Rounding up all illegals 'not realistic'
The Washington Times ^ | September 10, 2004 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 09/10/2004 5:00:30 AM PDT by MikeJ75

The nation's border czar yesterday said it is "not realistic" to think that law-enforcement authorities can arrest or deport the millions of illegal aliens now in the United States and does not think the American public has the "will ... to uproot" those aliens.

>>It's scary that someone so wimpy and out of touch as Asa Hutchinson is Homeland Security Undersecretary<<

He gets his orders straight from Tom Ridge who gets his orders straight from the WHITE HOUSE.

Until republicans admit what in the hell is going on there will be no changes just useless dribble in the newpapers. The President is the one who does NOT want law enforcement. No Kerry won't want it either.

I can't believe this stuff. He talks like a fairyland liberal where if it ain't perfect we can't do anything; Better is the enemy of good enough.

Nobody said you need to solve the entire problem in one step.

Just START doing SOMETHING.....ANYTHING!

P.S. Reading this report and not exploding with explitives is harder than when listening to Serpent Head - sheeeeeeesh.

Mr. Hutchinson said President Bush's proposal for a temporary guest-worker program, outlined in January, was an attempt by the administration to address immigration enforcement and to "bring 8 million aliens out of the shadow and give them legal status."

Legal Status = Amnesty.

Asa Hutchinson needs to find a new job. One more suited to his particular sensitivities. Like managing the HR department in an insurance company. He is a disaster for US border security, and a failure as a public servant who DOES NOT serve the public. His idea of "immigration enforcement" is to not enforce.

Just my opinion of course....Stay safe Ya'll

So much for the oath these losers take.

I have the will, and almost everyone I know has the will.

The illegal employers need their asses handed to them by the government.

Close the borders and terminate all invaders.

THEN talk about all the illegals HERE.

I used the "contact us" part of the DHS website to let them know my thoughts on Asa Hutchinson...

-Traitor to the US Constitution
-Pantywaist
-Failed Drug Czar by using supply-side methods proven ineffective in 1923
-Failed DHS Undersecretary by not even pretending to care about securing our borders
-Did I mention traitor to the Constitution?

I'll celebrate the day that Asa Hutchinson goes to Federal Prison!

I am far more concerned about Arab/Muslim sleeper cells in US right now than Mexican Immigration. Our first priority is National Security (yes the border is part of that) but the barn door has been open too long, they are already here...but WHERE.

How many people see them everyday and don't think anything of it??? Convenience stores, fast food, cheap labor, renting but not working, buying items a few at a time that would be suspicious if bought more than ten...(fertilizer, ammonia nitrate, etc, etc, etc.

Does anyone on FreeRepublic work for Homeland Security, FBI or wherever you would notify them about middle eastern men/women who may be suspicious, or working in area of schools, feed/seed stores, water departments etc????

I know what you mean. Someone should tell Asa that we cannot catch all killers and child molesters either. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't go after as many as we can. Asa is a few marbles short.

We have to start doing something. One thing we can do is campaign for honest politicians, attempt recall of others.

Also we can go after enablers in any legal way we can. Bureaucrats hate being hassled, their pictures posted on the Internet, their dumb decisions ridiculed, their personal life exposed.

Your step #1 should apply to the Office of the President of the United States. If that were the case, GWB would have to leave office on Monday morning.

Asa is doing exactly what his boss (GWB) is telling him to do. Not one thing more, not one thing less.

The buck stops WHERE?

"The "Papers please!" screams and howls of outrage will be thick and furious here if such a policy is ever implemented."

The point I'm making is that it's been "papers please" for citizens for years. Just try getting a legitimate job, a bank account, utility service or even a hotel room in many cases, without providing "papers." It seems the only ones exempt from such personal invasions of privacy are illegals.

It's too bad the WashTimes didn't call him on his misleading arguments.

1. Few people are calling for a round-up of illegal aliens. That's a deliberate strawman argument. As others have already said, fine the employers and many of those illegal immigrants will self-deport.

2. "We have to be able to assimilate or integrate immigrants into our society where they can become Americans." Wow. Yeah, let's assimilate legal immigrants. But, let's not try to integrate or assimilate illegal immigrants. The WashTimes should have called him on that: was he speaking about both groups?

Is there any difference between his statements and those you'd get from a Carter or Clinton appointee?

"Those of us who dislike illegal immigration intensely need to accept this fact."
No. When the price of farming goes up, some smart engineer/inventor will produce machinery/equipment to bring the price back down. There is simply no reason to do so right now. why buy a new machine when you can get Mexicans for $20/day?

"GOP wants these voters and won't offend them"
What does it say about politicians who place votes above the law? Is that someone you feel comfortable voting for? I don't. Neither the Demonrats who sellout for welfare recipients nor the GOP who sellout for corporate profits look very appealing to me right now.

"Let's put it to a national vote"
That sounds like Democracy where mob rules. I'd prefer to work within the confines of our Republic, and elect Congress people who do what's best for us, not what's best for themselves.

"a potential illegal has to show evidence"
There are illegals here of every race, ethnicity, religion, and country of origin. Try something remotely reasonable. I am not willing to have every single Mexican stopped and searched for "papers". This is the "ends justify the means" approach, which is repulsive to me.
