Lieutenant Govenor in Texas is actually as powerful a position as Govenor because he is head of the Senate and helps set the agenda.
I believe Ben Barnes was Lt. Gov in 1971 when the Sharpstown Bank scandal broke in Texas. The Dems controlled all statewide offices at the time. Frank Sharp owned a bank and a large insurance corporation. He loaned some money to the Tx Speaker of the House, Att General and others from his bank and they invested the loaned money in his Insurance Company. The elected officials in turn passed laws which favored insurance companies which caused the value of the Companies stock to go up. Then they reaped the profits and repaid the loans.
The House Speaker and Att General were convicted of crimes and thrown out of office. Barnes career was finished over this also either through some connection or lying to officials over it.
See Sharpstown Bank Scandal for more info.
>>>>> That's Democrat for "lied through my friggin teeth".
Careful. Bartlett is no Dem. He is the White House communications director.
Yes Dan, I vetted those memos and I conclusively conclude that they are in fact from the 1970's.
Killian's widow needs to sue these scum for billions.
Yes.
Wouldn't CBS be compelled to divulge the source of the "memos" as a result?
Fascinating question. If the plaintiff were GWB, the standard for defamation would be sort of flagrant disregard for the truth which almost can't be met. But if she sues....neither she nor her husband are public figures....so the standard would be much lower. But I'm not sure that she has damages...which leads to the question of what would her cause of action be? That said, I'm sure she can get a lawyer somewhere to file something....
I think they should have gotten a 2nd opinion :-)
Dear Sir/Madam,
CBS NEWS and its' "news magazines" 60 Minutes and 60 Minutes II, and especially Dan Rather, have been totally irresponsible and unprofessional in presenting and dealing with the fraudulent memos regarding President George W. Bush and his honorable service in the Air National Guard. This poor excuse for journalism is a blatant attempt to smear the President of the United States and unfairly influence the upcoming presidential election and usurp our democratic process.
Your product, copy & paste product name here, was one of the advertisers (sponsors) of this program. Sponsoring this trash disguised as journalism tarnishes your Brand name.
Until all the above at CBS News are held accountable, I am boycotting ALL your products and services, and I will be asking all my friends, family and associates to also boycott your company and its' products and services as well.
Sincerely,
I M Theconsumer (your name)

hahahaha!
So CBS admits the documents are fake but keeps repeating the lies contained in them.
Thanks for the info!
Check the headline on this news site and copy the Great Photo of "W". Email it to your friends.
Perhaps John Edwards could channel her late husband. He'll be looking for work soon.
If they are ready to leave, I will gladly help them pack. To the Bush hating 'Rats at DU: Please leave your citizenship and passports at the border, you will not be needing them.
I have emailed CBS advertisers as well as CBS executives. I have freaking had it with their blatant and continued bias! I like the CSI shows on CBS. Last night, I deleted them from my TIVO season pass. I'm not going back until the record is corrected and Dan Rather retires!

LOL! Howdy GR!
CBS: WHERE DID YOU GET THESE DOCUMENTS? THE PUBLIC DESERVES TO KNOW.
I guess the forger handed out talking-points, too! ;)
(The memos do not accomplish their purported end, in any case).
Thanks for the info.

1972 Email Casts Doubt on Bush Guard Service
(2004-09-09) -- CBS reporter Dan Rather today released the text of a recently discovered email from then-Lt. George W. Bush's Air National Guard commanding officer which casts more doubt upon the military service of the man who would become the 43rd President of the United States.
The revelation of the email comes just hours after questions were raised about the authenticity of typewritten memos from the same officer, shown yesterday by Mr. Rather on 60 Minutes.
According to the previously unseen email message sent in May 1972 by squadron commander Jerry Killian, Lt. Bush phoned Col. Killian because "his internet connection was on the fritz and he couldn't IM me."
Lt. Bush apparently wanted to talk about "how he can get out of coming to drill from now through November."
According to Col. Killian's email, the young Bush wanted to go to Alabama to work as webmaster for a Republican candidate's website.
Mr. Rather said the authenticity of the 32-year-old email has been confirmed by several Nigerian officials who specialize in electronic funds transfer by email.
