Due to continued publicity spurred by the controversy over the suspect CBS memos, the conservative website Freerepublic.com garnered the largest number of new user signups (or accounts) for a Friday on September 10, 2004 since the start of the Iraq war.
A total of 277 new users signed up yesterday. That compares to 289 who signed up on Friday, March 21, 2003, the week that the Iraq was started. That day holds the record for the largest number of Friday signups ever.
It was on a Freerepublic.com message board that a user first noticed the discrepant features in the CBS memos.
Further investigation by other online blogs and media outlets has shown the memos to be likely forgeries.

What made that pic so funny is that the cubbyhold she's in is right above the computer, and I was fighting off a troll at the time.
Priceless!

So...does anyone know the total FReepers offhand? At one point we were around 100k, maybe even 120K but that was a while ago...It seems like we stopped growing as fast after that.
I was kinda hoping we'd be in the millions by now...hehehehe.

I'm looking for a dad chaperone that I met on my daughters class overnight field trip. He and I spent most of the bus ride to the camp talking about technology, which we both use at work, and find interesting, and most of the field trip home trying to determine if we held the same political views. We finially reached the conclusion that neither of us would vote for J eFin K at gunpoint.
Then I told him about freerepublic.com and he was excited to see what we are all about. He said he would check it out Friday when we got back. Larry from Cincinnati, hope you were one of those who joined yesterday and if so, Welcome!!

Welcome to the ones who aren't disrupters.
FreeRepublic is the greatest resource on Earth and you don't need any other medium to get the news, and the truth. The knowledge base here is unbelievable!
This site alone makes the MSM obsolete. I echo the sentiment that the new people join in the FReepathons!
Long live FreeRepublic, and thanks to Jim Robinson for thinking it up and making it happen!
...and by the way, long live the USA! You are a beacon of freedom and truth to the world.
Cheers,
Jim

Exactly! It's populism at its best.
Also, as we've seen, great journalism.
And the knowledge base is second to none!

something like littlegreenfootballs.com credited FR before Powerline got the light, and in addition, some of the poster there DID do some very good research, including reproducing one of hte memos on MS Word. They were in the vanguard of both crediting FR and getting their own share of credit. This Power... site was an also ran, from what I saw.

No quarrel from me, mate, none at all. Due credit to Powerline as deserved.
My beef was, and is, with Sullivan for not researching AT ALL.

Yeah. I heard it mentioned on that media show on FOX...what is it, NEWSWATCH. One of the Libs was pushing that line. With a transcript of the show you can uncover this character and maybe why some elements of the media want to cite him instead of FR.
