I am just loggining in. I understand that Rather used the documents as part of his Guard story. But why are he and CBS the culprit? Didn't the AP get the released documents originally? Where do they come in? I am confused. Please explain.

CBS had the documents for 6 weeks or so they claim, Sasso just joined. This stuff has a Texas connection to DNC to CBS connection. I would not be suprised at all if Barnes had something to do with this, or this Texans for Truth org or both.

My theory is that someone in Texas, possibly Barnes, did some poking around, probably interviewed people who had surrounded Killian in the early '70s, and tried to "glean" or build some "model" of Killian's attitude and feelings about the whole Bush Air National Guard participation. After doing this, they felt like they had something that could damage Bush, if they only had some documented form of this "model" they had developed. But no such documents existed.... NO PROBLEM. Just bring in Microsoft Word 2004 and a Paint program and a Xerox copier, and presto! Just the documents they wanted. Then, just a little call to CBS or to the DNC, who would love to exploit such a document, and the rest is history.
