The Thread that broke the Camels Back:Post 47, and the Freepers who busted C.B.S.

Credit where it is due,Howlin's thread,Buckheads post.

Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.

In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.

The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.

I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.

This should be pursued aggressively.

That thread on FR redefined the impact of a political drive-by in less than 20 hours and may change certain aspects of culture and politics forever.

Considering a lot of what was said on this and other threads are being repeated elsewhere--which hasn't happened before.

Years from now, aged Freepers will bore their grandchildren with tales of Post #47, and those twin champions of truth, Howlin and Buckhead.

Heck, I'm going to name my firstborn Post #47.

This is just so fun. My beloved husband (1John) and I (aka Milagro) started with FR in the very early days before BJ's impeachment and have ridden the political rollercoaster with so many of you. I will NEVER forget election night 2000--and the agonizing months weeks thereafter. Without FreeRepublic I don't think we could have survived!

My beloved John died shortly after 9-11, but I know he would be SO proud of you guys (and gals) today. So, on his behalf and mine, a hearty GOD BLESS!

You've grooved into changing the way the MSM responds to challlenges. CBS will never be able to put forth a story, and be accepted at face value.

I'm about to get all first-amendment syrupy-sticky, so I'll say good-night, and urge you to stay dry.

"FR has lived up to its mission statement the last few days."

Don't be too sure of yourself yet. I was just over in DUmmyland and one of their posters has solved the font puzzle:

amandabeech (425 posts)
...I wonder whether in fact the docs are paraphrases of what Col. Killian told Gen. Hodges and others, or are paraphrases of memos and orders that Killian actually wrote, but were scrubbed from records when Bush was Gov. of Texas... Or perhaps Killian had a "day job" where the IBM Executive Typewriter was used and these memos were typed by a secretary there.

LOL! They really are sh!tting a brick over there!

I still believe all the research you, me, and a bunch of other ladies and some men did led to the moving trucks backing up to the Chappaqua mansion to collect White House items taken by her heinous and der slickmeister.

I wonder what Kaki is decorating these days?

Bet you there are a couple of Chihuly bowls at the grand opening of the clinton liebrary!

You are the best!
