I think it was this guy Robert Strong.

I think you are correct. A quick google shows two professor Strongs, one at UofMaine, the other at Washington and Lee university. The UofMaine professors bio shows he was Army, but the other professor Strong.........

The word "interdisciplinary" tells you all you need to know. It is an academic code word for "didactic and left-wing".
