JACKSONVILLE A South Florida businessman says he's going to try to reduce the strength of Hurricane Ivan by flying a Boeing 747 into the edge of the hurricane and dumping thousands of pounds of an absorbent material into the storm.
Peter Cordani of Jupiter plans to try to knock the storm down by one or two categories by dropping tons of powder that absorbs 3-thousand to 4-thousand times its weight.
Cordani is chief operating officer of Dyn-O-Mat, a company that sells environmental absorbent products such as mats for mechanics. He believes his product, SK1000, would cause a shearing action and a 15 degree cooling of the storm.
Cordani has been working on his plan for five years. He has assembled a team of experts, including two former astronauts, moonwalker Edgar Mitchell and Scott Mac Leod, who tested the lunar module.
Cordani is in contact talks to lease a 747 tanker from Evergreen Aviation in McMinnville, Oregon.
CRAZY NUT PING.................
If it doesn't work, it he liable for the damage caused?
ping
... or be another environmental problem. What is that stuff made of?
I heard this powder consisted of shreaded documents from "White Water" and hoaxed, shreaded documents from FontGate.
I think it's going to be like tossing thousands of sponges into Ivan.
I hadn't thought of that. Shredded documents can be very absorbent.
How could you prove it was because of his actions?
What the ????
Ok I have officialy heard it all.
I have always thought of dropping several huge concussion bombs that would detonate at different heights at the same time into the eye of a hurricane like this when it's at sea, not near any land to try and break it up... maybe I am being silly...
Did I hear correctly that there may be gas rationing in Florida?
That is actually what I was thinking. I posted some info about previous attempts to do this on one of the hurricane threads. I'll see if I can come up with it.
What he is attempting, does make sense.
Will he file an environmental impact statement? What damage to the Caribbean habitiat will be done by several tons of chemicals floating down from the sky into the ocean and on islands?
Evergreen Avation: "You want to do WHAT with our plane?"
Great, now, not only will South Florida be littered with uprooted palm trees and remnants of broken trailer homes, they'll have billions of foam packing peanuts coating the countryside...
Fresh step kitty litter
Ya never know! Maybe he'll be successful, maybe he'll be floating in the Carribean Sea. We'll see.
< Liberal environmentalist panic attack > He's going to dry up the ocean and the planet will look like Mars < /Liberal environmentalist panic attack >
I've got a better idea... let's get everyone down here in Florida to stand on the beach and blow real hard .. maybe that will push it in another direction.
