Bill Richardson just backed out of Fox segment
Fox News Channel ^ | 9/10/2004 | me

Rick Perry was on Fox to talk about the forged memos possibility, and Governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson was scheduled to be the "other side" of the argument. Richardson backed out by making himself "unavailable at the last minute". Thoughts? Comments? Laughter?

When was the formation date of "Texas for part of the Truth" ? Does that match up with six weeks ago?

I think this forged document business should be a lesson to all of us. When we go to forge Kerry's papers, we must make sure not to use word.

Normally I would be inclined to agree with you on the overuse of "-gate". In this case, with Rather's background w/Nixon and the Water-gate scandal, I think it's more than appropriate.

He had to go to Area 51 to see if he could find an old typewriter.

Actually, he's on the pot and out of paper!

Good move by Richardson...this is a no win for him.

"I missed Harkin w/John Scott. What did Harkin say?"

Scott asks about possibly forged documents as basis for Harkins accusations yesterday.

Harkin repeats accusations and says they already knew this stuff and the documents only confirm it.

Scott asks, with all due respect, how could fake documents confirm anything?

Harkin says he doesn't know they are fake.

Bill Richardson has shown himself to be a moderate democrat here in New Mexico. Also, it is obvious, he has aspirations of higher office, and that NM is a mere stepping stone to return to Washington.

Richardson has baggage enough after shilling around for Monica Lewinsky at the behest of the honorable Bill Clinton.

Methinks he does not want to make that mistake again.

Maybe Richardson had to take a call from the North Koreans begging him to ask the DNC to NOT cash their last contribution check

He knows he has no argument, and I wonder if he knows something else about them (that Kerry camp or DNC authored or provided the memos) and he isn't going down with them. On the whole, I don't think Richardson is a bad guy), and thus I wonder if he didn't want to defend what may be unethical. Remember how stupid the Clinton defenders (who claimed Bill wasn't involved with Lewinsky) looked when Bill finally admitted she gave him orals?

The "Los Alamos Loser"...
I'll never understand how the good folks of NM could have ever elected that clown to be governor of their fine state!

how embarrassing!

It must be a crime to impersonate a military officer and make fake orders like this, creating false public documents. Is law enforcement/DOJ looking into this? Article 134 of the code of military justice covers this, but I don't think that would apply to non-military people.

Good info. I agree. I've thought too that he probably wanted to get into the WH. He seems to tread carefully, but not in the way that Kerry has for 20 year by avoiding all issues and responsibility. I remember he talked with North Korea early in this administration. Beyond a Zell Miller, he's probably as honest a dem as we will ever see in national politics. Do you know how old he is?
