What if terrorists took over your government?
What if they confiscated your private property, stole your income, and invited foreign forces to enter your country?
What if they instituted a revolutionary regime with its roots in a repressive and brutal foreign order, and in so doing mandated economic and social policies that were tearing the most sacred institutions of your nation apart?
And, worst of all, what if these terrorists had been legally elected?
As a man, as a soldier, as a patriot what would you do?
Thirty-one years ago, one man faced these choices. One man, one soldier, was forced to choose between his loyalty to his homeland and to democracy itself.
The year was 1973. The date was 9/11. The nation was the Republic of Chile. And the man was General Augustin Pinochet.
The choices he made stunned the world
and saved his country.
The link is likely to be down periodically due to overload during the anniversary period. Please keep trying it the story of Gen. Pinochet is too important to go untold.
Once again, the lefty nutcases try to make the Patriot Act something it is not..
... I do like the subitle references to things that are being accused in the P.A.
His saved his country from certain disaster - Chile would be where Cuba is now and where Venezuela is heading if he had not taken action.
If you say so. I thought only aging Commie boomers worried about Chile anymore.
There is a difference between democracy and liberty. Liberty is an end, democracy is a means to that end.
But if democracy is hijacked, and used to destroy liberty, then you discover who Pinochet was. The Venezuelans are finding out who he was right now; they should pray that a Pinochet will emerge from the ranks.
I agree. Gen. Pinochet was and is a hero of World War III, the war against communism. He held the line in South America. Did he do some terrible things in the process? Yes, he did but that's war. War is hell, and there is no way to fight it with clean hands.
Gen. Pinochet did not flinch from his duty, no matter how ugly that duty was. He did what he had to do to save his country. The world made him a villain for his trouble.
I deeply admire Pinochet. On this third anniversary of our own 9/11, we should pause a moment to remember his heroism. As we begin World War IV, let us pray for the souls of those killed in World War III, and for the victims and heroes yet to come.
Obviously, I agree.
Please note that a typo exists in my original post. The General's Christian name is Augusto, not Augustin. My apologies for the error.
I'm not worried about Chile. I'm asking folks to remember the heroic actions of General Pinochet and his forces as they took back their country from communism thirty-one years ago tomorrow. It's an event worth remembering.
But then again, I can't seem to find any resource that paints Operation Condor from a neutral perspective instead of a "Pinochet is Hitler" mindset.
That happens a lot. They do the same thing with the AUC in Colombia, ignoring Marxist terrorism. It's annoying, but at least it's usually easy to spot lefty propaganda.
Bump for the night shift.
I would proffer that while it may be fought with clean hands, it will not be won that way.
Touché.
I wish to God I could come up with a scenario for victory that doesn't involve roasting civilian noncombatants by the thousands a la 1945 Tokyo or Dresden, but I cannot. Other than a sudden mass conversion of the world's Muslim population to Christianity, the only conclusion I can imagine to this war is either a new Crusade or nuclear warfare. Either way, a lot of men, women and kids that had nothing to do with this madness will end up dying.
Of course we could always simply give up. I sometimes wonder if perhaps that may be the course God intends for us. Maybe Western Civilization has had its day. Maybe this is the price of our hedonism, our abortions, of the cultural non serviam that began when we as Western, rational men decided to make ourselves the measure of all things.
Such issues are too big for me to decide. All we can do is try to follow God's will and the natural law that says defend yourself. I hope that God will forgive us if we blindly go down the wrong path.
