THE CBS PAPERS (more damming evidence!)

THE CBS PAPERS [Jed Babbin]

I spoke to Col. Bill Campenni (USAF ret) earlier this morning. As I've written before, Campenni was a member of the President's squadron and flew with him often. Campenni told me that there are a whole slew of reasons -- beyond those being debated now -- to question the authenticity of the CBS papers:

1. The 4 May 1972 order and the 1 August 1972 memo both have a letterhead for the wrong organization. Correspondence and orders in those days would be issued in the name of the parent organization -- the 147th Fighter Interceptor Group -- rather than the squadron. The letterhead is typed. They used printed ANG letterhead;

2. Orders were issued on the standard USAF orders form. (I still have a stack of my old ones. There's not a "memo" among them). Campenni remembers that orders weren't issued as "memos" like the 4 May 72 document;

3. The Killian "CYA" memo of August 1973 refers to pressure by Gen. Standt. The problem with this is that Standt retired in 1972. Why would anyone be worried about pressure from him?

4. Jerry Killian, according to Campenni, never went near a typewriter. In the Air Force, in those days, notes -- if anyone kept them at all -- were handwritten. That raises questions about both the 19 May 72 and the 18 August 73 memos. And, lest we forget, bureaucrats -- not fighter jocks -- write "cya" memos.

5. Orders -- like the purported 4 May 72 order to take the flight physical - wouldn't normally have been signed by Killian. They would be signed by a senior sergeant "by order of" Killian.

If, as it appears, someone faked these papers they did a bad job of it. I can tell you that in the early to mid-1970's when I was on active duty, the active service didn't have anything fancier than the earliest models of the IBM Selectric typewriter, and many offices didn't even have those. The reserves and national guard had our cast-offs, so it's terribly unlikely they could have produced anything as fancy as these papers. (Is it just my imagination, or is Dan Rather's nose growing longer every day?)

You know that the big lie about this will be that it was the Bush people who faked the documents. Duh. Unfortunately there will be great numbers of people who will believe that.

Could the forgeries be motivated by money as well as Bush-hatred?

cui bono.

Think about it. Who benefits from the allegations against Bush going down in flames? The net effect of the discovery that these documents are likely forgeries is to discredit ANY personal attack against Bush for the remainder of the election. Bush is innoculated against any more attacks of this nature. And who benefits from that? Somone who wants to run against a non-incumbent in 2008.

Keep in mind that the Clinton campaign advisors (Carville and Begala) have just "joined" the Kerry campaign, at the behest of Bubba from his hospital bed. Bubba, before he was hospitalized with chronic Big-Mac-itis, was advising Kerry he needed to "hit back hard" whenever he was attacked, and after enduring a month of attrition in the polls at the hands of the Swift Boat Vets, Kerry was more than ready to clobber Bush with whatever was handy.

And lo and behold, the phony ANG documents suddenly appear and are "provided" to Dan Rather, who like the salivating brainless moron that he is, dutifully broadcast the obviously suspect material in ominous, solemn tones.

So "who benefits"? Hillary, who will now rest easy knowing that Kerry's campaign is in tatters thanks in part to her husband's, and her husband's cronies', "advice," while Bush is innoculated against further personal attacks for the duration of the election, virtually assuring a Democrat defeat in November, thus paving the only path she has to run for the presidency with minimal interference by 2008.

Just as with the Rose Law firm billing records, these documents have Hillary's virtual fingerprints all over them.

Thomas Lipscomb's Chicago Sun-Times report recounts the role of the blogosphere in raising these issues: "Critical memos on Bush Guard service faked?" And distinguishing itself for the worst story of the day on the subject is -- who else? -- the AP, with a story carried by the Boston Globe: "Questions raised about Bush Guard service."

"Matt Drudge, who crashed our server (says powerline) earlier today by linking to our first post on the 60 Minutes hoax, is now headlining: "CBSNEWS LAUNCHES INTERNAL INVESTIGATION AFTER SUSPICIOUS BUSH DOCS AIRED." "http://www.powerlineblog.com/

I think it was this guy Robert Strong.

I think you are correct. A quick google shows two professor Strongs, one at UofMaine, the other at Washington and Lee university. The UofMaine professors bio shows he was Army, but the other professor Strong.........

W&L University News Home : Colonnade Features Home

Politics Professor Robert Strong and Chemistry Professor Frank Settle beam at their students' fine showing, then quickly drive the discussion toward the complexities of the radiological, biological and chemical weapons that threaten the world as never before.

Welcome to "Avoiding Armageddon: The Art and Science of Non-Proliferation," a new, fast-paced interdisciplinary course at Washington and Lee University.

Grampa Dave, that was my theory too. Remember Hillary said something unexpected would change the course of the election. My guess? This was just the first data dump; they had planned to make more of them. Unfortunately for them, now no one will ever believe anything from CBS or the DNC is real!

I know it's not fundraiser time, but I think it might be time to mention that had it not been for Free Republic, the truth of this might not have come out. I hope people will contribute to Free Republic, to keep it going, to keep the truth flowing.

I heard George Steph. say that (paraphrasing) the "Kerry camp" is possibly thinking that the WH may have altered them!

What a moronic statement! How could the WH alter documents they got from CBS, when anyone can go to the CBS News web site and see the PDFs of the documents and verify that there is no difference with what the WH handed out? The Kerry camp is grasping at straws - to put it mildly. They have lost all capacity to reason as they panic over how to respond to this farce.

As an aside, if you watch the video about the documents on the CBS News web site, you can also see that the documents they show in the video are an exact match to the PDF files.

I heard Greg Kelly on Fox News awhile ago say that the physical exam date given doesn't jive with military standards. He said that President Bush was accused of refusing to take a physical in May. However, military physicals fall on the persons birthdate. It should have been requested in July.

It is not quite/yet fund raising time or Freepathon time.

However, everyone who thinks this is a great story because of Free Republic should become a monthly donor to support more truth in this election and after the election.

To those not monthly donors to Free Republic, please become a monthly donor. Make Free Republic a stronger and more powerful truth serum to use against the lies of the left. Become a monthly Donor.

If they were more damaging, then they would certainly be scrutinized. CBS/Kerry-Edwards'04 underestimated the reaction of the VRWC.

Vietnam service is the only thing that Kerry has to run on. He has to be able to claim moral superiority over Bush on this issue, or he has no chance.

The word "interdisciplinary" tells you all you need to know. It is an academic code word for "didactic and left-wing".
