes, we 'fess up to them asap? That we are called on our mistakes and chastised for not researching or confirming our sources adequately?
Sometimes, I think our self-imposed criticism or ourselves and others' faux pas is a tad harsh at times, but it is better than no criticism. CBS should take lessons from Internet forums.
Wow. Once the "engine that makes this country go" is convinced (i.e., Viacom and advertisers' investors), it's over for Rather.
If the documents prove to be forgeries, resignations from Rather and CBS News President Andrew Heyward would be in order — along with a sweeping review of ethical practices at a once-proud news organization.In theory, this would be true if CBS thought of its reputation as something besides a resource to be expended in pursuing its agenda. When the agenda is the thing and almost the ONLY thing, you spend all your cash, go into debt, and write bad checks to pursue it.
For its part, CBS says it won't look further into the memo's authenticity. "Contrary to some rumors, no internal investigation is under way at CBS News, nor is one planned. We have complete confidence in our reporting and will continue to pursue the story."
I think C-BS is afraid to look any deeper into their self-inflicted gaff because they know what they will find.

Frankly, it is so good to see that the calculated conniving evil CBS and Dan Rather democrat party boot suckers would do to our honorable President in their wicked hopes of toppling him in November has exposed the brilliant light of truth on the foul CBS cockroach bastards that dare to call themselves unbiased, balanced and fair newscasters.
By the way, I knew Lt. Col. Jerry Killian and his wife Marge. (I remember when he died in 1984.) I lived in Houston for 27 years, close to Ellington AFB. I knew many airmen who flew with the Air National Guard there. Everyone I knew who flew with George W. Bush loved him. In fact, in 1995 or 1996, I attended a ceremony which honored then Texas Gov. George W. Bush and dedicated a replica of the airplane that Bush flew.
